Even though The Cavern was not my cup of tea it doesn't mean that it's a terrible place. My wife and kids loved the place and activities offered for kids and adults. In my opinion, the place was a bit too rustic, even though they busy upgrading at the moment. The bedrooms need TVs urgently for those early nights of...

Dear Duncan Thank you for taking time to review The Cavern and we do appreciate your constructive criticism. If there is one thing you learn from working in hospitality it is that you cannot be everyone's cup of tea. It's super that your wife and children enjoyed the activities but we do understand that we are sometimes not quite swish...

We spent this weekend at The Cavern in the Northern Drakensburg specially to do the Spionkop Battlefields with Ken Gillings. It was our first visit and we were blown away. What an absolute gem. Family run resort with plenty to offer all types of holidaymakers. The Spa was outstanding.

We were looking for an ideal place for a family get together for a smallish group ranging in ages from 26 months to 63 years and decided on the Cavern as the Berg was an attraction for our son and wife who now live in England and wanted to see the mountains! We were not disappointed with our choice. The...

The Drakensberg is spectacular, if you like mountains and active holidays I doubt there are better places on earth. The Cavern is in a word Fantastic, I have been here often, from my childhood till now. Stunning resort with great food, entertainment and scenery. Staff are extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. We felt very welcome and will definitely return. Just two minor pointers: - Some of the walks require the direction boards to be replaced, some routes are confusing when you walk without a guide - Bathrooms need some upgrading quite old

Dear 85Riaanv It just so happens that we are renovating bathrooms! Once we finish on one side of the resort, we will probably have to start again on the other! We refurbish 15 rooms every year!! Hiking alone can be a bit of an adventure and while we have a few signs at junctions it is important that the mountainside...

Return visit to a favourite place. Lovely relaxing venue with beautiful scenery. Comfortable rooms and lots of activities. Food was a bit disappointing this time around - would prefer to have well-cooked old time favourites like roast and veggies rather than nouvelle cuisine which didn't always come up to scratch (especially as this is a family resort).

Dear Alison Many thanks for coming back for a visit! You do sound just like my old-man! Where is the Roast and Veg? We have had to change things a bit but I don't think it could be called 'nouvelle' cuisine. Not sure we dare to tread there. We have two wonderful chefs who need to be able to have...

We had a great stay at the Cavern. We had heard so much about it. The room was lovely, the bed very cosy and warm and the staff were wonderful and friendly. The food delicious and beautifully presented and we enjoyed the walks in the country air. A beautiful setting and reasonably priced.
