We spent 3 nights at the hotel as a mini-break while in Mauritius, and it is easily the best hotel we have stayed at there. The food was delicious, the rooms are very well appointed, and the service is above average for Mauritius, although not up to the usual Relais & Châteaux standard. A few examples of the lack of R&C standard: for the first couple of days, the bar was playing the same playlist on repeat, and nothing was done about it until we pointed that out to staff. We also saw & heard staff arguing/bickering a lot during our stay, including managers admonishing staff. It doesn't even matter that most guests do not understand the local language, the tone of the conversation & shouting gives it away. There is a general lack of attention to detail, and the bar staff has differing standards: the quality of your drink depended heavily on who the barperson was on the day. The hotel doesn't have enough sunbeds for all the guests, so you can't enjoy the beach unless you get there very early. The boat dinner was a very nice experience, although overpriced for what you get. We also did the sunset cruise, which was disappointing: the staff were completely disorganised, it actually seemed as if it was their first time doing this: simple things like having a corkscrew on board, completely forgetting about serving the snacks until we got back to the jetty, etc. We also found that none of the snacks were seafood-free, which we had requested as my wife is allergic to seafood. Overall, compared to our previous hotel stays in MU, this is by far the best hotel on the island, and the absolute best part is that it is an adults-only hotel.

What a fantastic place this is I’m sat on my balcony writing this review All I can say is faultless Manisha helping us with our room - what a lovely lady. The reception staff were brilliant, helpful at all times. The lads sailing us over the bay superb The guys on the bar again brilliant Lastly but not least the food and food service staff, these people are absolutely fantastic. The food at this hotel is as good as anything we have had, and we have been fortunate where we have eaten around the world. I highly recommend the lady lisbeth boat for an off shore dining experience. I will recommend this place to anyone and I think the 1980’s hit by the Kane Gang “ the closest thing to heaven “ sums 20 Degres Sud up perfectly.

There is no doubt this is a very nice hotel with superb staff and excellent rooms. The breakfast is good but there were two aspects it falls short on - a miserable young barman who refuses to give cold water for drinks ‘apparently only in our rooms’ and the evening food (half board) - - I was surprised there were no salads or fresh fish and it was quite heavy‘French food’

Hello, Mr. Toby, warm greetings from sunny Mauritius. I'm glad to hear that you had a pleasant stay at our hotel, enjoying both the accommodations and the attentive service provided by our staff. It saddened me to read that you had a bad experience with our barman, I want to reassure you that this situation is an isolated one and needful have been done to ensure a proper level of service in that section. Even though we do offer several types of water free of charge throughout the day from fountains situated at the restaurant we also offer water from our bar counter. We greatly appreciate your feedback as it helps us continue to improve our services and my apologies again for this inconvenience. Small add on concerning your comments related to the variety of food, I can reassure you that we do offer a large variety of food whether it is for lunch or dinner, and we ensure that it does cover all taste. We do not propose ‘heavy French food’ as our menu is well balanced with multiple influences, but I do respect your criticism towards that as taste are not always aligned. I do hope to get the chance to welcoming you again. My best personal regards, Lindley Thomen, General Manager

My husband and I recently spent 10 nights at this beautiful boutique resort at christmas. Transfer was about an hour from the airport however it was well worth the journey and two flights from the UK!!! On arrival we were greeted and served a beautiful welcome drink. Our suite was not ready so we were shown to a changing room, we quickly dressed in beach wear and enjoyed the sun until our suite was ready. We stayed in the secret suite ! What a well kept private suite it is it is outstanding! The suite is huge has everything you need and has a beautiful private pool and sunbathing deck just what we asked for. We had no loungers so requested these as we wanted to relax and sunbathe daily due to our hectic lifestyle. The manager arranged this within 2 hours they were delivered! They also provided a blue tooth speaker when my husband queried where the the I pod and docking phone station was as advertised on their website. They apologised and said the website would be updated. The hotel is part of a French chain so a lot of the food has a french influence the staff speak very good English and there is a good . percentage of French clientele. The clientele is mixed all looking for peace, relaxation and luxury. The food is excellent we stayed half board which is sufficient. There is a complimentary afternoon tea which comprises of cake, biscuits tea and coffee all home made we sampled once the cookies are delicious! You have an allowance for your evening meal which doesnot include beverages of 4,500 rupee per couple for starter, mains and desserts. As we are not huge eaters this was more than ample for us however I could see how clients could go over their allowance. The food is fine dining with a great selection of meat/ fish and vegetarian dishes. We had excellent waiting staff efficient, professional and very welcoming especially the younger waiting staff their customer service skills was excellent. There was an older gentleman who claimed to have worked in hospitality for over 30 years he lacked the customer skills of the younger waiters and was quite rude. Cleanliness of room was brilliant by rani she is lovely welcoming and asset to the hotel!! The evening turn down service was not to the same level with some staff being off hand. Overall Christmas at 20 degrees Sud was amazing with a beautiful gala dinner on 24th December with lovely food beautiful Christmas decorations and gifts of a cake, stocking, Christmas hats and a lovely hand made bauble. There was live entertainment a great singer/ pianist. We did notice over the 10 nights in occasion groups arrive these were a little rowdy in the restaurant late at night as the rooms are nearby the management asked them to be quiet this was good management! Drinks are a pricey but not much different to Dubai or the Seychelles. My husband factored this in to our holiday so it was not an issue. You have bottled glass water in your room replaced daily. If you require more this is to be purchased. There is a local shop a small 10 min walk up the road left out of the hotel where you can purchase tonic/ alcohol/ pop / crisps etc at a cheaper rate. I have seen previous comments regarding flies on food at breakfast/ birds. This can be the case remember the country and climate. Most of the food is covered if not be sensible eat what is covered and where there is no flies, I recognise this can be difficult to manage. We did not access the spa but it appeared beautiful. We accessed the small gym the equipment is very noisy and clunky I feel this need to be upgraded as we exercise regular and it was not to the best standard. We had a wonderful Christmas holiday in a beautiful boutique resort the 20 degrees Sud provide all that we wanted it was Amazing thank you🥰

Pros Lovely rooms we had a g/floor beach front very comfortable Location and the beach were great. The staff were mainly very friendly and helpful but a couple did have attitude problems. Pools and facilities were excellent. The food was delicious with a good menu, but see cons below. Cons We went for afternoon tea on our second day and we were the first there. The cake was left on a table with no one there at the time and flys were on it so we gave it a miss chef arrived and started to serve it to other guests. At breakfast the toaster only half worked so we couldn’t have toast together, told the staff but nothing changed whilst we were there. Had a cooked breakfast which was nearly cold and we couldn’t eat it so didn’t bother again. As I said above the evening menu food was delicious but it came at a cost you were charged extra if you spent over a certain amount (we were aware of this prior to booking) but didn’t think the extra charges would be applicable at such a low value. This means that some main dishes were your budget spent so a starter and sweet were extra cost. Price of drinks were extortionate We bought some from the local supermarket. We won’t be rebooking. This is an honest and truthful review of our experience at the 20 degree dud.

Hello from Sunny Mauritius where you just spent your holidays. Thank you for your positive comment on our rooms, locations, cuisine, pools, beach and the staffs, to whom I will personally pass on your appreciation. As your feedback truly means to us, I do take into consideration all your cons for improvement. Regarding for credit allowance, the objective of setting this, is to provide guests with a diverse menu and the flexibility to choose dishes according to their preferences. We also offer a daily menu within the credit allowance, providing an easier option for our guests. As for the drinks, we understand your concerns. We regularly review our pricing to ensure competitiveness within the market and can assure you that the rates are within the range of any other hotel in the area. It is worth noting that 5 star establishments are subject to additional taxes compared to local supermarkets. I regret to hear that you won't be rebooking, and we genuinely hope you might reconsider in the future to make you feel the essence of Relais & Chateaux hospitality. My best personal regards to you, Lindley Thomen, General Manager

This boutique hotel on the north of the Island is private with beach front rooms for those lucky enough to book one. Others have their own balconies with sun beds. The beach front rooms are only a few feet away from both the beach and the sea. The only downside is that there are not enough sun beds out for everyone. Also the room floors are painted with normal paint, not non slip so the shower area can be very slippery. We paid for a whole body massage at the spa and although good, be warned, its very expensive with other hotels charging half the amount.

On arrival I was a little disappointed. The rooms are small. When I got my bearings I realised that everything I needed was in the room. It was clean and Manisha looked after us wonderfully. The staff in general were amazing. Edil, Dennis and Zhaarfir were absolutely the best. There were some staff that were less attentive and you often waited quite a while for service. There is a bar on the beach but it is not always open or staffed. There are definitely not enough sun beds. Towards the end of our holiday some people took to putting towels on the beds first thing. I believe the staff should remove those towels as often the people only turned up late afternoon. It took me a while to get my head round the cost of the evening meal. Although it generally worked I did not expect to spend my holiday having to calculate the cost of my meal. The food was amazing and if you didnt enjoy something they always offered an alternative. Our departure was a late one and you need to vacate your room by 11.30am. There is a departure room for storing your luggage and shower facilities. I think it would be better to be given a time slot for using this as my husband just got in the shower when the staff told us someone else needed the room as they were leaving in half an hour. This is a room where people come and go freely so privacy is difficult. My main problem was breakfast. The choice was fabulous and the food again delicious. However, at 7am the bread and pastries are brought out. Fortunately we are early risers so got to the pastries before the birds! The pastries are uncovered and the birds feast on them. Nibbling them, walking on them and sitting on the light above them so the possibilty of pooping on them!! I understand that we are on an island with beautiful birds but the food should be protected. I do hope the hotel reads this review and addresses this as there were many people who complained about this.

Very nice boutique style hotel with an excellent staff and grounds. Grand Baie itself sn’t much of a town, but the resort is lovely Beach can get busy given it’s size Rooms were lovely and very comfortable, we had a small suite on the beach. Slept really well. Good selection of activities: kayaks, sailing, snorkelling and boat trips Pros: Breakfast, beds, gardens, staff, rooms Definitely a memorable place - very beautiful and relaxing Cons: Dinner (wasn’t to our taste and a few cookery errors crept in). Bar is quite expensive relatively - might sell more if priced more to local conventions (beers and wine were on expensive side). Cocktails weren’t great. A good 8/10

Lovely quirky boutique hotel in good location . Visited twice and will be more than happy to return. Only one ( lovely) restaurant when we stayed ( although I think another one was planned) but food was great and offered different specials each evening. We coincided with a very large group on our last visit which caused a bit of a wait for service in the restaurant on occasion but manager was extremely helpful and more than compensated us for the inconvenience and lack of the usual excellent service . They set the bar high .

Our recent stay at 20 Degres Sud was exceptional. This hotel offers an idyllic escape that's second to none. If we could describe it in three words it would be: intimate, friendly, relaxing. The natural beauty of the location alone would have made the trip worthwhile, but what truly sets this hotel apart was the outstanding service and the warm, welcoming staff. Every member of the team consistently went above and beyond. A special thanks to General Manager Lindley who was fully dedicated to ensuring our stay was nothing short of magical. Thank you also to Denis, Vik and Leena who were brilliant. The restaurant here was a particular highlight of our visit to Mauritus (we stayed at many locations on the island). The food was nothing short of a culinary masterpiece, with both local and international dishes that left our taste buds in pure delight. The superbly crafted meals made every dining experience a memorable one. We really like that there was not only a set menu available every night, but also an a la carte. We’re already daydreaming about our return to this enchanting haven in Mauritius. It's not just a hotel; it's a sanctuary of beauty, hospitality, and gastronomic excellence, and we can't wait to come back for more. Thank you to Lindley and his team!
