Although it was the off season we still were in a great location close to the beach, restaurants, supermarket and a bunch of tourist attractions. The owners Smita and Salvador my fellow country folks were hospitable, informative and warm. I would definitely recommend staying with them if you don't mind giving up on a ocean view room for saving a bunch of money.
The owners Smita and Salvador were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Breakfast was stupendous with so many choices. It is very near to the supermarket and hotels, GrandBay beach is just 5 minutes walk. Though the BnB is near to the "all-happening" places, there is no noise of traffic and crowd. The area is quiet and calm. All these at a very affordable price!! What more can be expected from a BnB?
Me and my wife have spent wonderful 4 days in La Serenade. We love this place thanks to the owners - Smita and Salvador - and their everytime-smiling staff. From the first moment till the very end of our stay we felt like being at home which is something that connects you with whole beautiful island of Mauritius. As this was a part of our honeymoon, we have chosen the room with jacuzzi which we naturally found perfect and very useful! We also appreciated a view to a greenery. The last day we were allowed to have a pretty much later check-out as our flight back home was leaving at 11 p.m. Would definitely come back again and soon! Thank you, Milos & Pavlina from the Czech Republic
It was the first location we stayed in, and although we were not overly pleased with Grand Bay itself, we can not fault the acccomodation or the service. It was a lovely home with clean very CLEAN and nicely decorated AC double room. It was really great value for money at aprox £37 a night. The breakfast was included and it was very good there was something for everyone, both sweet and savory. It is run by a young couple, and it seems like they put thier heart into it, which is why generally it works so well.*** Attention: We had a very early flight and arrived at la serenade at 10 am. The check in an unusually late check in being at 3pm, we researched that small bnb in mauritius are usually flexible and helpful with this sort of thing and that our early arrival shouldnt be an issue. Once arriving at location( I would like to mention is a tad difficult to initially find and you MUST print out detailed map before attempting to find it, agoda failed to send adequate directions and we were told even taxi drivers have had diffuculty in locating it). We found ourselfs with serious jet lag after a 12 hour flight a 2.5 hour drive from airport to then being told there was no option for an early checkin, not because rooms were occupied by because the cleaner wouldnt be there to clean until 1-2pm. Then the owners left before midday and said they would be back in the afternoon ( it was like this everyday). At this point we changed in the communal bathroom downstairs and I fell asleep on the concrete floor in the patio from exhaustion. We did get let in at 2.10pm rather than 3pm, sadly I do feel it could of been dealt with with a little more urgency and perhaps down to inexperience. Due to the excellent stay we had that morning onwards I can not give a bad review. But I wish the situation was dealt with better, although perhaps I should of emailed about my arrival time in advance. I did not anticipate the consequence. Generally 5/5 for bnb style acomodation and I must emphasise how clean the room and entire accomodation was! I do recomend La serenade, and would stay again. I would discuss check in times in advance, ideally have a car, and buy a detailed map of mauritius! Good Luck!…
I normally not a fan to write comments on yelp or trip advisor. But this is my first time writing comments ( Cause I want to write and share with you my great experience here ) Yeah, I love Mauritius and La Serenade , sometimes when you love the place it is not really because of the fancy food or fancy place you stay but it's all about PEOPLE ! I had a really good time with Smita & Salvador at La Serenade ! Thank you guys that you make my stay in Mauritius feeling like home. Every morning when I get to the kitchen having my morning coffee and talk to Scelle, it's just like chatting with my mommy and she is preparing my breakfast. I love the belonging feelings here and when the last day packing my luggages, I feel really down that I am leaving such a beautiful place and nice people :) A couple of highlights of La Serenade I would like to share with you, so that you can get a brief ideas of how good it is: 1. Locations- a.It is located in grand bay- very convenient to Super U ( local super market), you can just walk like 5-10mins and get there. Bring some drinks- Phoneix beer ( very light and tasty local beer ) and you can buy some half-finished food and take back to La Serenade cause they have kitchen you can DIY your food either put in their refrigerator. ( So when I am walking to super U and buying some food back to la serenade it just makes me feel like I am a resident here ) b.5 mins walk to grand bay, 10 mints walk to La Cuvette beach. If you would like to find some water entertainment. those two places you should go and if you stay in La serenade here it's just 5-10 mins walk there. Stop by Seaman diving and say hi to Jack there ! haha ( Seaman is a great place you can do diving, very professional divers there and they are very patient to teach step by step ) c.Also very close to exchange store, a lot good local restaurants here. 5 mins walk to Happy Raja ( Indian restaurant ) either you can call them they can deliver to La Serenade. A must go noodle place - Kouloir. ( it is a little tiny noodle place but it is soooo good and you can just walk 5 mins from La Serenade and get there !!) 2. Accommodation Very clean/ nice room, good view of the sunset and sunrise from your balcony. There is a nice pool at first floor so even you can spend a whole afternoon just relaxing in the pool at La Serenade and listen to the music. ( They have TV at first floor, you can play your music there. That's really make you feel like you are just at home :) Everything set very organized and adaptors/ hair dryers / towels/ air conditioners/ Wifi, whatever you need La Serenade have all help you considered and set in your room :) Honestly, I booked my Mauritius ticket two days ahead when I get there, I didn't do any research of places I shall go or what I shall do. I just get there and stayed in La Serenade, my 5 days trip in Mauritius is perfect and I will come back again with my future boyfriend ! Cause Smita has a good taste of food , places where you shall go. Booked La Serenade and chat with Smita, I promise your stay in Mauritius will be your lifetime memory and you will come back again :) Jenny CHEN Shanghai, CHINA 2/23/2015…
Spurred on by previous positive reviews we decided to book La Serenade for the weekend, having previously stayed in a couple of hotels in Grand Baie. The price is very reasonable, location is good - 10 minute walk to the centre of Grand Baie. Parking is on road but the road is pretty quiet so no worries. The welcome is genuinely friendly and the service provided by the lovely couple who own it is second to none for a B&B. The rooms are clean, big enough for a couple for a weekend but maybe a little short on storage for any long stays. The pool is small but very clean. Breakfast was good - a selection of cheeses, ham, lots of fruit, tea coffee etc. No option to have a full english but when it's this hot a light meal is recommended! If you are looking for a base to explore Grand Baie I'd recommend this above anywhere else.…
Hi , I stayed there for 2 days in December 2014. It was a very quite, nice and clean place. But the only problem is that my expectation was too much because so many reviews have overrated it too much. I go on official visits in 5 * Hotels in Mumbai quite often and the reviews of others on Serenade made me expect the same thing equivalent to Mumbai's 5* Hotels. All these have nothing to do with the owners and staff of Serenade who are very helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was just simply ok not so special like many others were saying. I was expecting it to be similar to Le Plaza Hotel in Mumbai ( because some of the reviews just mentioned the BF to be like 5* Hotels). The parking is on the public road. Only one car can park inside the property of Serenade. So this keeps you wondering whole night. There is one huge building in construction just on the side of le serenade, there was much noise from some people for the whole night enjoying in that in-construction building. The sliding door between the room and the toilet is too noisy. If you go to toilet during the night, you will not miss disturbing the other roommates. The door cannot be left opened during the night while others are sleeping because of the noise from the water closet and because of the smell ( not saying the WC is dirty...it is clean). So in summary, Le Serenade is a nice place with nice staff but don't be overzealous and don't over-expect ......don't get mislead with some of the too-overrating reviews. Thanks. Ravi ( Mauritius)…
We came to La Serenade not expecting anything amazing however the staff Smita, Sal, Scella and Neeta were absolutely exceptional in the service that they provided. I am currently staying at the 5 star resort La Residence in Mauritius as this was pre arranged before I came to Mauritius and I can guarantee that we missed La Serenade very much. Both Smita and Sal were fountains of knowledge when it came to not only the local area but also all tourist activities having done many of them themselves. The breakfast had a lot of variety and local patisseries were available which were delicious and added to our feeling of discovering Mauritius. The room was super clean, well presented and had working air conditioning. We especially liked the bathroom which had hot water, was clean and had all the shelves and towels in the right places. The pool outside is clean and wonderfully refreshing. The local area has an amazing bus network where nothing is too out of reach otherwise tours and taxis can be arranged with a friendly, reliable taxi driver Kessaven. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast!…
We stayed here for 14 days in January 2015 and loved it. Brilliant value for money and superb hospitality. We received such a personal helpful service which we have never received in big hotels. Location is great, walking distance to the beach and shops. Spotlessly clean, comfy rooms with a bonus jacuzzi, WIFI and Air Con Julia & Tony Whittle
This being our first visit to Mauritius, we selected La Serenade on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews, both regarding the accommodation itself and its location in Grand Baie. Given our lack of experience, we were prepared for some of our choices not working out but in fact we had as near to a perfect vacation as we could have expected. La Serenade is categorised as a "Bed and Breakfast" which to many British travellers of a certain age conjures up images of chintz covered boarding houses in run-down seaside resorts. La Serenade could not be further from this and perhaps should be thought of as a very nice bijou hotel that does without a dining room or bar. It is a newly purpose-built building which is spotlessly clean, spacious and well appointed. There is a pool which, whilst small, is bigger than a plunge pool, a roof terrace where it is beautiful to share a night cap in the warm evening air whilst watching shooting stars, and a comfortable breakfast room. The bedrooms have comfortable beds, efficient air conditioning and modern bathrooms, and are efficiently cleaned on a daily basis. The real stars of the show, however, are the proprietors Sal and Smita; I can't imagine any guests ever departing from La Serenade without a feeling of warmth from the joy of meeting this charming young couple. They are helpful, efficient and above all great fun. We feel privileged to have met them and made two new friends whom we will endeavour to remain in touch with. As to Grand Baie itself it was, for us, an ideal location. It is large enough to provide variety, small enough to remain intimate and with good connections to other parts of the island. All of the restaurants in which we dined were of a high standard. Prices in the tourist bars were reasonable. If you are looking to spend your vacation in a gated resort complex then you probably won't be reading this review and, in fairness our holiday experience probably wouldn't suit you. If, however, you wan't to spend some time in a vibrant town surrounded by fantastic sandy beeches, and explore the island and the local restaurants, then La Serenade would surely be hard to beat.…
