Place is missing warmth, both physically and with staff. At checkin, receptionist seemed bored with his job and gave us the barest of instructions such as where to park, how to get to our room, etc. The pool doesn't allow children because the poolside bar serves alcohol; the bar is closed due to Covid-19. Children still not allowed in. Many guests (including us) unhappy about this. The interior decorator for this hotel was either doing his/her first hotel job, or the hotel management decided to be cheap: very few pictures on the wall, bathrooms done in minimalist white walls and fixtures, no hook in the bathroom for a towel, no mirror (who ever heard of a bathroom without a mirror?), poor bathroom lighting. And one word about making reservations: when I called reservations their "cheapest" rate was double what I found online FROM THE HOTEL ITSELF. They clearly aren't being told about special rates. So don't book through the hotel agents if you do decide to go.

For the cost of a mid-price hotel, you stay at this Colonial Style Converted with Modern features and amenities. Our room was spotless and had everything we needed and well-appointed. IT is a maze of rooms that have views to either a country road where other estates are also located in the middle there is good size courtyard with trees and you can see a glass main area from your bedroom window if you get a rooming facing this area. It snowed while we were there and made for a nice escape.

The staff was very nice although I am not sure of how well trained. The grounds are lovely with a pool, tennis courts, and sports equipment for playing games like badminton and croquet. But randomly— the pool is 21 and older; the tennis courts were littered with trash, as were parts of the lawn area; the three hand sanitizer stations we tried to use were empty; the decor is haphazard and with little regard to the estate history; gym use not complimentary; $20 resort fee per night; my view in room hampered by noticeably dirty windows.
Rooms were fine. Nice TV, reliable WiFi, comfortable beds and pillows, clean room, refrigerator and coffeemaker in the room. Parking was convenient. Snack items in lobby were (relatively) reasonably priced—important given that the one restaurant left on the site is dinner only and pricey for families, and off-site eateries are a few miles away.

The Tarrytown House Estate's website boldly advertises the Goosefeather restaurant as one of its premiere amenities. And yet, when we checked in to stay at Tarrytown House Estate, we were told the restaurant was closed due to a private event (a wedding on the property). There are NO OTHER food or dinner options on the grounds itself. Without a car to drive into town, you're out of luck. When we raised the issue with the front desk staff, we were first told that "Goosefeather" is completely independent of the Estate, and that the Estate has no control over whether the restaurant is open or not. Again, one check at the Estate's website, the Estate TOUTS the Goosefeather restaurant as one of its premiere amenities. When I mentioned that in reply, we were then asked if we had made dinner reservations with the now-closed restaurant for that evening, and we replied "No." The staff then had the arrogance to reply, "well, you wouldn't have gotten in anyway because they're often booked a couple months in advance."

Had we not prepaid our stay with a non-refundable rate, we would have checked out that afternoon. The Estate's two pools (indoor and outdoor) we're both closed (and looked like they had been for some time) so not sure why Tarrytown House Estate is still billing a $25.00/night "resort fee." The "Estate King Guestroom" we had was inside a building that looked exactly like a college dormitory....long hallways with worn carpet. Our room was on a wing of 5 rooms that were directly above an open lounge area for people to gather.

While the estate might be fine for destination weddings or business conferences that book the property exclusively for their event, it's not a friendly property for a personal vacation. Especially if you need to eat...

We were in the Fairfield building room 249. The room was horrid, the furniture was a Hodgepodge of different styles that did not work. The “nightstand” was too small for the room and you could not reach it from either bed. The outside electrical cord laying on it was an interesting choice. The bed was ok, I slept in my clothes as the sheets were too big for the bed, the duvet had stains on it. The bathroom was grimy. The sink handled came off in my husbands’ hand and we had to take cold showers. Peeling paint, the vent in the bathroom was gross and dusty. Stains in the shower and peeling paint. The room was so gross that I bought a pair of sleepers (at the CVS) so I did not have to touch the floor. Also, all I heard all night was slamming doors and people talking. This was a last-minute stay so I did not shop pricing or look up an online review (which now I see would have saved me $ 250+)

The lobby looked amazing and the grounds were lush and well maintained. That is about all the good things I have to say.
There was a dog costume event that day on the lawn. I was told by the front desk if I wanted to enjoy the bar out on the lawn, I would have to pay 25 $ each for tickets to the dog costume event. I bought my own bottles of wine and went to sit on the lawn with my husband. We sat for an hour before 4 to 8 people sat down next to us and started playing house music, loudly. We decided to go up to the room to get ready for dinner.

At 10 of 5, we headed off to dinner. We arrived and were asked if we had a reservation. I was told, we did not need one. There are 2 restaurants on this property. The restaurant had not even opened yet, the hostess came back 2 minutes later and told us they “might” have a table at 9:45 pm. Did not ask if I wanted to get on a waitlist, nothing she just waved us away. We walked over to the second restaurant/bar; we were told they were closed to an event.

This hotel worries more about the events than the hotel itself. Which is sad, the hotel has some great bones, but it needs an overhaul or changes the name to motel6!

Don't stay here. Save your money. I'm a local and stayed for a night for a relaxing staycation on a beautiful property. They said they're doing extra cleaning for covid-19 but it took all of two seconds through the lobby door to figure out that's not the case. I only saw one hand sanitizer station and it was empty. There were dirty finger prints on light switches and door handles, old toothpaste spray in the bathroom. I brought sanitizing wipes so I wiped down every surface I had to touch. They were hosting a large event and no one was wearing masks. I had intended to walk around the beautiful estate but it felt unsafe to do so and I stayed in the room instead. The room itself was in poor shape. Peeling paint on the bed frame. Peeling paint on the tiles in the shower (??) which I didn't even use because it looked so gross. The bedspread was stained. I almost went home an hour after I got there. They're doing the bare minimum to keep people safe and comfortable. I hope the owner sells to someone who will invest more to match the guest experience to their marketing efforts.

We went for an overnight fall getaway. First the good. Goosefeather restaurant is out of this world! Everything was delicious and our party of 7 tried almost everything on the menu. The restaurant itself is beautiful and everything you could want-great service in a stunning atmosphere. The lobby was renovated and nice. There are some pretty spots on the property-fountains, etc. check in was quick and helpful and they do give you a little covid kit with masks and gloves. It was close to Lyndhurst mansion and Sleepy Hollow. The rooms are soundproof.

The hotel was a different story. After reading the reviews, I thought a renovated room would solve the issues, but I was too optimistic. I do not want to be negative because I understand how hard businesses have been hit from the Pandemic. While the property has the potential to be amazing, the outdated buildings and lack of staff made it feel more like a 1970’s Catskills scene from Dirty Dancing or like the original Mt. Airy Loge. The room was 80% renovated, but they skimped on the bathroom, left old toilets and roughly finished or not repaired walls. The hallways also show the age and there are water spots on ceilings and just has a general outdated, musty feel. The continental breakfast was inedible for $20 and I believe the food is possibly kosher. There are plastic and some wood Adirondack chairs on the front lawn but there is no staff maintaining them. There were only 2 fire pits for all the guests and staff did not provide additional wood for the fire pits and did not wipe down the chairs or the tables between groups. No heat lamps were on the lawn. They actually came and asked us to leave at 11:30 and poured water over the fire, leaving nowhere for us to sit besides the rooms. In the morning, garbage was strewn all around the chairs and fire pits, staff didn’t clean the area at the end of the night or the next morning. There was a wedding the night we were there and the debris, including broken glass was still left all over the outdoor patio the next day. This is not a luxury hotel and not worth 300 a night. The website is beyond misleading.

So, all in all, go for the restaurant, but stay elsewhere.

Beautiful grounds on a former estate overlooking the Hudson. I have previously stayed here many times , but this time was hugely disappointing. Service is non-existent, supposedly due to Covid protocols. No housekeeping, or even replacement of towels, in-room coffee and toiletries or emptying the trash in 4 days. When I requested housekeeping, nobody responded when I returned at the end of the day. Also a $25/day "resort fee" tacked onto the bill, which is a deceptive charge. Room was poorly appointed and there was water leaking from the window that damaged the drapes and plaster was falling onto the sill. Parking is far from the rooms and dragging my bags across the campus, up hills and navigating many stairs was way more effort than necessary. How about baggage or golf carts? Overall, not a pleasant experience.

Hello,
My name is Candese Drexler. I had a reservation on 10.15.2021. I am reaching out due to me requesting an accessible room - my boyfriend is in a wheelchair and CAN NOT walk under any circumstances. The estate is nice and the grounds are beautiful, but our room did not have a roll in shower as I requested. I called and made the reservation over the phone to confirm that we would have wheelchair accessible accommodations. I did also ask about the dining and bar options and at NO time was I made aware that the lift to access the bar for wheelchair accessibility was broken. This was very disappointing considering I paid over $300 to stay for the night. As I said the hotel is nice, but the lack of communication and being given a room that was not accessible was extremely disappointing. If I would of been made aware about the accessibility issues I would be more understanding but this was a get away surprise for my boyfriend and I feel I let him down due to not having the right accommodations that I was assured were at this location upon a phone call to book our stay. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Sincerely,
Candese

I was so enchanted with this place, that I didn’t even take a lot of pictures (I usually take tons of pics). I was just walking around and appreciating it’s serenity, and peacefulness. The picture that you see is of my partner among this beautiful little walkway that leads to the outdoor pool. It was the only picture I had that really captured the feeling of it all.
The room was a double, and it was simple - made for sleeping or watching TV. The air conditioning worked well, and it was neat/clean.
The little castle where you have breakfast was absolutely amazing to walk through. I felt like I was high class (though I’m far from it 😉), and all of the employees treat you like you belong; they’re kind and they smile, have conversation with you. I know I’ve waited a long time to write this review, but I am looking to visit again, and it reminded me that I have never written one. By the way, the breakfast was awesome! Yummy!
The pool is tiny, so if you do not like to be in close quarters with people, I would probably say that you would not like it BUT, I loved it. I liked socializing and meeting new people.
That’s it for now; after my stay this weekend, I will update my review.

We did not go to the pool. Be careful. The walls here are VERY thin and the doors scrape so it's a challenge to sleep. I do not recommend this place although the grounds look pretty nice.
