We recently traveled from Buffalo to Syracuse so my wife could obtain her COVID vaccine had an early appointment so decided to stay in Syracuse the preceding night and was looking for something close to the state fairgrounds. The Syracuse Downtown at Armory Square Residence Inn turned out to be an ideal location only minutes away from the fairgrounds. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely helpful on arrival, noticed I was a Platinum member for life and upgraded our suite. Found the hotel itself to be exceptionally clean, these days we always wipe down our room on arrival and found ours was immaculate. This is February in the middle of a pandemic so you would not expect many establishments to open but to our surprise there was a fair selection of excellent local restaurants and diners just steps outside the front door of the Residence Inn. Miss the breakfast which is normally served at Residence Inns due to COVID restrictions, but a bagged breakfast was available at the desk along with coffee service. In general, this was a very enjoyable stay and if you are attending any functions at the New York State fairgrounds in the future you cannot beat this Residence Inn for quality and location.

This place is not only centrally located and walking distance to all the downtown Syracuse attractions, but is also a quite, tasteful and great place to stay. The staff is extremely accommodating, they helped with packages getting sent out, groceries getting delivered, breakfast and many other special requests. Absolutely recommend it!

We stayed here one night on a weekend and really enjoyed the property.

We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite. It was really nice for everyone to have their own room. We could gather in the living room and have dinner at the kitchen table.

There is only valet parking on the property for $15 but we parked in the lot across the street for $10.

There are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance including the famous Dinosaur BBQ.

I called this hotel at 12pm to see if it was possible to check in. The room was not available because they had sold out the night before. No problem, the front desk said we were able to check in at 2 or 3. We arrived around 3pm, still no room available. Working at a Marriott before, I had a funny feeling something wasn’t right. I asked front desk if they had “oversold” - yes that’s a thing. Management doesn’t care if their guests are happy they just care that they can sell out a hotel and make money. This means that the people who aren’t platinum status, or who stay on discounts(myself) it’s okay to bump them somewhere else or say something is “wrong with the room” when in fact no rooms are available. My suspicions were right. Then another woman came down (assuming it was housekeeping) no one introduced themselves and if anything it was a hassle to even provide good customer service. She lied and said they didn’t oversell. She said we had a room after I asked to be sure. We did have an event to go to. They said we had to wait for about 30 mins. Eventually we got the room. A little dirty but didn’t want to complain . I did notice a pitcher of water was left in the room, I wasn’t sure if a guest had left it so I brought it down. Nothing but attitude from the front desk. “Um there’s part of the room.” I’m sorry I didn’t know, especially because it wasn’t clean. Also said the HVAC was not working properly. I informed them that it was only staying on 73. We tried multiple times to change it but it didn’t stay. I’m not stupid, I waited and it still didn’t change. Came back hours later to a maintenance note saying please not it waits at least 30 minutes to adjust. We waited hours and nothing changes. Overall just disappointed because I never write reviews like this and I just felt like basic hospitality lacked, and was very bummed.

This hotel is clean and neat. Beds are comfy and there is a full kitchen which is nice, BUT Armory Square is not what I thought. Friday and Saturday nights are very noisy till the wee hours so if you don't like loud car music get a room that does not face the street. Breakfast is a waste of so called food. The oatmeal is tepid, there is NO TOASTER for the bread/bagels and the are no entrees except warmed over pancakes and French toast - the egg sandwiches are not even taken out of their plastic wrappers. The staff is great and the same day shopping for grocery offer is unique. The lobby market is ok on drinks and snacks but again real food options from this hotel are limited / non existent. pool is OK and complimentary laundry detergent is a nice feature.

Dear Y5124NDmichelleo, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay. I am sorry if your were disappointed. Our breakfast standards were recently updated by Marriott. Unfortunately, we have had difficulty in sourcing all the breakfast items that are required and have had to provide substitutions that may not be as popular. We have continued to offer bread and bagels. However, a toaster is not part of the new breakfast standard (nor are scrambled eggs or the waffle maker). We hope to have the correct items soon. I do apologize for your disappointment. Street noise in the Armory Square area is something we have brought to our local leaders and the police department. There are noise ordinances that are in place but need to be enforced. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Thank you for staying with. Julie

The building is home to both Residence Inn and Courtyard. Good room, clean and quiet. Very close to I-690. The location is pretty much at the city center, with Niagara Mohawk building and Clinton Square around the corner. They charge $10 for covered parking but I think you can park in front of the hotel for free.

Decided to spend my husband’s birthday weekend in Syracuse and booked this hotel. It’s a great location! We walked to our dinner reservation at Lemon Grass, which was nice. The common areas are nice and the pool reservation process was easy and guaranteed our safety.
We had a King room with the sofa bed and both sleeping areas were extremely uncomfortable. The mattress on the king bed was the hardest thing my husband and I have ever slept on. I actually felt bruised from sleeping on the bed-which I didn’t know was a thing. Our room faced a busy area and we could hear loud music, conversations and cars all night. Lastly, the pull out bed on the sofa had a huge stain! Gross!

Stayed 1 night. Based on all the good reviews I was surprised to find our room so very run down & dirty. There were food particles along with splatters on the wall by the table, holes in the wall over the bedroom dresser, and the couch looked so dirty I wouldn't even rest my bag on it. This is in addition to the general run down appearance in this room. I have stayed at numerous residence inns and this room did not live up to expectations. Location was good and everything else was fine except for the room condition.

I called this hotel several times attempting to speak to either the GM or Director of Sales for a 6-week rate. I spoke to the same guy who answered the phone 4 separate times. The first time he claimed he did not know how to transfer my call and asked me to call back so he could answer on different phone which he knew how to transfer from. I asked if there was a separate number I needed to call and he said "no." This made no sense to me at all, but I did as he asked. When he answered, he actually had the audacity to say; "you just called on the same number." Well, what other number should I have called???? At this point I asked if he was playing games with me and he said no, he was just very busy. He then said he just saw the GM and assured me if I left my number she would call me in literally one minute. I'll bet you can guess what happened, right? 40 minutes went by and no call, so I called back. This time the same employee acted as if he had no recollection of any of our calls. I confirmed his name so it was the same guy. He then told me the GM was off for the day. The same GM he assured would call me? The same GM who walked past him a short while before? This guy was definitely yanking my chain- or perhaps he is just plain unqualified for the job. He has no customer service skills at all. At this point I just asked to speak to someone, anyone who could give me a rate and he was rude and again wanted my name & number which I had already given him, so I hung up.

This transpired over an afternoon, and I became done with his lack of professionalism very quickly. I could almost feel him snickering at my frustration. When I am intending to spend Five grand, I am not dealing with shenanigans. The Solution? I booked a 6 week stay at another suites hotel right near them in Syracuse. This Residence Inn can thank their employee at the front desk for losing a $5500 booking, any future business from me, and also received this handy little negative review because of that one employee. There are sooo many hotels to choose from. Find one that cares about your business.

Dear RACE77, Thank you for sharing with me your experience. I am stunned and embarrassed at the story that you have told. It is certainly not the way we do business and does not meet my expectations. I have spoken with the gentleman you described and explained to him how he should have handled this differently and at the very minimum he should have gotten someone that could assist you if he could not. He is quite new to this position and I am confident that he learned something about guest service in our conversation. We too realize there are a number of choices for your hotel needs and we have learned all too well over the last 18 months how very important every guest is. All I can say is I am sorry for the frustration you experienced. If I can be any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to connect with me directly. Sincerely, Julie Martin Barfield, GM julie.martinbarfield@crestlinehotels.com 315-449-6402 (O)

If your idea of an awesome getaway is being kept awake until 4 am, then look no further -- this is the hotel for you. During your stay here, you can expect to enjoy such 90s classics as Sir Mix Alot "Baby Got Back" and LL Cool J "Loungin" (to name only a few) blasting into your room as cars cruise by all night long, complemented perfectly by the sound of motorcycle engines revving constantly throughout the night. The pool of urine and smell of pot in the elevator the next morning was a nice touch. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for a terrible stay.

The Destiny Mall is a few miles away - you would need to drive. We used the valet parking because Syracuse was in the middle of a snowstorm and the streets were not plowed. There is street parking available if you want to make the effort to find a spot.
