Syracuse is a lovely city with many attractions to enjoy. Our room has a large size smart tv, cable, good water pressure in a spacious shower, a comfortable bed, and kind service from Sai at the desk. This particular Clarion Pointe happens to be very close (1 block walkable) to a laundromat to wash clothing as desired over a lengthy stay. Their breakfast offering includes an ample selection of hot, cold, and bakery foods. Lastly, we felt the price charged was quite reasonable for the accomodations.

In May '22 we spent two nights at the Quality Inn and Suites in downtown Syracuse.
Our experience there was mixed but it exceeded our expectations, which were fairly low, going in.

We chose it because it was modestly priced and within walking distance of St. Joseph’s hospital and Armory Square (the city’s main restaurant district). We had read the negative reviews and we knew that area of the city was a kind of rough so we had no illusions that this was a five star hotel or that it would even be up to the standards of Quality Inns in the suburbs.

This “inn” is a motel, not a hotel, and guests can get to their rooms from the parking lot or from the lobby, through partially enclosed and secured walkways along the exterior of the building. This was a plus for us as we were still COVID-careful and trying to minimize time spent in enclosed public spaces. It helped that we had mild spring weather during our stay. Getting to and from these rooms would probably feel very different in the cold of winter or during a summer heat wave.

The three-story building is old and clunky with an exterior that is utterly devoid of charm but is being reasonably well maintained. Our room was clean, spacious and seemed as if it had been remodeled not too long ago. It had a microwave, a medium-sized refrigerator and a coffee-maker but, surprisingly for a so-called “suite”, no table on which to eat. It was darker than we would have liked, as the décor was heavy on deep blues and browns, but it wasn’t so dark as to feel uncomfortable. Our one window was on the back of the building and afforded an uninspiring view of the highway and an abandoned warehouse, but it did provide natural light and was partially screened and could have been opened, had we wanted to do so. Most of the other rooms have windows on the front, facing the walkways, and probably let in less light.

The parking lot is unsecured but it is monitored by video cameras, which are watchable by the desk attendants. There was safe in our room that was big enough to store our laptops and other valuables.

The area in which the motel is situated has seen better days and is a hodge-podge of industrial and commercial buildings, once-stately structures that have fallen into decay and a few small businesses, including a 7-11 and pizza shop. We felt totally comfortable walking around during daylight hours and the few other pedestrians we encountered were in no way threatening.

The folk staffing the reception desk seemed to members of one family and could not have been nicer or more helpful. We would happily stay there again.

I always choose Quality Inn and Suites Downtown when i visit Syracuse and CNY for business or leisure. The staff at the hotel always go above and beyond to provide excellent service. The hotel remained open with the highest cleanliness during the pandemic and continues to improve over time. Robert, the area manager always goes above and beyond to say hello to his guests. The in house staff are fantastic too. There is ample secure parking. The hotel has modernized over time to include E car charging stations if you happen to have an electric car. It is close to the downtown dining districts, bars, Syracuse University and several hospitals. I highly recommend giving the property a try if you haven't already.

Sheets needed to be changed in 2 out of 3 of our rooms. Rooms smelled bad. Young girl, must be owners daughter was left at the desk to deal w guests. She was too young. When we asked for our sheets to be changed she gave us new sheets and said we could do it ourselves. It just didn't dawn on her that this is a service we expect when paying $180 /nt per room. The whole place was run down and dirty. Stay away.

I booked the hotel in October of last year(2021) for the Elton John concert this last weekend (09/10/2022) I got a really good deal. So when I went to check in, they claimed I had no reservation and there was no way I got a room for the price I paid. I was told they do not have single queen suits (their website says differently) and they never have prices as low as what I paid (their website says differently) . They just did not want to give me the room for what I paid. Hotel price gouging for events should be Illegal.

The room was not clean, carpet not vacuumed, furniture was dusty and the desk had some kind of white streaks on it. You could sit on the toilet and see outside around the front door. The smoke detector was falling out of the ceiling, and our key card stopped working after the 1st night.

I know s**t happens, but treating customers like they are an inconvenience to you is not acceptable. PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!

I arrived at 1:30 in the morning after being at the hospital or on the road all day. I was exhausted. Marcel was so nice and patient with me. He made sure I had everything I needed before showing me where the elevator was. (Most places just tell you) The next morning I had a good breakfast and when I got ready to check out Manali made sure I had a good nites stay and everything was alright, she asked if I needed anything before I left. I just want to say how great everyone was, parking was easy, but most importantly, my room was spotless, well stocked with towels shampoo etc.. I would definitely stay there again.

I am a diamond member for choice hotels and have never dealt with a more dishonest business than this quality inn. I was charged a $2 "gratuity for salary emoloyee" fee without my knowledge or authorization. This isnt about the money but the fact someone took it upon themselves to take money that dont belong to them. I will never go back here and have informed my 23 field employees that they are not allowed to stay here again

The room is in need of some TLC but the service was great. Quality of food was also very good. Because the room door exited outside the Hotel there was always a draft in the room but this is the same room we had last year and we learned to leave with that as it was close to the parking.

Is it within easy walking distance to Armory Square? Is it save to walk in the area at night?
Answer from Christine M

I would like to say Yes it is safe. We stayed there only for one night. So it seemed safe. We never went out walking at night so we dont know if it is safe to walk in the night time. The next day when we checked out, there was no problems. And we had time to walk around the area. We had walked to an Antiques store couple of blocks away. It was very safe out there. Then we called the Taxi to take us to the Train Station.
