LOL, reading the comments from above. IDK, but we were comfortable walking about as well as biking. It is NYC, so I guess it depends on where you are from. We had absolutely no issues (it was my wife and two adult children) wandering about. The Harbor House is not the Hilton, but we were looking for a simple place without having to pay Manhattan prices! We got what we payed for and what we expected. When you exit the place, go either way, then walk up the hill, away from the river. A block away is the main drag, with a D&D for breakfast, and several restaurants. We walked one night to an Italian restaurant--Da Noi on Fingerbread Rd, which is an easy (and SAFE!) walk of about 15 minutes. WONDERFUL food if you are into Italian. We also walked or rode our bikes down to the ferry every day, and had no issues whatsoever (and we were getting in after midnight). The train will run you within a few blocks of the Harbor House, so it was very easy. Along the river towards the ferry is a warehouse district that is bustling during the day and very dark at night, so we just walked the main street which was absolutely fine. I don't know what to say--keep your expectations in check, and go wander! I was not uncomfortable at all. Good luck and I hope you enjoy!
