I fell in love with Sharon Springs!! I heard about the great work that Doug and Garth did with the American Hotel. 18,000 dollars down, 400,000 in loans, and five years of sweat equity. Success stories...Cinderella stories...are inspiring! Cinderella goes to the ball in her finery in Sharon Springs. The American Hotel, and hopefully all of Sharon Springs, will shake...

A charming boutique hotel that offers so much more than a room. Doug and Garth are so welcoming and immediately make you feel like you're at home. The breakfast, which is included, was a real treat and the menu offered a variety of gourmet breakfast selections. Dinner was amazing and we especially enjoyed the pickled carrots. My compliments to the...

After 3 nights at a conference in Saratoga Springs, we were looking for a place to stay over the week-end to enjoy the scenery in the Adirondacks region before heading home. I was having a hard time finding a place that was not a super eight or yet another conference style hotel. Something attractive. I searched for places within 100...

I'm one of those lucky people, who has made the American an annual event with a group of college pals. I can not recommend a place more highly; Doug, Garth and every single member of their staff from housekeeping to chef do everything possible to make our stay memorable, fun, comfortable, yummy and full of love & laughter. The hotel...

Just spent a wonderful night at the American Hotel in Sharon Springs. From the moment you walk in the door you are welcomed. The staff is smiling and pleasant, the rooms are lovely, the dinner and breakfast fabulous! And Hosts Doug and Garth could not be more gracious. Charm in abundance in place and person! We will certainly be back.

Beautifully restored hotel in Sharon Springs. What a treat. Walking in through the front door felt like we were walking into a cozy home of a good friend. The lobby/bar space was perfect. The bar tender (Angelina?) was crazy busy all night long but was friendly and very helpful. Doug and Garth, the owners made their rounds to make sure...

Set in a hotel restored from decay, in a town that is slowly being restored, there is built-in appreciation as you enter this place. One flip through the photo album of what it looked like, and what it now does, left me feeling like I was witnessing a miracle. The mood, finishes, lighting were all wonderful and appropriate to the...

We made our reservations months in advance for our first Harvest Festival experience. From the second we entered the building, until the moment we checked out, we felt like friends welcomed by all. It was a hopping place all weekend, since there were lots of extra people in town and the bar at the American Hotel is popular. Our room...

My friend and I wanted a relaxing night's stay before heading to Cooperstown for the opera the next morning and were okay with spending a little more for a nice experience. We got that and more. The hotel oozes charm and warmth, the staff are lovely, and the owners, Doug and Garth, couldn't be more welcoming and charming. We took...
