The Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark, often celebrated for its family-friendly atmosphere and ideally located for family gatherings, garners mixed reviews. Guests appreciate the spacious rooms and waterpark's cleanliness but encounter disappointments in other areas. Numerous travelers report issues ranging from room maintenance and cleanliness to inconsistent service, particularly in dining and room servicing. While the hotel's amenities are acknowledged, complaints about understaffing and closed attractions, along with high prices and hidden fees, have led to a consensus that the resort may not provide the best value for its cost.

Just finished a two night stay with my family of four (mom, dad, 5 and 2 year olds) and overall, would rather go back to Kalahari or Great Wolf for a waterpark hotel trip!
Pros:
Good size waterpark with Little kiddie area, big kid splash area, 4 “big kid” slides and flowrider and even a pool that went to the outdoors (Pretty cool!)
Didn’t seem too crowded despite being told it was booked to capacity during our stay
Pretty clean, big and modern rooms
Bunk beds for the kids had a zipper which was great to contain my 2 yo who tends to kick blankets off
Complimentary activities like sand art and balloon making where most other places would charge
No monitoring of waterpark towels (with roomcards) which is a pain at most other places
Cool fire pits
Lots of lifeguards who were all seemingly attentive

Cons:
They ran out of bracelets at check in so had to carry a card on water slides like a regular hotel and not a waterpark hotel
We checked in early at about 2 and was advised that our room was not ready yet which was to be expected (since there is no guarantee until 4) but we were told we would get a text msg. I double checked the phone number that was left with the front desk clerk and about 50 min later, I went back to inquire if it was ready yet. I was advised by a diff front desk clerk that it had been ready for an hour which made no sense. I never received any text.
Few eating options esp breakfast (choices were either a buffet at $20 pp or “quick” counter which had a few subpar and pricey choices). We ending up dining out at Tilly’s diner in Monticello (Breakfast), and Brew (lunch) as well as BHR (dinner) in Rock Hill. Excellent options!
We did try Bixby Derby’s for dinner one night and food was good but beware that they charge differently from what’s posted on the menu. Grab a menu and show the waiter. Your meal could be a few bucks more than what was posted and they will change it (obviously) but please Kartrite, just change your system bc this is so wrong!
Arcade games were pricey which is to be expected but when they flat out stop shooting tickets, that’s just not right for the kids! And there isn’t anyone working the floor to have them fix the machine.
Very loud at night. We were one of the last rooms down the hall but could still feel the bass coming from the waterpark which was the opposite side of the hotel at night.

Overall my kids had fun bc they could sleep with noise and didn’t deal with the front desk or worry about money. But Kartrite, talk to GWL or Kalahari and study their operations. They aren’t perfect Either but they def run a much better waterpark hotel!

Hi Cindy, We love knowing you and your young family so enjoyed our waterpark amenities, going from indoors to outdoors in our warm pool and benefiting from our design, which, as you noted, works smoothly even when we're at capacity. We're glad your little ones made use of our many complimentary activities and that you all enjoyed our fire pits! We know we have some kinks to work out regarding our check-in system, and we value your helpful input. We're glad you found dining options locally to suit you and we know we can offer an even smoother stay next time you visit. Cheers, david kohlasch, general manager

But still needs to work out the kinks .

Junior suite double queen room
Rooms are clean and still in good condition since this is a new location . I wish they did a little more planning though . Sinks are too high for kids to reach themselves. Beds are very comfy but , again, super high both myself and my friend were concerned our girls would get seriously hurt if they rolled off . The 5 year old loved sleeping on the pull out couch . Even with the odd height design elements the room was super spacious even with the sleeper sofa out . They have shampoo, conditioner and body wash in large bottles in the bathroom . A line to dry your bathing suites can be extended in the tub which was awesome . Guests services was quick to respond when we requested more towels . I am super environmentally friendly but certain accommodations need to be made for a 'family ' resort , specifically diaper pales in the rooms if you are not going to line any of the trash baskets .
It is loud ! It's like elephants where running around all night ! They shouldn't have skimped on sound proofing .
We checked in on a Tuesday . The buffet we budgeted to take the kids too was closed so we left the property and went to Burger King as the prices are super inflated , as expected .
We had quick breakfast sandwiches made at the high line cafe and they were just regular sandwiches , nothing to write home about .bottles of water were $3-4 each , sandwiches $5 and up , as a pricing example .
It was super cool to be able to use the water park on the day of the check out .
The water park is nice ! The lockers you can rent are deceptive . I thought they were really small but when you open them they are very spacious . My friend and I split a large locker and we got a carryon size bag and a large beach bag in there . You don't need a key to access the locker either , you create a pin for it and you can go in and out all day .
I will definitely go back for a quick family trip .

The property is clean and easy to get around. Water park is small but very manageable. Arcade is geared to younger children and lacks games for tweens and up. It’s great you can use the water park day of check in. Check in at 4:00 and you get a text when your room is ready. We never got a text. That said, tthe per night cost and high resort fee, there were basic things lacking that just don’t justify the price (e.g., long hair on the shower floor, dirt around the sink handle, no bar of soap at the sink and only soap pumps in the shower, two bath towels in a room for 3, etc.) we were a large group and the restaurant could not accommodate us and suggested we take our food to go or eat in our rooms. All while the extremely large buffet area was empty. This place is est for small families with young children who don’t notice details.

As far as waterpark destinations go, we found the Kartrite cleaner, more modern, stylish, and all around friendlier than it's competition. Although the waterpark and arcade are definitely smaller (and less overwhelming!) our 10 and 11 years old kids found plenty to keep them happy and busy. The waterpark itself is clean, bright, upbeat, with lots of lush foliage and fully staffed with watchful lifeguards. While we went during a busy holiday break period, and the resort was full, the lines were never too long. An added bonus is that the Kartrite has nicely designed areas where parents can sit, enjoy a drink, and relax while keeping a relatively close eye on the kids. No one goes to waterparks for the food but we did have some bright spots to dining (very fresh fruit at breakfast, yummy crab dip for dinner, and a decent pizza for lunch). They are working out the kinks with service (can be slow, no spoons readily available for breakfast, etc.) but overall, the Kartrite exceeded my expectations of a waterpark destination. We'll be back!

I want to start off by saying that we did come here on what was most likely the busiest week of the year. But still, being a family friendly resort you HAVE to know and anticipate that you'll be busy over school breaks and holidays. Maybe this place is ok on a random weeknight when it's not booked to capacity, but we did not have a pleasant experience at all last week.

That being said, we stayed here for 2 nights. The positives were that my son loved the water park itself; he's 4 and a half and I felt like there was more to do here for his age group than at the other water parks that have a lot more of the huge attractions, pools and slides that he can't go on yet. The room itself was also nice. The decor is modern and the beds were comfortable enough.

Ok for the negatives, and this is where I feel like they didn't consider basic logistics. 1) How do you only have 3 elevators? We waited forever at times for an elevator to come AND have room for us; I lost track of how many times it stopped and we had to wait for the next one.
2) Only 2 restaurants and a buffet?? How are those the only food options? The wait times were insane it was impossible to make a reservation at Bixby's. We were there Weds-Friday, we started calling Wednesday afternoon for a reservation at Bixby's for Thursday evening and in 2 days no one ever answered the phone. I looked up the hours and saw that they opened at 5pm for dinner, so we arrived at 5:03 Thursday trying to get a table. We were turned away by the host, who said "sorry we're fully committed for tonight." The restaurant was completely empty, and we were the only people there at the moment (it's not like Bixby's was suddenly flooded with guests with 5pm or 5:30pm reservations). We ended up LEAVING and going to eat at the casino down the street. The same host gave my brother in law an attitude when we got back from the casino to find that the restaurant still wasn't full. I have to say I think it was Claudia who took our complaint, profusely apologized and gave us a bottle of wine for the trouble, and she was wonderful.
3) Understaffed. Again this goes back to being unprepared and not anticipating being busy during a holiday week. The Highline was where we got breakfast Thursday and Friday (because the buffet is the only other option), and you could tell the staff were SWAMPED. The cashier said herself, "we were not prepared for this, look at this line. If people want coffee go get it downstairs." I've worked in a restaurant for 10 years, even if you feel this way you never verbalize that to patrons. It makes the entire place look bad, even if you're right. They had run out of most of the breakfast sandwich options as well. The grill in the waterpark for lunch would get super backed up too. How do you not think you need more than one option for lunch in the waterpark?
4) Housekeeping. Our room never got cleaned. We were traveling with an infant and were in the room a bit throughout the day, but we stopped Housekeeping staff in the halls to let them know that we'd be out of the room so it could be cleaned, and it never was. We ended up just getting extra towels so we could shower.

They were more concerned with witty signs on the walls than making sure the place could function and serve its guests at max capacity

Hello 230annamarieg, We're glad you joined us with your four-year-old and are gratified to know you found so much for him to do in our waterpark. We know it can be challenging to visit on a very busy holiday week, and we take your feedback to heart in order to ensure that next time, our team can fully meet our many guests' needs. We share in your frustration that you and your family were unable to be seated at Bixby's, and we'll be sure to share your kind words with Claudia, who is indeed a gem. We look forward to being able to fully meet all your needs next time, showcasing the guest service we strive for here at the kartrite, and to that end, hope to see you and your family again one day to better impress. My family and I went to Kartrite to celebrate my son’s 1st birthday. Here’s what we found:
Pros
1. Only 40 minutes from where we live, easy drive
2. Since the resort is relatively new, it looks nice!
3. The water park though small is nice for children
4. The food at the resort was pretty above average (pizza, burgers, rotisserie chicken etc.)

Cons
1. Check in time is 5 pm and check out is 10 am, both ridiculous. It makes checking in and checking out process very time consuming, especially with little children.
2. Even though it’s a relatively new facility, the cleaning crew does not do a good job at cleaning, especially the rooms and bathrooms.
3. The service is poor all across. At any given time, the place seems under staffed no matter where you go. The staff seems undertrained, overwhelmed, anxious and some times even care worn.
4. The wait time for any food place is ridiculously long, and the food takes forever to come out.
5. The s’mores kits are nothing like they advertise. Bring your own s’mores kit.
6. The temperature inside the water park is cold.
7. Lazy river has only few floating tubes.
8. The bedding and mattress are not comfortable, considering the amount you’re paying you’d expect at least average comfort if not more. The comforters are very thin and the pillows are not comfy, mattress are on the harder side.

Overall, our little one enjoyed his birthday in the waterpark, however, the service needs a massive improvement!!!

this is a manageable size waterpark with a nice selection of splash areas and slide. The lifeguards go above and beyond to ensure that everyone is safe and they are so helpful with young children. The only drawback is the very small/hot tub pool which is packed even during slow days because it is the only place for adults to be in the water.
The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. Be aware, the room is one price but your taxes and fees will add well over $100 more to each night. Lastly, the restaurants need improvement with the service aspect. Things were slow- especially for the breakfast buffet and also trying to get a table for late lunch- only the 1 small restaurant was open and had a long wait. Lastly they have nice fire pits outside- bring your own s'more fixings. If you buy them there its $7 to make 11/2 s'mores and the fixings are not good. All in all, it was a nice experience

We had such a great time at Kartrite. Luckily we were able to check in early which was amazing because it gave our son a chance to nap. The staff there is unbelievable. The lifeguards were very focused on their job and interacted with the guests. Everyone was so kind. It made are stay that much more enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

I wish there was a map and details and the activities in the room. We weren't sure what was available to do at some of the locations. I think it would also help if guests could put a sign on their door when they check out so they could start cleaning the rooms earlier.

On a positive note, the resort was very clean and tidy. Our rooms were well taken care of and all amenities were clean and kept up with. The rope climbing adventure was pretty cool and the kids had a great time in the Waterpark. However, there are some issues that we encountered and feel truly that we would most likely not return. We are a family of five and travel often. After researching my husband found a great package that you were offering that would satisfy the purpose of our trip. This was the ski and splash package in which we paid a lot of money for a three night stay. A month after booking we received an email that the checkin policy was changed and that checkin would now be at five with hopes of getting us in the room earlier. We arrived at the resort at 11:00 am and knew we would have the ability to utilize the Waterpark, in which we did that day. The following two days our plans was to take advantage of the slopes package as the advertisement showed a great beginner mountain with tubing and skiing activities and only five minutes away. The first issue we encountered was checkin as we were guaranteed to be in our room by 5. Five o’clock came and went and we did not receive a text or phone call with our room information. My sister traveled with us and they checked in three hours after us and had their room prior to us. By 5:45 I inquired at the desk and was told “oh your room is available”. Without inquiring we would have never known and having three young children getting in a room that late is just unacceptable and a hardship for parents. Next issue was the Mountain in which the resort is affiliated with for the package. When we drove to Holiday Mountain we were beyond disappointed and frankly appalled with what we saw. We are aware that there is no control of the weather, but the entire mountain was mud and none of the beginner trails were even open which is why we chose the package. As far as the tubing, the entire set up seemed unsafe and hardly something that appeared to be a fun time. With that being said, we did not even entertain holiday mountain as my children were unable to ski. Instead the next two days we drove to two other mountains which were over an hour away from the resort each way and additional expenses on lift tickets for everyone. Due to the travel times involved we were then unable to use the amenities at the resort. So a trip that cost us a mini fortune to begin with now became much more and we didn’t get to utilize what the package offered to the fullest extent. We did speak with concierge in regard to the issues at hand, they were kind enough to issue a courtesy arcade card for each child. This courtesy was better than nothing but the entire trip which we were looking forward to turned out to be disappointing and very expensive. Further investigation should go into marketing with a place that was so antiquated.

Upon our arrival to the establishment we were greeted at the front desk by a young lady named Claudia. Claudia was professional and knowledgeable, her smile was so welcoming and a great way to start our over night adventure. We arrived earlier than the designated check in time in order to use the facility, I read previous reviews before booking and was apprehensive but I found the checkin and check out process very straight forward and easy. We found the room to be clean and very accommodating for families. There was a microwave, fridge and even a line to hang wet bathing suits. The hotel provided towels for bathing and swimming. There were many choices for eating. We found the food to be very reasonably priced, tasty and fresh. Pops had the best desserts and was the place to get s'mores material, the young lady working on 1/29/2020 (sorry I didnt get her name) was awesome, she made sure we had a great experience roasting marshmallows. The swimming area appeared small but was so much larger than it appeared. The place was clean, warm and friendly. The lifeguards never sat still. The young lady in the wave pool went above and beyond to pull myself and my 2 year old into the wave pool on the tube and hold it while we got out. Ty at the flow rider was an excellent teacher who made the experience so much fun. The Kartrite provided activities through out the day for the kids at no additional cost. They played movies in the lobby throughout the day that kids of all ages liked, plus had games like connect four and jenga. We loved that it had a smaller feel but didnt lack any activity or fun. We will definitely be going back. And thanks to Claudia for setting the tone for an amazing get away.

The food was quite honestly perfect especially when you are with children - plenty of options. However - a local breakfast recommendation would be Miss Monticello Diner - great service and great diner food - very clean.

Yes they requested guests wear masks. In the water park its almost impossible to wear. But in the hotel, dining area, and arcade its very much encouraged.
