A nice and peaceful place to sleep for one or several nights. The hosts are friendly, accommodating and helpful in suggesting local gardens and restaurants.
This is an older country house that has modern amenities: each room has adjustable AC and a walk- in shower.
Each room has a different decor and is furnished with period antiques from Italy. The room has a printed list of the origin and style of each piece.
I was in the Rococo room which featured paintings, antiques and burgundy tones from that period.
Some reviewers complain about noise from the road and I did not encounter this.
I will say this : make sure your driving directions or Mapquest is Very Good because it’s easy to drive by the house and I actually had to backtrack twice to find it.
Aside from that, you will be relaxed when you leave.

This small b&b is nicely appointed with a very accommodating owner. The breakfasts were tasty and made with care. There was road noise from Sharon Turnpike in our room that had windows facing the road. But, overnight the room was very quiet. It is a 15 minute walk to Millbrook's shopping and dining. For us this was a family trip, but the property is suited for adults. All the guest rooms are on the second floor, requiring a climb on a stair.

We made our way home from a magical overnight stay at the Millbrook Country House counting ourselves as beyond lucky to have found it, with a spur of the moment, quickly planned and unexpected opportunity for the short getaway. The choice would have been fortuitous if only for the chance to meet the extraordinary couple who own and run MCH, Lorraine and Giancarlo. They were not only extremely gracious, kind and generous in a multitude of ways, but they were each tremendously interesting, gifted individuals. We have not before had the experience of finding B&B proprietors themselves so delightful and such a great privilege to meet. Not altogether surprisingly, the beauty of their spirits and vision was everywhere evident at Millbrook Country House – in the distinctive, lovely antique Italian furnishings and décor, in the gorgeous and thoughtful renovation work to the historic home, their delicious, perfect breakfasts, and most exultantly, across the expanses of their magnificent, joyous gardens. Apart from the deep pleasure of conversation with each of them, and our bright, gorgeous room, our trip was made so powerfully wonderful and memorable by key recommendations made by email by Lorraine, incredibly taking time to very personally respond in detail to our message with description of hoped for activities, and thoughts about our planning, prioritization and preparation process. We sought a hike, and were directed to the trails of the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies five minutes down the road. We found the great and varied natural beauty we’d hoped to be immersed in right there, and on the holiday weekend, without a single other person ever in sight or in hearing. Most especially, the nearby Innisfree Garden will remain a lifelong cherished memory, and we’re committed to getting back there and to the MCH whenever it could next be possible.

While the host tried to be accommodating, it felt like we staying at a friends’ elderly parents’ home vs paying $250 a night. When we asked for ice, we got a small bowl with 6 cubes. When we took a bottle of wine and some cheese to the garden the owner fired up his loud tractor to mow, at 3:30 in the afternoon. The wine glasses were not clean. We (and other guests, too) had to practically beg for coffee and it was offered with 2% milk, no cream as is typical in this country. Breakfast was very, very meager. One toast with one egg, herbs and tomato feels like I’m visiting a diet camp. Heavy down comforter too much for July, but we felt we didn’t want to create extra work for the owner and brought a blanket in from our car. Feeling as though we are imposing when we are paying guests is awkward and uncomfortable. Sadly, I would NOT recommend this lovely B&B ina good location.

Took my boyfriend here for his 40th birthday as he said he just wanted something relaxing. Thankfully the weather cooperated and we found ourselves enjoying the sun on their outdoor patio furniture near the outdoor gardens on a blissful, sunny Sept weekend.

The owners are super super friendly - I enjoyed chatting with them very much. They were also happy to make suggestions for what to do and where to eat. There were a few other people staying there, while we were there and they were super friendly. I felt very safe & secure the whole time.

It was very lovely sitting out by the garden and enjoying a bottle of wine before we went to the vineyard (8 min drive). We also checked out the cute little down (10 min drive), which has a few shops and restaurants.

The room where we slept was really nice, very historic, but whew that bed was tough to sleep in! It's an older bed with an older mattress & we should have asked for more pillows!

For breakfast we had some ricotta with cooked apples and some toast with an egg over easy. It was okay, I did think they might give us a bit more, but fine for what it was. The coffee wasn't great, but my tea was very good. It sort of felt like I was staying at my grandparents house - which was kinda cute. Very historic. I should also mention, they do have two cats, who are very friendly, but could be problematic if you are allergic!

Overall we did very much enjoy our time and I would happily recommend this place, just a few minor tweaks I would suggest!

Millbrook Country House is a typical small (four bedroom) BnB. There was a fair amount of road noise in our room facing the road. I suggest asking for the quietest room. We were told a weekday rate and were charged more than the quote, but didn't bother to quibble. We never saw Lorraine, but Giancarlo was friendly and unobtrusive. Breakfast was light but very good. It is quick walk to Millbrook, which is a lovely little village. If you are there on a Tuesday night be aware that most of the very nice restaurants are closed. However the Millbrook Inn was open and very nice.

I have been going to bed and breakfasts for nearly 20 years, and I was extremely disappointed with Millbrook Country House. The Inn is close to the road, and there is a lot of traffic noise. The hallway was dark at night, and I had to turn on the lights for the hall to find my upstairs bedroom. The Inn is also very cold and not very comfortable. I and some of the other guests found the parlors and dining room cold and drafty. The breakfasts were suprisingly skimpy and the food not particularly good. For comfort, ambiance, and food, I would explore many of the other bed and breakfasts in the Hudson River Valley.

We have 5 heating zones and would have been glad to adjust downstairs temps for this guest; we always keep halls, stairs, and parlors lit with ceiling and table lights till all guests return at night; and our breakfasts are not huge but freshly made, with attention to taste, nutrition, and presentation. None of this guest's criticisms was made to us directly during her 3-day stay. We pride ourselves on personalized service, and so this review was a shock. She had a dispute with a restaurant in a nearby town, one of several we routinely recommend to guests, & I sympathized but declined to intervene to help with a refund of her meal. We are sorry for her discomfort on every level but feel her unhappiness could have been dealt with in a more effective and satisfying way for all concerned.

We stayed with Lorraine and Giancarlo for a long weekend last fall and they were wonderful hosts—we enjoyed great food, their beautiful garden, and a lovely room decorated with antique furniture. Lots of great books, too! Their home is convenient to both downtown Millbrook and local attractions (we particularly enjoyed Innisfree). Can't imagine staying anywhere else in the area.

Well...the place is decent...decent in the sense - there is no dirty laundry...the rooms are clean and the rooms are furnished beautifully
If you are heading out to this area and need a place to crash then this would work
If you are going with someone you want to spend quality time with - I would STRONGLY advise you NOT to stay at this place.
So I went with a friend on Valentine Day, thinking its a beautiful venetian themed place with home cooked breakfast, afternoon tea by the fireplace and beautiful rooms - sounds just about right for someone looking to spend a relaxing weekend right? BIG MISTAKE
The rooms are situated alongside busy roads so you can hear traffic ALL night long....We went down for breakfast, which was fine, but the owner - Lorraine - came and sat down with us FOR AN HOUR! She went on and on and on about her life and experiences and I literally felt suffocated in my comfortable breakfast time!
Well then the afternoon tea. I was very pleased not to see Lorraine around and sat down for tea and pie (which btw was delicious)....but ofcourse....20 min go by and there comes Lorraine...she sat by the fireplace for 2 HOURS!!!! I left in the middle to take a nap!
She is an interesting woman and if you are visiting this place for a new experience or to meet new people, then this might just work for you, but if you are interested in a nice, quiet, quality weekend with someone, then this is the last place I would recommend anyone

The only reason I am not giving this place a 3 is for the Italian owner who worked relentlessly to serve us breakfast and tea

And yes...did I mention...no food and drinks in the room! eh....I am not going back!

The playwright William Congreve famously warned us about the fury of a woman scorned, esp. one with an attack mouse, I will add. This fit of pique posing as a review makes me think there should be a subset of Murphy’s Law: “If something is about to go wrong, you probably saw it coming.” In numerous emails Vidushi asked that I buy Valentine’s gifts for her boyfriend—call him D—a rose, chocolates, a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, to be set out, she specified, in their room, with candles, awaiting their arrival. She also provided the text of a note she wanted me to write from her to D. We began to feel uneasy. I’d sent V our extensive list of recommended restaurants, offering as usual to make reservations, but V wanted me actually to select the restaurant: “someplace romantic and intimate with very good decor, good wine, and good food. Not too noisy and very cozy.” As for breakfast, “Can you send me a sample menu so that I can make sure there is stuff in it that [D] likes?” I emailed V a few examples of breakfast stuff and, despite bad weather, went shopping for her. I declined to write the note or choose the restaurant. Mistake? V and D got lost on the way here, arriving late and missing entirely the mise-en-scene awaiting them...in the parlor. (Yes, we do discourage the risky pairing of red wine and Frette linens.) When they came down to breakfast, long after our other guests had finished, I asked if they needed any help with their day’s plans. D was affable and interested, while V was less so. Her mood did not improve when our (undoubtedly irritating) conversation revealed that she’d booked a restaurant for that night’s dinner that was 1 1/2 hours‘ drive back toward New York. The idea of a 3-hour roundtrip in bad weather in the dark did not thrill D. Alas, again, for poor Vidushi, as we all learned at teatime, they missed a program she’d booked at our local winery when their front-wheel-drive car failed to climb a steep, icy hill. D seemed unfazed, but V was sulking in a corner of a sofa. She soon left for their room upstairs, while D remained. The next morning D, friendly as ever, had breakfast alone. At the end of their stay, V disappeared—no good-bye, no thank you, no reimbursement of the $50+ I’d spent on her behalf, obliging D to go out to the car to ask her for the promised cash. Another V misstep: My husband, aka “the Italian owner,” is not at all averse to serving breakfast and tea, “relentlessly” or otherwise. Given my poor coordination due to progressive ms, I no longer carry dishes of food or pots of hot tea. What was really going on with HRH Vidushi? She was having a weekend-long tantrum, or a hissy fit as a friend of mine from North Carolina likes to say. She’d have been happier renting a cabin in the woods—but then who would have run her errands? It seemed obvious to us that her meticulously choreographed weekend had fallen flat, for reasons that had nothing to do with a car speeding on a two-lane country road in the middle of the night or extended teatime conversation on a winter afternoon—she missed some great stories, btw, from a Norwegian graphic designer’s account of acquiring a herd of sheep to a Westchester couple’s game-preserve holiday in South Africa. Too bad.

Everything is very nice here. The rooms are of a nice size and nicely appointed. We had a room that did not have a private bathroom. The breakfast was rather meager. I didn't care for my personal effects being moved. I had placed things in a certain way, I didn't expect that anything would be disturbed other than someone making the bed. Other than that we were satisfied with our stay. Almost forgot the bed was hard as a rock, so it you like a super firm mattress then your in luck.

All four of our rooms have private bathrooms; this person must have stayed in the Varigotti Room, however, the bathroom for which is right next door to the guest room, only a few steps away and for that room only. This is clearly stated on the website. Our twice-daily housekeeping is fairly thorough, and if we find clothing strewn about and a general mess in the room, we do straighten up, hang up clothing, etc., though we never go into anyone's bags, which we would consider an invasion of privacy. Breakfast is two courses, reasonable portions (as opposed to super-sized), which most guests go out of their way to say they appreciate. Different strokes?
