Roca Abade is without charme and totally overpriced . That's what you get for 70€ plus tax: an A/C room of maybe 8 sqm with wooden walls (noisy) without TV, wardrobe, chair or table, the bathroom on the other side of the floor without mirror, soap and shampoo. The temperature function of the A/C was defect. It was ice cold even if you switch it on 24C. Lunch or dinner (15€) is fish or chicken, so well prepared in local style is not cheap as well as the Rosema beer for 2 €. The dirty beach of Abade village and the small Salgada beach are near , the better beach is an one hour walk away. The internet is not stable and has a better signal from the upper floor. Manager and staff are friendly.
The rooms in the old house are simple, some with en-suite bathrooms and AC, but nicely decorated. The place reminds me a bit of a mountain hut. From the balcony you have a view of the bay, mountains and forest. The owner is eager to improve his services and is also happy to provide you with tips what to do on the island. Currently he is building a bungalow with three new rooms which I assume will be really nice when finished. The food is excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. A place to relax!
We stayed a couple of nights in Bom Bom and then came here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rooms at the front of the house have a great view and there's a very pleasant atmosphere which allows you to get a feel for life on the island. Food is good, traditional and helpings are generous. Transport can be arranged and is not much more difficult than on the rest of the island. Generally, it's not easy nor cheap to move around the island. Prices are good relative to other options. If you are open minded, interested in getting a feel for rural Príncipe, this is the place to stay. We loved it!
If you are a person with a "normal "budget and you cannot afford the Bom Bom island and Roca BeloMonte resorts prices you have not so many alternatives in Principe......one of these is Roca Abade. Carlos and his team are restoring an old roca with chiaroscuro results. The staff is really nice the food is ok but the rooms......they are really bad. This is not a problem for me....I've slept in much more worse places than this but, sorry, If I pay an european price I ask for european standard (one night in Roca Abade is exactly one month income for a Saotomese worker!!). Another big problem is that this Roca is far away from all....so if you want to go to visit the wonderful beaches in the northern part of the island you have to pay a lot for the transports so I don't think to have saved so much money instead to be in a luxury resort.....…
the owner is a very nice guy, he has a job in the city. the people working there are also nice very nice and kind, in general like all Saotomenians". The problem I have with this place is the price. the location is 2 hous walking form the city or 10-15 euros by taxi. The nearest beaches, Salgada, Abade and an other small ones, even if nice ....are not the kind of beaches you travel 8000 Km to and they are still 30 min walking away..so to reach Paradise in Banana beach or the others around it is quite a ride...and some extra money, around 20-30 euros depending on your choise (taximotorcycle, taxicar or rent a bicycle). If you want to eat out, again u need to add 10-15 euros to whatever you would pay in the city to reach it or eat in the Hotel itself...Tthe food is ok, tasty and good portions but for 15 euros without drinks i ate better in other places. When i arrived water and electricity as well as internet were experinecing some significant downtime. All in all, the place is clean and nice, but extremely basic so If they can't halfen prices in near future i would find a more expencive place but in a more central location. Breakfast is abondant, clean towel and big rooms but extremely basic. no warm water...I needed to ask for a fan that they had to take from an other room, so i assume they don't have one in each room. internet is not there all the time, only in the evening if you ask for it.…
