Unfortunately we only spent one night here but loved it very much! Frikkie and Hilde are the perfect hosts and there are so many things that make you feel right at home: a handwritten welcome card, lovely and very clean rooms, many things to see and explore at the lodge. There was a storm while we were there and staff...

Excellent lodge to stay and explore surroundings. Very good hostess that treat you you like an old friend. Best food we had in a long time with excellent restaurant setting overlooking the riverbed. Only negative is that there are no air conditioning in the rooms which I believe is a must over summer months in Namibia.

We spent 4 nights here in the wilderness and had an amazing time. Owners Frikkie and Hilde and all the staff are so lovely. Breakfasts were fantastic, we also ate in the evenings here as nowhere else close by. Food was always presented beautifully, and home cooked so tasted amazing, and very reasonably priced. Went on a sunset drive in...

What a wonderful find! It isn't often that you find a place as lovely as Alte Kalkofen. We stopped over for a night on our way through to ludaritz and wished we had planned another night at least. Great hospitality, delicious meals, a very rare attention to detail, and a wonderful quirkiness. Frikkie and Hilda are great hosts and were...

As a frequent visitor to this beautiful lodge, I realised that a review was long overdue. I was totally shocked to see a poor review but quickly realised that the contributor has never given an excellent review to any lodge, despite being so well travelled? We love the view from the bungalows, the open space, the peace, the tranquility and...

A banker and his wife from Windhoek decided to spent their retirement at the countryside. The bought the farm, had an architect rebuild the infrastructures, did all the decorations at the inside themselves with artifacts they found on the ground. The lodge is solar powered, not self-sustaining but trying to, they will start their own vegetable garden next year. The...

First night out of Windhoek, easy drive. Super location and with interesting walks with the chance to see some wildlife and plants to see. Rooms are really good and food for dinner and breakfast is right on the mark. A great introduction to the edge of the wilderness just before diving into the Dirt roads proper. Take the chance to...

My personal opinion does not offer any room for interpretation and fantasy. Our stay there was fantastic. The staff is very friendly and the lodge itself is a lovely piece of architecture. And I think, the dinner was one of the best in Namibia.

The reviews in the local press and on Tripadvisor made us choose Alte Kalkofen to spend our 40th wedding anniversary - and we'll hopefully be back before our 41st wedding anniversary. What a gem. Friendly and well trained staff, most charming owner-managers, crisp white linen and towels, tastefully renovated farmstyle accommodation with only the best, very good food and a...

We weren't sure why we were booked into Alte Kaukofen - we could have driven further that day. But it was great. Frikkie and Hilda were lovely and Hilda's cooking is amazing. We went for a walk around the property (nice to get out of the car and stretch our legs) and generally chilled. Dinner (the main course was self...
