This is the problem with this otherwise nice country. The economy is so depressed that everything else is depressive. This hotel is in what should be a perfect location: sea-front, close to the place where boats to the islands leave, close to the old city. Oh dear - what a sad place. In the first room we were given there was water on the bathroom floor, and the bathroom smelled of stagnant water. The second room had no hot water, the overhead light didn't work, the mosquito net was too short to tuck in properly. The bedroom was clean, though dilapidated. I'm glad I'm shortsighted...

The Red Sea Hotel is the only hotel open in Massawa. While other hotels are standing empty in Massawa, the small nuymber of tourists means they cannot afford to open and stand mothballed. The Red Sea Hotel was clean. My room had air conditioning, hot water and a fully working toilet. The water pressure was not great in the shower,...

Hard to recommend this place without having seen other hotels for comparison. Best thing going for it is that rooms have a fan and adequate air conditioning. No hot water though, poor water pressure, and a generally run down atmosphere.
