This place is falling apart and I wonder sincerely if it is getting ready to close. We booked a suite with a pull out sofa and rollaway. We put some cheese and other perishable food in the small refrigerator. Found out the hard way it didn't work. Everything spoiled by morning. A good number of outlets didn't work. Light switch button by front door fell off, door handle to balcony was literally on floor and could not be put back on, rendering the balcony we paid extra for completely worthless. was dirty with moss growing out of it anyway. Robe/towel hook was dangling off the bathroom door. Shower dripped so badly, it caused a gross-looking brown discoloration on the tub, so obviously had been like that a long time. Hotel claimed they had ordered a replacement tub and were waiting for its arrival. Waiting for at least a year, I'd say! The pull-out sofa was so worn, you could feel every spring jabbing into you. Had to ask for an extra comforter for padding, it was so uncomfortable for my young teen daughter. You must request housekeeping in advance. We did (the night before) and still didn't get it. We returned after a long day of visiting and sight-seeing with our college student and the room was still a mess. We called and were told housekeeping had left for the day! Turns out a couple of them live there and after speaking to a manager they were able to clean. The thermostat -- Lord only knows what it controls. A room at another hotel maybe? The staff were a little too casual. No uniforms, no nametags. Manager did magnanimously buy us a round of drinks (one wine, one beer and 2 sprites), but I had to ask. The server at the restaurant was friendly and the only real bright spot of our stay. Later that night, the gal working the front desk told me they were out of waters when I asked for water around 10 p.m. Said restaurant had closed so she couldn't get it there either. There were vending machines. The waters were $2.50. I only came down with my room key. I asked front desk female if she could give me the $2.50 then charge me for it on my hotel bill. She said she wasn't allowed, just shrugged and said there was nothing she could do. How do you run out of water?? If all else fails, send an employee to CVS to buy a couple of cases when you realize you are running low! One benefit to this hotel. It has its own surface lot. Most of the other hotels in town send you to a sketchy multi-level parking deck downtown.

This is a rough one for me. The staff at this hotel is AMAZING! Some of the best I have ever come across in my years of traveling. However... The hotel itself is tired and worn out. A renovation, of the rooms especially, is very badly needed. The room we were in had worn out furniture and the bathroom actually had some missing tiles. It was very clean (staff part of the review) but worn out. For the price paid, we could have done better and we will when we get to the area, next trip. An incredible staff only goes so far. You could tell this was an impressive place "back in the day" but some work is badly needed to bring it back.

Electrical outlets don't work (one out of four is functional), thermostat has no relationship to the temperature of the room (as the room gets colder, the thermostat reading goes up), the wifi does not work (had to use my laptop hotspot to get online). I was recently in Kathmandu, Nepal and the wifi and electricity were both better there.

Nice hotel, close to the town. Staff were good. Rooms clean and spacious. The only down side of this place is the town itself, the Main Street ‘the common’ has some nice shops, rather expensive, but nice. Unfortunately there are many aggressive beggars, homeless people and drug taking individuals.

Very good hotel and great location. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the staff are excellent. They have an airport shuttle and free parking. So much is available nearby in terms of shopping and food... lots of restaurants with all kinds of cuisines in the near vicinity of the hotel.

We stayed at The Hotel Ithaca a week ago. I’ve stayed at many hotels in this price range (around $300 on the weekend) for business that were nicer and I’d rate this hotel average. PROS • Convenient location to the Ithaca Commons, an outdoor area with stores and (a few) restaurants, Lake Cayuga, and Lake Seneca • Close to a Wegmans, Chipotle, Panera, etc. Not walking distance but a few minutes away • Accommodating staff was very nice • Restaurant (more on that in cons) • On-site parking • Quiet in the north tower where we stayed—could not hear people in other rooms • Decent gym • Comfortable beds CONS • Hotel is a bit worn, in need of carpet cleaning, replacement, and painting • Hotel not very clean in general, and I saw no cleaning staff vacuuming anywhere on the premises • Entrance area from the side parking lot offensively hot and stuffy • Non-functioning pool • You must call every morning for maid service (making beds, fresh towels, etc). The first day they did not come, we called again, and they came after 5pm • First morning at the restaurant (Sunday), had a normal breakfast, which was fine. Second day was a buffet breakfast, which was absolutely sub-par. Service sub-par as well. We did not eat there after that and had no other meals there • Ithaca has defunded their police. This is not a political statement. They have about 4 police officers for the entire town. We did not see one police officer or police car in 3 full days there, and there are some shady areas of town (there are homeless people near the hotel and/or on the premises). I don’t know what they’re thinking. This is NOT a hotel issue, but something to be aware of Summary: You might be better off with a lower-priced national hotel chain and some serve breakfast for free. Paying extra money to stay here not worth it in my experience. Regardless, please do leave a tip for the cleaning staff, who deserve and need it.

In most respects the Hotel Ithaca is a very nice place to stay. The room was comfortable, the bedding adequate, and the bathroom well appointed. It is super convenient to downtown Ithaca and its very impressive Ithaca Commons, a pedestrian-only street with shops and restaurants. I would recommend the hotel, with several qualifications: There was an ice bucket, but no glasses, when we arrived, a minor matter, but irritating; the pool is listed as "closed for maintenance, but it seems to have been that way since we first started looking at the hotel earlier this year; and the hotel's "service on demand" policy is greatly annoying. You must arrange for towels, linen, bed making, and cleanup each day of your stay; if you don't arrange it, you don't get it. I'm perfectly happy to use towels for a couple of days to save water and energy, but having to arrange for fresh ones, or just a vacuuming of the room, every day is, in my view, over the top. Our bedding was not changed in three days, and it was a hassle getting fresh towels. Apart from this, the hotel is clean and well-appointed (china coffee cups and real glass drinking glasses would be more in accord with the hotel's rates), the staff are friendly and helpful, and parking is provided (it can be hard to find late in the evening, but there is a garage across the street, and the hotel validates).

Went decided to stay at the Hotel Ithaca because we were wine tasting in the Finger Lakes and had never stayed there. 4:00 was check in. At 4:00 our room was not ready, so we left with the understanding that the woman at the front desk would call us when our room was ready, We checked back at 4:30, our room was not ready. At 5:00 our room was STILL not ready. Called at 5:30 and the woman at the front desk put me on hold to check with the cleaning staff to see if the room was finally ready. It was, by this time we had had it and I told the front desk woman we would not be staying at the hotel and she informed me that we would still have to pay for the room! I asked to speak to a manager and there were none that could be reached. The woman at the front desk really didn't seem to care too much whether we had a reservation (we booked at least a week ahead) and she didn't seem to care that we didn't have a room. This really ruined our weekend, we were away for our anniversary. We had to cancel our dinner reservations as by the time we found another hotel, it was too late to get ready to go out to the special dinner we had planned for our anniversary. The next morning I called the hotel and finally got through to a manager, (After 3 phone calls, the first time she was in a meeting and the second time she was too busy getting reports done to come to the phone.) The hotel finally refunded our money, but the damage was done and the weekend ruined! We travel all the time and never had an experience like this! It was so disappointing!

When we were traveling through Ithaca, we decided to eat at the Cultivare Culinary Center, where students from Tompkins Cortland Community College receive restaurant training. Professional instructors run the restaurant with student assistance, and the center specializes in serving farm to plate fresh ingredients, which is indicative in the name of the restaurant. Cultivare is located on the corner of South Cayuga Street in a seven story brick building. Inside the brick pillars and walls continue, and are nicely accented by the herringbone wood floor. Some tables were of wood with upholstered chairs and other tables appeared to be of mottled stone with wooden chairs. There was also a long bar that had aluminum metal chairs with orange cushioned seats. Large picture windows lit the room during the day and dropped lights by night. My husband had the beef and prosciutto meatballs in a red sauce with burrata and Parmesan cheeses on fettucine with garlic bread. I had the black currant and orange glazed salmon over a rice trio with sautéed onions, yellow crookneck and zucchini squash. For dessert, we shared a Chai spiced Crème Brûlée, which had a good crack, the spices were there and it came with a pecan biscotti. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere very much, and should we come back to Ithaca, we would like to return and try other things on their seasonal menu. The place is closed on Mondays and only open until 9:00 p.m. on the other nights.
