Couldn’t have been worse from start to finish. We were there visiting my daughter at College. We simply wanted a good night sleep. 11:30PM a huge bus of kids rolls in and takes over the hotel. Loud noise and people bouncing off the walls all night. Had to call security. The same group was up early making tons of noise. Also has a cleaning lady try to bust into our room at 830AM while my wife was sleeping. If you are an adult- stay elsewhere.
We were planning to visit Ithaca and the Finger Lakes NY area and booked the Fairfield Inn and Suites to use as a base for the area. We loved the location as it was convenient to all the major roadways as well as family restaurants. However, we were disappointed in the hotel. There were dark stains on the rug in our room and black mold in the shower in a few areas. This property needs a serious overhaul. Needless to say, we checked out of this hotel early. Besides being a Marriott Bonvoy member, I am also a travel consultant with over 26 years experience who often recommends Marriott hotels to my clients. This is one Marriott hotel I will not recommend.
There were good and bad in our stay. Good: Nice staff, clean room, and quiet. We stayed toward the back so there was no noise from the road. Everything is only a 9 minute drive away. Bad: Slow internet, small tv, no hot breakfast items except coffee. Plus they don't pick up trash outside, so it just piles up and the trash cans are overflowing.
Granted this review is impacted by the fact it is based on a hotel stay during the pandemic in August 2030. Nevertheless, after making some allowances the hotel fell short. Check in was fine and we got a room upgrade and early checkin. The room appeared clean but then a pair of shades left on the floor, presumably by previous occupant, raised questions. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. A grab and go bag of bottled water (which we don’t use), apple and high sugar mini muffin was all that was offer. It’s not hard to also, safely and easily, offer items like cereal and oatmeal. And then we asked whether our room or hotel had a corkscrew to open a bottle and were advised they were all stolen and we could buy one free m local liquor store. What a cheek! We’ll be staying AirBnB from now if possible. Hotels and airlines will go extinct at this rate.…
Marriott's CEO has repeatedly emphasized that they serve the owners and not their guests and our recent experience certainly displays this attitude. Deteriorating conditions and service at Marriotts in general are exemplified by the Fairfield Inn in Ithaca but shared across many Marriott brands. No hot water this morning (making empty soap and shower gel dispensers irrelevant) and internet too slow and erratic to work, stream video or even access e-mail makes this Fairfield one to avoid. The problems are systemic and not something that are oversights or due to covid staff shortages.
Stayed here for two nights, and the place looked like it could use a good refresh. We were assigned a room that was adjacent to the elevator, entered the room to find the main entry/hall light was not working. WI-FI signal was very weak in the room, such that the only way to get a signal was to sit near the main door. Carpets could use a good cleaning - large black stain in front of the bed. Definitely not up to the Marriott standards.
Very disappointed. Waited ten minutes so the janitor could find someone to check us in. I’m a Platinum Elite Marriott member and no offer of upgrade or even free water bottle. Soup in the bathroom literally one inch x 1/2 inch. Never seen that before. Room was small but clean. TV was 27”. Very small by today’s standards. Shower had pump for shampoo/conditioner. I would not recommend this hotel..
We have stayed in a few Fairfield Inns across the country in the last couple of months. This one was the most disappointing. The hotel is run down. Carpeting in the common areas (including elevators) was dirty and worn. Our room carpeting needs a good shampooing and cleaning. The shower caulking is discolored and gross looking. The refrigerator had food from the previous occupant that had not been cleaned out. Amenities, like shampoo and conditioner, are cheap and smell bad. Towels are very threadbare. The free breakfast was okay but I was shocked to find pitchers of milk that everyone has to touch. What happened to their much - publicized “COVID precautions “? I will say that the staff we encountered was lovely and helpful. However, this Fairfield Inn is not one I would want to stay in again.…
This is why I stay at Hiltons. I don’t know when the last time management or anyone has walked through and looked at these rooms but they are in poor shape. There’s mold in the bathrooms, wallpaper peeling, and a terrible smell in the room I just couldn’t identify. I know with Covid things are limited but the complementary breakfast was just cereal. They could’ve done more.
A good location to investigate the Finger Lakes. We visited many locations and lakes from this point. Easy to get to the WGI race way to many wineries. Always very welcoming. Still doing grab and go for Breakfast. They have figured it out. New York has a high vaccination rate and masks were not required- but the staff wore mask for the comfort of the clients. Good follow up on requests. We felt safe to walk every AM.
