The hotel is quaint. The decor is Cornell centric. We had a large 2 bed room that had a sink, stovetop, microwave, and a little table for work. It is a techie room with automatic shades and a mini split AC unit. Unfortunately, our HVAC didn't work, so they gave us a space heater for the weekend. The common area has these cool draft system that allows customers to pour their own beer and wine. Note that during our stay, only red wine was available wine. There is no maid service. The beds are extremely comfortable.
This small hotel has a cute gimmick: the rooms are made up to look like a stereotypical dorm room. It's well done, and the rooms are generally clean and well-appointed, though very small (like dorm rooms, I guess). My issue was with the service and the amenities. Lots of what they advertise on the ground floor was shut down. And they designed the rooms to have the thermostat helpfully right by the bedside on the side wall, which is fine except it had a digital readout that kept me up all night. Unlike a digital clock, you couldn't turn it away or put something over it - it was stuck on the wall. Additionally, the pillows were way too thick and only came in one variety. Pretty bush league stuff. Also annoying is that I was very clear that I was coming late at night and they were just as clear that wouldn't be a problem and they'd leave my room key in a special lockbox with a code that they gave me. Well, on a winter's night, the code did not work and I was stuck outside. Luckily, a guest let me in and I called the number the hotel had helpfully given me in case of any problem - the guy answered and said he'd be right there, which he was in about 5 minutes. When he arrived, he checked to make sure I was correct about the code (which I was) but then seemed far more concerned with finding out who had let me into the lobby than in apologizing for leaving me out in the cold. He gave me a new key and was pleasant enough, but his reaction to a very annoying screwup (we had called twice to tell them I'd be coming in late) left a bad taste in my mouth. If you're visiting west or central campus, the location is great and the rooms are fine, but that's about it.…
Yes, the beer taps in the sitting room with fireplace did get my attention, but the cute, dorm style rooms were very nice. I still use a phone to arrange trips, not a tech guy, and the lass that answered was most helpful, and I opted for an extra day to see more of the area. Indeed, Beth and the owner, Robert, who lives there, treated me like family, and I had a very pleasant stay. I used to manage many restored homes, and this place equaled or exceeded my high standards, super clean, no frills, just right, and did I mention very reasonable price. My purpose was to interview a nearly 105 yr old WWII vet, and see the sights, which I did. Just a wonderful four day trip in so many ways, I hated to leave, but will be back for the vet's 105th birthday party in December !!!!!
Great place right on edge of Cornell campus. New construction, fun theme, well equipped. Microwave, frig, coffee maker, electric range, owls, mugs, silverware. All we needed. Also a very smart TV. Self-serve craft beer in the living room. All in all a great stay. Thanks!
I recently spent a night at the Dorm Hotel and I couldn’t have been happier. It is a boutique hotel which is steps from the Cornell campus and a short walk to Collegetown and its must do, CTB. As many others have mentioned, the concept is to recreate staying in your college dorm as a fully functional adult…while being clean and luxurious at the same time. It works flawlessly. I stayed in a Sophomore room with a queen bed. Super clean with plenty of space. Modern touches include automated thermostat and blinds, ceiling AC unit, and a large flat screen TV with screen casting. The wall decor, blankets and pillows are nostalgically decorated with Cornell memorabilia with even a Big Red Bag tossed in for good measure. The communal space on the ground floor features couches, a high top table, a large TV, a place to buy college staples like ramen, and the best feature of all, a self-pour beer and wine bar (pay by the ounce). There is also free coffee in the morning. Overall, this place is tough to beat and offers a terrific value for the experience. It’s a no brainer if you’re visiting Cornell and even the Ithaca area in general. I spoke with the Rob, the owner, a few times. Super nice guy who went out of his way to be helpful. I have no doubt this place will be extremely successful in the future. Best of luck!…
