Stayed for a week with my family. The rooms were spacious and done keeping the culture in mind. We had the beach view which was beautiful. It was kid friendly and the staff was really efficient from the word go. They arranged bookings, Halaal food and safari tours. Very courteous and efficient staff.

We stayed at The Makokola Retreat for 4 days following a safari in Zambia. The idea was for some R&R and this certainly had the right facilities for that. We stayed in one of their detached thatched bungalows - this was well equipped with tea & coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and safe. However it must be noted there is...

This resort is on Lake Malawi. The accommodation is in very spacious houses--2 bedrooms, very large bathroom, patio. Unfortunately no AC, only ceiling fan. Certain times of the year could be quite hot. Beautiful large pool, bar, and restaurant on the lake. Good service and food. Airstrip right next to the place, possible to fly in.

My partner and I spent 4 glorious nights at the Makokola Retreat in Dec last year and all I can say was that it was magical! From the second we arrived at the Retreat we were treated like VIPs. After the first night we were surprisingly upgraded to a suite chalet which was very spacious and had a great view....

This is a really stunning place. Close to nature in well looked after resort. Staff is so nice and helpful. Monkeys in well kept gardens, lovely food and pools. The spa was very worthwhile. The cabins were open on one wall, which made you feel in middle of nature. Competent and nice therapists. Malawi is a wonderful country, and you...

We spent the Christmas long weekend at Makokola and it was a lovely, lazy and pampered experience. Super friendly and efficient staff and good quality and variety of buffet choices. I'm vegetarian and was pleasantly surprised. Lovely clean beach and spacious pool area and generally beautiful surroundings. Only downside was the heat - our room had only a ceiling fan...

I adored this place. We checked out several of the other places nearby, but this one came out tops. The beach and pool areas were immaculate. Lush, well maintained gardens full of beautiful plants, trees, monkeys, squirrels and birds. The room was tastefully decorated, but beware of the mosquitos and other insects... No a/c but the fans were good, when...

It is not your ordinary hotel experience that you would expect in Malawi. The rooms are spacious (at least mine was very) but different from the ordinary run of the mill. From the tea/coffee making utensils, cups soap holders etc they all come in a very different packing. First day I could not find the shampoo because I expected it in...

We had a lovely weekend at the Makokola retreat. We stayed in both the garden rooms (less expensive) and the villas (more expensive)! The garden room were spacious, but the bathroom was small with a small shower. You will need to let the water run for about 5-10 minutes before it warms up, but we liked the tiles in the...

In August I stayed with a fiend for two nights at the Makokola Retreat and it was definitely a highlight of our Malawi trip. By entering through the gate you leave behind dusty roads and busy towns and enter a world of relaxation and recreation. Sunbathing at the beach, relaxing by the pool, strolling through the gardens: the Makokola Retreat...
