The hostel is in a quiet location by the sea, which is very relaxing, however be prepared to get a rickshaw every time you want to go out and about or have your own transport as it's quite far to walk to Cherai Beach in the heat (nearest place to eat out, 1 hour). I would like to give this a better rating because the guys working there were really, really nice, and the food was delicious, but the problem was they didn't communicate with us enough. We didn't know where to find them in the middle of the night when the power went off in our part of the building. They didn't tell us the whole place had been booked for a massive birthday party until a coach load of people arrived. If they had we would have gone out for dinner that evening... Also not sure if CBL or Booking.com that did this, but it cost us triple the rate per night over new year, including the nights which weren't new year's eve or day. Would have been ok paying the normal room rate. Booking.com reviews look like they have been fixed somehow.…
Food was delicious, Mundoli is great chef, flendly;) They have big portions. Place is really nice and quiet, view for sunset ist perfect! Teras is big, good for practice morning yoga🙏 Place is near airport, with taxi 40 min. I recommend!;)
We booked to stay here for 3 nights and planned to move on after that. It was such a lovely place we decided to finish our time in India here, we stayed for 9 nights in the end and could easily have stayed longer. Muhammed was waiting for us at 3am when we arrived tired and weary, his only concern was to make sure we got settled in happily. That was his approach for the entire time we were there. There was fantastic traditional food cooked each day. The fish were caught within view of the table we would be eating it on later, many of the other ingredients are from the garden, and all of the food is cooked by the fabulous Kadeeja in her immaculately clean kitchen. I really couldn’t do her cooking justice in a review, if it was in a restaurant in the UK it would cost a fortune. The standards of cleanliness are exceptionally high, the beds are comfortable and the view from the terrace looks out to sea and easily filled an evening with a cup of tea or a cold beer. Muhammed and his other staff did everything they could to ensure we got the most from our stay, there is advice on where to go and how to travel, and great tips about everything from local sights to the local people and culture. Sadanandan is the only staff member we haven’t mentioned yet. An ex local fisherman who looks far younger than his 70 years and who was typical of the welcome we received from all of the local people in the area. We both felt very sad to leave these people who made us feel very special. Did we mention how fantastic her food is?? Thanks Chameleon, for one of the best memories we have. …
This nice clean and cosy place is located just beside the sea. One can just sit in the balcony and enjoy the beauty of the waves crashing on the rocks. The host Shahidul is super-friendly and will make you feel at home. Also, he is a great cook..!! I would definitely recommend everyone to at least have one dinner at the lodge. Overall, this place is worth every penny!
Beautiful beach house with a wonderful host. We arranged one Family Get together there. 4 AC rooms and the resort premises are neat & clean, welly maintained. In front of the property a small very beautiful beach. Nice place & good staffs makes our program very beautiful. we enjoyed a lot
This property is located at the middle of the Vypin island-a jewel of the God's own country. The host Mr.Robert and family were awesome bunch. This lodge lies very close to the beach. The beach is very clean and serene. You can get a spectacular view of the marine line from the terrace. The dining hall also throws a sight of dancing waves in the middle of the coconut palms. Rooms were located in a separate building. It's a comfortable stay with great food.I must appreciate Mr.Reji-the cook with fantastic culinary skills and he knows the perfect balance of the spices of each unique dish. The food prepared with utmost care and sprinkled with a lot of kindness. The hosts were affable and convivial. What you can do here: Have a stroll into the little hamlet around this property in the morning. There are many tiny islands which are located in the backwaters like green emerald gems on blue waters.Watch a sunrise through these "Kayal-Backwaters" or soak yourself in morning sun on the beach.Sunset is always very beautiful in the western coast so, do not miss it. Hosts were gave us a few "to-do" list. We had an opportunity to visit the "Pooram-a ceremonial progression" in the Cherai Shankaranarayana temple. It's an unexpected feast. Location: This is located just few miles away from the crowded Cherai. It's an ideal location for the people who loves solitude. From Airport, take an Uber/Ola or rent a car.Tap the google maps on your phone. From Cherai- You should take left.Drive till you see the arch of Syed Mohammed Road.Drive through Syed Mohammed road till you have an glimpse on beach. This property is located at the left.We were traveled back to Fort kochi by taxi till the edge of the Vypin then hopped into a Ferry for 2 minutes ride to step into Fort Kochi. If you leave Edavanakkad in the afternoon then it's good to visit few places in Fort Kochi and could watch Chinese Fishing nets in the sunset. Plan it well. ***You should call prior to arrange lunch or finish it up in Cherai.…
Good, clean house set in a nice garden facing the access road and the protective sea wall. Very friendly and helpful staff, pity about the location, it is more than remote! Rooms are clean and adequately appointed, a/c and ceiling fans with en-suite bathrooms. Breakfast and an evening meal are offered. Supper can be veg or non-veg, the latter commands a small premium. Local family cooking with eating at a communal table - works well to integrate the punters. For those seeking solitude, this fits the bill but to do anything apart from sitting at the house or walking 70m along the sea wall to the beginning of the sandy beach, requires transportation. Tuk tuks are available on call, with drivers who prefer to take the long route up to Cherai rather than use the direct but heavily potholed coastal "road", which naturally costs x3 or x4 the price. You have been warned! There is no beach immediately in front of the house, but a short walk along the seawall brings you to the beginnings of the lower end of sandy Cherai Beach. In line with the rest of India, regrettably plastic bottles and rubbish is not collected and is left to mount up. The tranquility is broken by x5 daily muezzin calls from the next-door mosque, which some may regard adds to the local colour and is not really intrusive during the day, however the dawn call could disturb the slumber of light sleeping holiday-makers. Amateurishly friendly run establishment, so if you seek unsophistication, this delivers.…
This is a great location if you want peace and tranquility. it is near to the southern end of Cherai beach but there is little in the way of facilities nearby. The staff had little use of English which led to some misunderstandings. The hotel offers yoga and other facilities which are not on site. In fact we only found out about the venue for the yoga from another guest. It was a 20 minute tuk-tuk ride away at a cost of 240 Rupees. For a hotel that charges up to £50.00 per night for a room, it would be reasonable to expect that hot drinks and bottled water would be included in the price
Me and my three friends spent seven nights at Chameleon. On the day of our arrival we discovered, that there was no beach to swim or to sunbathe. But rooms we liked a lot and the food was delicious and that was why we decided to stay. In the beginning we were the only guests and we were tended well. Food was tasty and rich. After few days new guests came, only for couple of nights though, but it became evident on the breakfast table. We were entirely vegetarian, new guests weren’t and as we usually had for breakfast some vegetarian curry with some fruits and Indian like pancakes, that morning we somehow were given only pancakes and bananas as the newcomers but now they had curry as well. Things were especially bad with our last dinner. House was now full of guests and we were given green beans and mungbeans. No rice, no curry but pancakes that they served for breakfast. Dish was cold, stiff and dried out. No satisfaction at all as we remained hungry. And irony was that out from the kitchen came such a fine food aromas as the crew was busy making delicacies. Later it became clear that there was a party in the hotel. First floor was crowded and everybody was having great time whole night. Our little company, who had to wake up very early in the morning leave for airport and besides empty stomach we had also lack of sleep. Owners of the hotel are fine people, but obviously to them most important is to push themselves because of new clients and not so much for the visitors that are already on premise. The four of us were living inside the most expensive rooms in the house, remained there for seven nights and ordered breakfast as well as dinner and despite the income we gave to the hotel we were sort of neglected even though new guest remained there for one night having booked the cheapest rooms.…
On the beach. You can hear the waves from your bed. The lodge is designed nicely in a way that fosters social encounters. Saruj was very patient and helpful. Food was great. Malyalam breakfast was great. Eveni gs on the porch playing indian board game like billiard. There are very good drivers working with the lodge. A nice place to relax.
