Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI

Nestled in a scenic locale, Callicoon Hills comes highly recommended for its picturesque environment and access to outdoor excitement, despite some remarks about expenses. The hotel's amenities, which include comfy accommodations, a peaceful vibe, pet-friendly policies, and commendable dining, receive accolades, although a few guests have raised concerns about water pressure and upkeep. While the rooms offer comfort, there have been comments about acoustic challenges, compact bathrooms, and a lack of contemporary conveniences. Staff friendliness is widely acknowledged, though occasional service inconsistencies are noted. Opinions on value are split, with some guests commending the amenities and culinary offerings, whereas others feel room dimensions and service do not justify the price. The tranquil atmosphere is often celebrated, and the commitment to cleanliness is evident, barring a solitary housekeeping gripe.

My wife and I loved the new A-Frames and the giant window allows for excellent viewing of the leaves changing. The “shared” bathrooms are actually individual rooms with amazing showers, heated floors with a toilet and sink. The room is simple but you’ll have everything you need for a great stay. Make sure to reserve a spot at the restaurant on site. The service and food were great.

We had a really nice stay at Callicoon Hills - the coffee shop / store area is really lovely and the amenities like free coffee and smores are really nice. Fire pit a big highlight. Food at Conover Club absolutely incredible. Bed and linens very comfortable. We stayed in the boarding house and the room was a bit small for the price (especially the bathroom) and the hot water was lacking at prime showering time. All in all very clean, comfortable, welcoming, and trendy (Brooklyn in the Catskills vibe).

Midweek, Callicoon Hills Resort was a wonderful experience for us, a married couple in our 50s. I hope they can maintain their reasonable rates (about $420 all-in 2 nights King) for what you get, which is a transformative sense of place buried in serene hills, a fantastic swimming pool (ideal refreshing temperature) and sweet, easy service. Check if the restaurant is open though as if not you do have to plan ahead for food. We brought our dinner and kept it in the fridge behind the cafe desk one night and had decent bar food in gorgeous setting at Upward Brewery the next. A summer weekend with the restaurant open might be too social for us, but imagine it would be great fun for families or youngs. These *are* nicely gussied up motel rooms, but unlike at some of the LifeHouse renos (who partners with the entrepreneurs behind this place) here they've updated to ductless split air AC/heat that is quiet and effective. Our shower pressure was low but I didn't care. Although I was close to choosing a more expensive place with private balconies, I'm glad I didn't. (I wanted this pool! And not to be stressed about overspending.) The shared outdoor spaces are lovely with enough nooks and crannies for solitude. They might want to add another hammock by the pond because it's heaven to lie on the one there and commune with frogs and fish and birds. Pro tip: if you are a runner, up Bethlehem Rd there are miles of scenic almost car-free country roads for hill work. Take your sneaks!

The room was very small. For this reason, I think they opted for an upholstered bench along the one wall with no back. It was very uncomfortable to sit on and my back hurt up against the wall that had decorative wood slats running up it. The room needed one or two small comfortable chairs to sit on to read, etc.

Callicoon Hills was a great find for our anniversary trip. The resort itself looks just like the pictures, and is so well done. Top to bottom is a cohesive and fun place to stay in the catskills in its own little world. Dog friendly makes it such a great option. Staff were great, so nice and there for when you need them. Nothing was a problem for them to help you with or get for you. Food was insanely good. Every meal, every item was the tastiest thing ever. Suggest making reservations there prior to arrival just incase, but staff were very accommodating. Only connection to the outside world was their wifi + wifi calling, no other service. No TVs in the room or fridges. Water + ice you can get 24/7 at the FD. Pool looks just like the pics, even better, it's huge. Could use some more loungers perhaps around the pool and was such a nice amenity to hang out during the day. There is no reason to leave if you're only there for a weekend trip. Any longer or with kids you may have to venture out to see/hike, everything looked 15 min away, nothing really right there in terms of a town/things to do. Would love to come back to Callicoon another time!

This was a girls trip for Labor Day weekend. We drove in from New York City. The hotel was conveniently located, and staff were very kind and helpful upon checking in. The hotel has a great coffee bar or happy hour when you first get in. We stayed in the cottage on the property. It was comfortable and well stocked. It even included a fire pit which was great for chilly nights. The wifi was high speed, TV was modern, so you can have all you need to work remotely, or you can have a quiet get away if you want that as well. The nearby towns were about 10-15 minutes in a car, so we had a chance to try local restaurants and support local shops as well. We felt safe in the area, and were provided with lots of options of places to go for hiking and other activities. We highly recommend staying here.

Honestly thought it seemed pricy for the size of the room . . . but THEN I HAD THE EXPERIENCE. It's staffed 24 hours. There is coffee pastry and snacks 24 hours. The room was impeccably clean. Evening smores became a center for social activity. Can't reccomend this place high enough! They even had drinking water for people who may not like tap!

We came for a weekend in June.

We had a great time at their pride event at the pool. Rooms were clean, snores by the fire were excellent. The resort has a very homey feel with lots to do outside and even in the lobby with lots of seating. Highly recommend use of all their amenities like coffee service and yoga on the deck!

Front desk staff seemed disjointed often and didn’t know what was going on or have straight answers to questions.

The saunas did not work all weekend which was disappointing, as they were a huge selling point. We did bring this to the attention of the front desk but they were not helpful in resolving.

Quick service lunch needs work. Salads were advertised the same as how they were in the dining room, but literally had nothing on them and they were at the same price point. Food needs work!

We overall had a great time and this whole resort is a great setting. Lots of nice people, huge perk folks can bring their dogs! With some work this can be an ideal stay! We hope to try it again next time we’re up in the area.

We were really excited to come here and even check out the place for a potential wedding venue. We were not told that the weekend we would be staying there was a wedding so that the restaurant would be closed Saturday evening (we were not told this pre booking or even upon arrival, we found out when trying to go to the restaurant Saturday). We were really disappointed with the customer service; we had to wait 30 mins upon arrival to check in since no one was at the front desk despite us arriving exactly when we told them we would be (6PM). Our room was not cleaned despite us requesting it, and we had to follow up twice. The walls were very thin and you could hear everything, and since there was a wedding the weekend we stayed it was very loud. We totally would have been ok with that but we just were never told there would be a wedding and so were not prepared with ear plugs etc. My fiancee and I work in hospitality and truly were really really let down by this spot. Case of great branding but the service and accommodations did not live up.

We stayed in an A frame in the "glamping" section of the resort - we had a gorgeous view from the full glass window/wall, especially at sunruse and sunset! Even though you're only 5 minutes from the amenities at the main resort, it felt secluded, quiet, and private. The shared bathrooms were very private and the rain showers were great. I'd recommend bringing some refillable waterbottles.

The on-site restaraunt, Conover Club, was awesome for brunch and dinner. We also got plenty of use out of the firepits, which have wood and firestarters provided. The location is gorgeous and there are some very cute towns and hiking/mountain biking trails within a 15 - 30 min. drive.
