Xigera is our love letter to the magic of the African bush. Every aspect is handcrafted to beguile our guests’ senses and stir their souls – from the evocative interiors to one-of-a-kind encounters. Transformed by Africa's life-enhancing beauty, it is a story of remarkable renewal. Of rebirth and family legacy, and of the pioneering spirit that drives us to seek out Africa’s wild spaces. The same spirit that inspired this remarkable reimagining, perhaps a complete reinvention, of an Okavango Delta safari. This is Xigera (pronounced ‘kee-jera’), named for the Pied Kingfisher that makes its home amid the watery channels of Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve. The culmination of a lifelong dream of the Tollman family, drawing on six decades of devotion to unparalleled luxury in service.

Dear Elin Thank you for sharing your lovely feedback with us. We were delighted to host you at Xigera Safari Lodge. Our menus at Xigera are ever-changing and have been created by some of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection's most talented chef's, made in camp by our wonderful Executive Chef Ziyaad Brown and his team. We spent 4 nights in Xigera with a group of 6 and we all agreed that we couldn't have asked for more. The guides, staff and manager Ben were unbelievably welcoming and left us wanting for nothing. The drives, dinners, accommodations and the whole concession in general was just amazing. To be sure that this is on our return trip is an understatement. I personally wanted to stay forever but unfortunately I cannot work in Botswana but I did get a name tag "Yomosha" which means new guy!!!

Absolutely incredible place - this is truly a mind-blowing experience in so many ways. The design of this property is so beautifully thought out and appointed that I will thinking about it for years to come. Every room is stunning and the common areas are works of art. The team did an amazing job integrating the hotel in with its surroundings, to the point that it’s hard to believe how top of the line luxury lodging could flow so seamlessly with the surrounding nature and wildlife until you see it in person. The staff were fantastically warm, knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, helpful and efficient at every step of our stay. We loved our guiding experience with Salani and had so many wonderful interactions with the managers and the rest of the staff. An enormous thanks to all these folks who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and taken care of in big ways and in tiny details. This was our first introduction to Botswana and our group was absolutely blown away. The guides have such an intimate knowledge of the land surrounding the property and the flora and fauna that inhabit it. Several of us have been on safari elsewhere before and this experience knocked our socks off. Highly recommend for groups, couples, and families who are looking for a once in a lifetime experience with an A-plus hosting team.

Dear Katherine We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Xigera Safari Lodge. Together with a team of experienced and knowledgeable individuals, we aim to offer guests a truly personal, memorable safari experience. The Xigera Design Collection was conceptualised by Toni Tollman, Philip Fourie and Anton de Kock – in collaboration with award-winning South African gallery Southern Guild. The intention was for the lodge to be a living gallery of African creativity and craftsmanship, with bespoke works commissioned exclusively for the lodge from some of Africa's most exciting young artists and artisans. Thank you for sharing your lovely feedback with us. Warm regards Ben, Quest and the Xigera Safari Lodge team

We visited Xigera early May for a a two night stay. And it simply wasn’t enough. Xigera is indeed a love story and more. Our trip was everything special and made special by the wonderful staff who were ready to assist at anytime. The food was fantastic, the game viewing experiences exceptional. The rooms - no words to describe them. Out of this world! Would recommend a 3+ nights stay. Nothing less to get the full experience. Thank you Ben and all the staff at Xigera for a memorable experience.

I had the great pleasure of spending two days at Xigera. It goes with out saying that it was just way to short to experience everything that Xigera has to offer! From the moment you touch down at the airstrip you are immersed in the raw beauty of Botswana, the scent of wild sage in the air evoking the African spirit within. Genius, our guide, was simply fantastic! His knowledge of the landscape and the animals is unparalleled. A deep love for the bush and its people resonates with you. The lodge itself is an oasis of luxury. The first thing that strikes you is the beautiful lily fireplace, and as you walk through the lodge you are blown away by the sheer scale of the art collection! It is almost too much to take in! All of this follows you to your suite which can only be described as “the presidential suite of the Delta" The cuisine is what you would expect at any award-winning restaurant, with a huge focus on sustainability. Simply Amazing. There is some much still to be said but the essence of the experience can never be conveyed through mere words, you will just have to go see it for yourself! In my opinion this property and the whole experience pays homage to the beauty of Africa! Can't wait to go back!

Dear Nikki, Thank you for sharing your comments about your stay with us. We have to agree with you that 2 nights is never long enough at Xigera and would highly recommend a minimum of 3-4 nights to make the most of what we have to offer. I am really happy to hear that you found Genius to be such an excellent and knowledgeable guide, will be sure to let him know. Thank you for the appreciation shown regarding the design, art and in particular our cuisine. Executive chef Ziyaad Brown and his team work hard to source only the best products in the most ethical way. As you say the best way to experience it is in person and we can wait to welcome you and your family back in the near future. All the best. Kind regards Ben Seager Managing Director/General Manager

Xigera is the best safari lodge in Africa in our experience. If you want to see the best of African artisans, you will be surrounded by their work throughout the lodge. You will never want to leave your villa. The views, the attention to detail, safari by boat, and the quality of food, the knowledge of the guide and tracker, and the kindness of the staff is beyond perfect.

Our four night stay was the culmination of our Golden Wedding celebration break in Southern Africa. This is the ultimate, all-inclusive safari experience. As world-travellers who enjoy discreet luxury, we arrived believing it would be a one-off. By the end of the first evening, we knew we must return. We travelled from Maun, Botswana to Xigera Safari Lodge by private transfer as one of the options on the website. Operations Manager David co-ordinated our arrangements flawlessly. Disembarking the fixed-wing, we were met by our game driver/guide to be, Des, and driven the short distance to the Lodge entrance where we were received by GM Ben and several of his team with welcoming smiles, refreshments and cold towels (on all subsequent returns from game drives, cold towels await you as you disembark from the 4 x 4). We all walked together along the raised walkway to The Lodge where perfectly-chilled champagne was offered and happily accepted. The Lodge: looking at the website gives you a taste – but websites can and do lie. This one doesn’t. And the reality is more amazing than the photographs and videos can possibly convey. Curated is a word I dislike because it is fashionable and much over-used. At Xigera it is appropriate because guests are surrounded by a collection of African art, curated with love. And yet, everything you use is practical rather than just beautiful. Usually, in the world of hospitality, it is one or the other, but rarely both. Xigera is eco-friendly, and we learned that they are constantly striving for more ways to achieve this. The use of sustainable and fallen wood in the walkways, suites, main buildings and not least, in the furniture and sculptures that are everywhere, is combined with cast iron in unusual and pleasing ways. It was a five minute walk to our suite, Sausage Tree, where we were introduced to our housekeeper Ounah, who explained how everything worked. Again, photographs cannot convey the quality and comfort of the spacious rooms, furnishings and surrounding deck, with views out over the plain from living room, bedroom and bathroom. We went on a first evening game drive where Des displayed the first taste of his exceptional skills as a driver/guide. The vehicles are Toyota and are extremely comfortable over the rough track and terrain. Personalised, insulated water bottles are provided for you, and are refilled with iced water each time you go out. Scouts go ahead to seek out the best places for game viewing and they work well with your driver/guide over radio. Over the four days, they found every creature one might wish to see that inhabits the area and we had frequent, breath-taking close-up encounters. The dining: we returned to an excellent meal (menus change daily) prepared at a time of our choosing. Chef Ziyaad came out to greet us and together with the dining staff, ensured our evening went well. We retired to bed ready for an early morning game drive before breakfast (also excellent) and chose a mokoro for our evening activity. Elia is a skilled poler who described his tribe and culture to us with great pride as we glided through the peaceful waters. It was a memorable evening. With variations of our choice, this describes our visit, which is completely adaptable to whatever and whenever one might wish. As the wet season is late this year, we decided we had to return to see the Okavango Delta in flood, and experience the boat rather than the 4 x 4. It will be a completely different safari, and we know it will be consistently welcoming, with smiling kindness, unfailing courtesy and discreet efficiency. If you have never been on safari, you can choose no better than Xigera. If you have been on one or two safari, or many, you will never have experienced anything to rival this. Unique is another misused word. If you think this review is over-full of superlatives, you are right. Lesser words are simply not sufficient to describe unique Xigera. We cannot wait to return.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your positive feedback with us, this is greatly appreciated and a pleasure to read. We were delighted to host you at Xigera Safari Lodge for 4 nights in celebration of your Golden wedding anniversary. A 4-night stay is perfect for guests to be able to experience our extensive offering from game drives, to mokoro excursions, birding, bush dining, Baobab Treehouse sleepout, photography, spa and wellness centre, Art & Design tour and optional helicopter safaris. Built with sustainability in mind – Xigera is solar-powered – the lodge is equally a unique celebration of African art, culture and creativity. The Xigera Design Collection, conceptualised by Toni Tollman, Philip Fourie and Anton de Kock – in collaboration with award-winning South African gallery Southern Guild – is breath-taking in both its scope and bold vision. Over 90% of the furniture and art pieces have been hand-produced in Africa by over 80 studios, designers and artists - the largest collection of African design anywhere in the world and intrinsically sustainable. We are proud of our state-of-the-art Energy Centre. This comprises a Tesla solar photovoltaic diesel hybrid system with lithium ion battery storage. The bulk of our energy requirements are supplied by renewable solar which will save in the order of 73,000 litres (19,285 US gallons) of diesel, thus preventing the release of about 191 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. We are happy to have removed all unnecessary single-use plastics from lodge operations. We look forward to welcoming you both back to Xigera. Warm regards Ben, Quest and the Xigera Team

I was very fortunate to recently visit this new Lodge in Botswana's Delta and to my surprise exceeded all expectations ever. During my lifetime and thanks to my career in Tourism, I have visited many Lodges in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe but Ixgera stands out way above any previous Lodges visited. I spent 3 nights which could have been 4 nights as this lodge just offers so much and more - luxury safari vehicles, culinary food, mokoro trips, jet boat trips, spa, gym and the sheer luxury and design that went in to this lodge.

Dear Glenn, Thank you for your wonderful feedback, we are delighted that you enjoyed your recent experience at Xigera and will share this with our Team. With all that the Lodge has to offer, you are correct that a 4-night stay is definitely to be encouraged. a Comfortable 25 minute light aircraft flight transitions you into the heart of the Okavango Delta. Our aircrafts final approach revealed Xigera Safari Lodge as we look down onto channels of water cutting through lush greenery that surrounds the lodge. The lodge is seductively hidden under a canopy of trees on an island. Our safari vehicle with only 4 seats provides a sense of exclusivity, and with a short 10 minute ride from the airstrip we are welcomed into the lodge by the generous smiles of team Xigera with refreshing hand towels The lodge is reached by wooden bridge expanded over the meandering water channels created by the rising Delta. The beautiful water lilies synonymous to the delta is reflected in a handcrafted fireplace. The fireplace and the beautiful sculptures and fine art flow from first entry onto the bar and an evocative red lounge couch that leads you to migrate to the dining room with its accessible wine cellar with extended choice of wine for the more curious palate. With some champagne in hand I am escorted to my Villa by a lodge host who points out the library, designed and fitted with bespoke art, and all the comforts to allow for a relaxing atmosphere, but with convenient access to enriching nature videos or an IMAC work station to edit images. There is also a lodge shop with choice of refined art, craft and clothing all made by local artisans from our African soil. The final walk to the room is on a raised wooden walkway. There is no emotion in words that could best express my first impression walking into this spacious 190 square meter (2045 square feet) well designed comfort. Unless you have experienced Xigera, you can not appreciate how every thought had been given to guests comfort, experience, design and practicality. I walked through the door, and am immediately met by my housekeeper Vee. With a warm smile and kind nature she walks me through the suite pointing out every detail to ensure that I am familiar with the comforts of this incredible space. Vee leaves with my luggage kindly unpacked, and returns with my clothing pressed to perfection. I settle down and enjoy reading a personalized note and whiskey, neat. The lounge in my suite is fitted with unique 4 seater distinctively designed couch; seated with a view of the delta is makes it difficult to move. The bedroom has an extra length kings size bed. I am impressed by a television screen subtly hidden in a cupboard at the foot end of the bed. The television is easily accessed by an electronic lift that reveals or hides the screen to my preference. The wall behind the bedroom reveals a dressing room which is fitted with ample cupboard space, and has a dressing table with appropriate plug points, hairdryer and well lit mirrors. There is also a safe to store some personal items of value. The bathroom further compliments the craftmanship of the suite with beautiful cast, his and her basins, and a bathtub wrap in copper. I personally love the Lillie leaves that are imbedded on the shower floor. The bathroom walks out onto the wooden deck that wraps the entire frontage of the suite. There is an outdoor shower but more inviting a gazebo with a corner lounge with plush cushion to relax after a sensational meal. The suite also has an mini-butler station with a choice of premier spirits, soft drinks, still or sparkling water. With each meal I am presented with a 3 course menu. The meals choices are seductively introduced, and while we await our choices we are extended a exquisite selection of wines to pair with the food. Xigera Safari Lodge sets the bench high with Bouchard Finlayson being the lodge inclusive offering. On our first afternoon safari drive we encounter some wild dogs who are playfully unaware of a year old leopard cub perched in a nearby tree, a fortunate find for a first safari drive. Our safari drive concludes with an unexpected stop on slightly higher ground to enjoy a herd of elephant running through distant water, while the lodge has made an special effort to set up chairs and a selection of drinks and canapes for us to enjoy as the sun sets. Soft rain greats me in the morning. There is no pressing schedule at Xigera, it is all at hearts desire. I use the opportunity to explore the gym. Well equipped with interactive recording of my efforts. The staff can not show enough kindness, caring about if I have a towel, need water, or possibly want to consider a massage in the spa. Two beautiful spa "pods" elegantly designed with no other sounds to invade your privacy other than nature itself. I sadly decline, and rather recline pool side. I take a few laps in the swimming pool, and part submerged enjoy the generous views. As the clouds disappear and reveal some open sky we decided to go on a boat ride into the delta channels up stream from the lodge. The boat we are on is the only of two such boats in the delta with glass bottoms. This said the theatre happens as we make our way with an abundance of birds seen near and far. African Jacana's hopping from lilliepad to lilliepad, Fish Eagles, King Fishers, Breasted Rollers, Bee Catchers and more After another lunch and relaxed afternoon we take short transfer to join our guides that take us on a hour mokoro ride. Our guide points out the little frogs that are camouflaged to the untaught eye. This remind me that even the small little details matter. My last evening at the lodge is hosted in the lodge boma. a Circular structure of wood. Where every detail counts the boma has some revealing art as centre peace with a large fire burning around it to create atmosphere. Our host again invites us to a dinner buffet with a selection of local venison, lamb, beef, and other delectable dishes to complement this special evening that is ended with some beautiful choir song performed by the entire team at Xigera Safari Lodge. My last morning is greeted with rain, but in such beautiful surroundings and for a few more hours in my "home from home" I prefer staying indoor, enjoy a coffee and the views over the plains that remain playful

Dear Peter-John, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed wonderful review on your recent visit to Xigera, it has been a pleasure for us to read. The new lodge is truly unique in its offering. We are delighted that you were able to experience both our land and water activities whilst at Xigera, as well as some of the in-camp experiences on offer. Our innovative glass-bottomed mokoro - constructed from sturdy fibre-glass – allow for incredible views of the Delta both above and below (traditionally these would have been carved from a single tree trunk). We will share your feedback with our team, who will be excited to receive your comments. Warm wishes, Mike, Marian & Xigera Team
