Simply love this place! 4 Years ago we were looking at a forest wedding at Dunkeld, but our guest list didn't allow for it... In closing off 2016, on a very busy family camping holiday, and being flushed (rained) out of Ballito, my husband suggested a spontaneous stay in Dullstroom at Dunkeld. The moment we drove into the estate, I...

There are not enough words to describe how much we enjoyed our stay at the Dunkeld Country Estate. From the reception, hotel, spa, 1883 restaurant, to the Equestrian Estate, everything we experienced was absolutely wonderful. I would recommend this venue to anybody. Carla at the Equestrian Centre is an absolute angel. She made us feel like we were part of...

Awesome stay, lots of activities - amazing views and fishing, fabulous bike trails through the forest. This is a SUPER "1-Stop"place, they have absolutely everything! Great entertainment for young kids. Restaurant has an average selection, miss the cosy ambience of the Black Swan but had our dinner in the Jazz Bar with fireplace and that old "Dullstroom-village pub" feel! Took...

Service was poor, staff unfriendly and unhelpful. We had lunch in restaurant - sandwiches - and this was really not nice and the service was poor. Will not stay here again. You pay for 5 star accommodation, but this is not what you get. We were really disappointed, as this did not meet our expectations at all. The estate is...

The chalet was beautiful with wild zebras roaming around and the amenities were wonderful apart from not being mommy and child friendly like loungers next to the cold pool. Other than that it was perfect

A great location alone will not suffice. Perhaps it was just over the Christmas weekend that the staff were not eager to assist, but the holiday business is a service industry and good service cannot be abandoned. The 5 star rates charged were unfortunately not met with the same quality of facilities.

My children and I spent a day as day visitors at this Estate. You can be young or old, come visit. The location beautiful, removed from the over commercialized little town of Dullstroom. There is adventure activities for example "zip line" at very very reasonable prices. Horse riding, an indoor and outdoor pool as well as put-put and a children's...

Upon arrival, I was forced into paying R180 conservation fee else I could not use any facilities that was advertised, and which I was under the impression I already paid for. There was no personal touch, we experienced a very cold impersonal feeling. On a 1000 hectare peace of land, you would hope someone would perhaps take you around and...

lovely resort but there is a need for a total revamp of the units and better management of staff. the current units are not maintained at all and the cleanliness is much to be desired. too many staff lazing around with no urgency in completeting their task

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dunkeld Country Estate is a beautiful trout-and-game resort situated on over 1000 hectares only 3.7Kms from the popular village of Dullstroom. The area, renowned for its sub-alpine climate, high altitude and fly fishing waters, is favoured by city dwellers wanting to relax in the country and enjoy fresh air and panoramic views only 2.5 Hours from Johannesburg. The Resort consists of a central Lodge which offers 13 spacious Hotel rooms dotted around a fishing dam and near the main restaurant/ reception area. Our self-catering accommodation consists of 4 private self contained family suites and an additional 20 self-contained one bedroom chalets. Most of our rooms have an open fireplace to keep warm on those cold, and most popular, misty days. The heritage of the estate has been preserved with the conversion of the old farmhouse into a restaurant, which is more than a hundred years old. Our new reception, lounge and jazz bar was opened in August 2014 and compliments our banqueting facilities which cater to weddings, functions and conferences. We have a stone chapel, tea garden and can cater to your every need. Dunkeld is well known for its forest weddings. The resort boasts many well-stocked dams filled with Brown, Rainbow and Golden Trout, offering fly-fishing enthusiasts from novice to experienced the enjoyment of quality angling time in pursuit of that perfect catch. We are also passionate about introducing children to the art of fly fishing and one of our on-site guides holds a demo and teaching session every weekend. The estate also offers a host of family and child orientated activities. Our horse out rides are very popular as is our kiddies activity program. We are introducing new and fun activities every week. The Estate is located on the famous Panorama Route which takes visitors from Dullstroom all the way through remarkable landscapes to the Blyde River Canyon, Echo Caves and Pilgrims Rest. Dunkeld is also the perfect rest stop on the way to the Kruger National Park and the private reserves located in the Timbavati and Sabi Sands Reserves. ... more   less
