We had an amazing stay at this camp. On arrival we were treated to a lovely drink, and sat down for lunch. The chef came to tell us what they had prepared, and they were so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing, and you certainly will not go hungry with breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner! We got to try some traditional South African food, beautiful salads and amazing desserts. Our tour guide was Gery, and he was fantastic! He was very knowledgable, and friendly. Making us laugh all the time, and teaching us so much about the animals, plants and insects. He made us feel like family. My parents love birds, and he took time to identify different birds in the reserve, and told us interesting facts about them. He made us feel really special. All the staff were really kind, we felt incredibly spoilt after a fantastic dinner, going to the room and it was ready for us, lovely and warm, with sweets on the pillow. The chefs were also really lovely and friendly, and really amazingly talented at what they do. The food is truly prepared with love and expertise. We really are the luckiest people in the world and thank you for welcoming us, and making us feel like part of your family. We will be back.

This was our second stay and we'll certainly come back for more! We love this lodge with its friendly staff and lovely location. We also like the way it is linked to the local community. Would recommend Thakadu without reservation.

The lodge and the facilities were overwhelming and luxurious. Excellent food and service. We so much enjoyed the game drives with Gary. He was really very committed and explained to us everything Madikwe reserve is known for. There was only one thing that surprised us: On the day of our arrival we came in at 3:20 pm. Check-in was between 2 and 5 pm we we told. We started with an interesting game drive right away after a warm reception. At night we had a great dinner. We booked for 2 nights, i. e. 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, 4 game drives. As we didn’t have lunch the first day, we expected to get lunch on our departure day. But the manager was real strict and told us that we missed our lunch on the first day as we arrived at 3:20 pm only (Check-in 2-5pm!). To us it didn’t seem logical. She denied us the 2nd lunch which we paid for. That didn’t quite match the overall excellent impression we had of the friendly and very attentive staff. Because of the manager we take of one star in terms of service.

Had a 3 night stay here and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, we really felt at home. Vincent was an excellent guide, very experienced and knowledgeable, we saw lots of animals. The tents were clean, comfortable and warm. Food was delicious. One afternoon we saw a large group of elephants of all ages at the waterhole in front of the lodge, which was an amazing experience. They provide blankets and hot water bottles in the trucks when you go out in the morning which is a very good idea as it can be a bit chilly first thing. For those who miss their wifi you can log on in the main lodge area. If anyone from the lodge reads this, we thought it would be nice for guests to have a couple of wildlife and birdlife reference books in the main lodge/lounge area to look at.

Great experience all round;- service, food, location, accommodation. Lots of animals close to the lodge, visible from the pool deck or seating area @ the watering hole. Make sure you have a beanie for the game drives. Can be quite chilly.

We have had the most wonderful time at Thakadu this week. All staff were so gentle and welcoming to us and our (noisy) four kids. The food was cooked with love and care, and game drivers were excellent.

It was raining when we arrived, and we were greeted with umbrellas and a warm lunch. The lodge is beautiful, and the food outstanding. Our rooms were tents, but they are much, much nicer than "glamping." They have full bathrooms and air conditioning. Our beds were turned down for us each night. On safari, we saw four of the big five game the very first night. The next day we watched lions eat a freshly killed zebra. We saw dozens of kinds of animals up close over the three days. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend Thakadu!

I just spent 8 nights & 9 days at the Thakadu River Camp. 5 +++ stars! Everything was perfect! The accommodations & service are Top Notch! The tents are beautiful . The king size beds comfortable , the views from the private decks, the turn down service! Everything was magical! Like a dream. The meals were delicious and they accommodated my diabetes diet. I cannot say enough about the staff. These South African natives are polite, attentive & courteous! Our group had 15 people and they quickly learned all our names! The director named “PATIENCE “ was professional and humorous and made us all feel at home! The cocktails, the cleanliness, the service was WORLD CLASS! The GAME drive GUDES “GERY” and “ VINCENt” were professional, knowledgeable and entertaining. We ALWAYS felt safe and were shown Lions up close, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, ZEBRAS, water Buffalo, Springboks, impalas, Wildebeests And even spotted a Leopard. The guides are brilliant at tracking the animals and bringing us close! We especially enjoyed Gery, what a tracker he is! I am returning again with my family! This is truly a spectacular way to enjoy South Africa’s outdoors & WILDLIFE animals! Also the pool was refreshing and the view breathtaking! No bugs or mosquitos! Paradise!! I will return again & again!
