Jamala in Swahili = natural elegance and this lodge delivers that and more. The lodge is elegant without feeling snobbish. Rooms are amazing! Beds and linens ensure a most amazing night’s rest, and the bathrooms are fit for royalty. There is a well-stocked mini-bar a huge deck and a lovely plunge pool for those hot Kalahari days. The lodge offers many places to tuck in with a book or watch the watering hole directly in front of the main deck. Food quality is excellent, menus imaginative and portions perfect. There is no formal lunch here. There is a HUGE breakfast and then a robust afternoon tea. The Lodge’s spa was great! With only 5 villas you never feel crowded, and GM Nico and the team make you feel like you are in a private home, not commercial lodge. One noticeable thing about Game Drives is the lack of a Tracker (this is the standard for most lodges at Madikwe). I was blessed to have Ranger Niall – Dr Johns, the Niga of Madikwe. His passion for the land and love of animals is unmatched by ANY Ranger I’ve ever had. Madikwe is the land of Pachyderm. Each drive brought encounters with these amazing animals and due to the soil, many are red. There are lions, giraffe and leopards (but these are shy). Brown Hyena, Spotted Hyena, Zebra, many antelope and tons of Leopard Tortoise graced the drives. I was enchanted with Madikwe and Jamala is luxurious without pretention. For these two reasons I will not only recommend a visit, I will be returning myself.

Holiday of a lifetime. Luxury beyond my wildest dreams alongside an authentic bush safari experience with dedicated knowledgeable guides, (we saw every single animal we could think of including wild dogs giving chase to impala) superb food (and plenty of it) and charming staff who anticipate your every desire. Every little detail in you villa has been thought of, from cotton wool, hair conditioner and face wipes to decanters of sherry, proper coffee machine and a mini bar bursting with drinks. All villas have private plunge pool, yoga mats, comfy four posters and triple aspect view of the watering hole to wake up to. I have never stayed and probably never will stay anywhere better. Thank you Rodney and staff for an unforgettable three days. Wow.

From the moment we arrived at Jamala Madikwe, we were transported into another world. A world of service excellence. Spacious, stylish and elegant surroundings. Delicious and beautifully presented meals. Our guide, Nile, was knowledgable, entertaining and enthusiastic Every drive was an adventure. Precious, Kelloggs, Lawrence and Karabo were warm and welcoming. Attention to detail and memorable keepsakes made the experience extra-special. Rod and Nico, thank you for a delightful birthday weekend. We couldn't have wished for a better way to spend it.

Staying at Jamala Madikwe lodge was a great experience. Nico and his team are excellent hosts. They were always very attentive and went out of the way to ensure we had a good time. The food was of the highest quality. The rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable, with great attention to detail. The waterhole provided continuous elephant activity throughout the day. Our guide, KG, had extensive knowledge of the animals and environment, and also gave us an insight into his local community and the background to the reserve. He also worked hard to make sure we saw wild dogs which was a first for us after several safaris. Well done Jamala!

Jamala Madikwe is simply perfect. We stayed four days and each one was special. Let me start with the game drives. Our guide Lazzy was from the area. He studied the animal tracks and knew what areas in the park were the favorite of certain animals. We were very lucky to see wild dogs and their cubs, a cheetah, brown hyenas, elephants, lions, rhinos, and giraffes, wildebeest, among others. The watering hole is 30 meters from the couch (hence couch safari) and we saw interactions between all kinds of animals. Next, the food. Jacques whipped up some of the best dishes we ever had, literally taking local ingredients and making them extraordinary. The GM Nico is a world famous chef himself and has a following of his own. His attention to detail and care for visitors is world-class. I corresponded with Rodney, the owner of Jamala, who I saw briefly and liked immediately for his kindness and charm. And the staff - Lawrence, Precious, Caribo (who makes a mean cocktail and please forgive my misspelling of his name) and Kellogs were attentive and fun. Although I never met the maids who cleaned my room, they noticed that I was a jelly bean fanatic but never ate licorice jelly beans. By the third day, they picked out all the licorice jelly beans, so I wouldn't have to do it myself. No request by a guest is too much. Please, do yourself a favor. Stay at Jamala Madikwe. You'll never forget the beauty of the landscape, the incredible villas (we stayed in Villa 1), the sumptuous food, or the staff who are treated like family themselves. A visit never to forget.

We have just spent 4 nights with two friends at Jamala. Everything from start to finish was spot on. A brilliant effort from Nico and his team. The villas are superb, beautifully decorated and are huge. The main lodge has a wonderful view over a waterhole, we could have sat there all day long just watching the animals, the villas also have great views. Chef Jacques is brilliant, his enthusiasm is fantastic and the food him and his team produce is amazing. His marinated Ostrich steaks were ridiculously good, try them if offered. Our guide, Niall, was absolutely brilliant, his knowledge of animals, birds and fauna blew us away. Also he is a really decent guy, very funny as well. There is a lovely spa, a gym and a gift shop offering some beautiful things. We came away knowing that we will 100% return, not something we have said of other lodges we have stayed at previously as there are so many to choose from. But Jamala is special and we will return. Many thanks to all at Jamala, your hard work ensures that everyone who visits has a fabulous time.

There are so many safari options and it is intimidating to choose from afar. We are so happy that Jamala was our choice. The luxury and extreme customer service were much appreciated, and the amazing view of the watering hole and fantastic game drives were definite highlights. Nial was a very informative and entertaining guide. And I cannot forget to mention the delicious meals, afternoon teas and drinks!! The villas are beautiful and SO comfortable. Absolutely nothing negative to say and we are certainly hoping to plan a return trip soon. If only we didn’t live halfway around the world.

Jamala has so many wonderful features, along with an extremely hard working staff who demonstrated daily that they care about their guests. Most noticeable was the attention to every detail of decor, service, food, and accommodations! The exterior grounds are gorgeous, with a variety of flowers and plants to enhance a beautifully detailed landscape. Their watering hole attracts a variety of animals, which allows for a comfortable way to relax while viewing the animals from your villa and/or the outdoor sofas! Once inside the large villa, every room, every wall, every table, shows attention to more lovely details. Our meals were all fine dining, extremely sumptuous and most delicious; again....attention to the details of presentation with exceptionally great taste! Special thanks to Chef Jacque.....every meal was amazing! Nico and his staff provided a warm, caring service, which made us feel very comfortable. After our stay at Jamala, the other nice, five star lodges did not come close to the amenities, outstanding meals, and overall luxuriousness. A huge "Thank you" to Nico and the entire Jamala team, for everything you did, to make our stay most memorable and extremely special! Our stay at Jamala was truly outstanding and exceeded every expectation! Nancy & Fred

From the moment we arrived at Jamala until we departed (reluctantly) we were surrounded by sumptuous landscape, over the top decor, Michelin eqivelent meals and a staff that knew what we wanted/needed before we did. We checked off all the animals on our list in no time so the rest of our visit was pure pleasure rewatching them. I have been in a funk since we left. Love to Nico and all the staff
