An African dream beckons – one that is defined by extraordinary scenery, an authentic atmosphere and warm hospitality. This is Motswari Private Game Reserve, a family-owned and operated luxury safari lodge. Here, majestic creatures, including the Big Five, offer incredible viewing opportunities as they bask in their natural habitat. Motswari means “to conserve and protect” in Tswana and that is what the reserve aims to do. Motswari Private Game Reserve, located within the Timbavati and Umbabat Private Nature Reserve, stretches out over 150 square kilometres. It has been in existence for over four decades and its friendly staff members are intrinsic to its success. Great emphasis is placed on personal attention, ensuring that each guest instantly feels at home in this stunning setting. Artworks by owner, Marion Geiger-Orengo, additionally bring the lodge to life and add to its visual appeal. "Arrive as visitor, leave as a friend."

Seriously, Motswari was one of the best safari experience and lodging accommodation I’ve ever been to. The entire staff and safari team was thoughtful, attentive, and extremely good at their jobs. Our group of 4 friends spent 5 days at Motswari and we didn’t want to leave by the end of the stay. Our guide Byron and tracker Hendry were the best duo we could have asked for. They really know their stuff and took so much efforts to make sure we got to see all the animals. We saw the big 5 and got so close to many of them. And we were lucky to have the best jeep crew ever to make those drives even better. The food and the lodging were also amazing. Dinner location was different every night. We had incredible food for each meal and all the staff remembered the guests names, making us feel like home. Thank you to the entire team at Motswari for making this one of the most unforgettable experiences ever!! Hopefully, I get to visit again one day!

We have just left Motswari and I can honestly say that nothing I can write here will be able to tell you how utterly fantastic our experience was. The staff are beyond kind, so generous and such genuinely lovely people. The service they provided, the delicious food they cooked and the entertainment and stories they provided us with was nothing short of amazing. We left feeling extremely well looked after and it truly felt like a home away from home. We missed it the moment we left. We were so lucky to have Sean and Ellie as our guide and tracker. Their persistence, patience, knowledge and skill in finding the animals and wildlife had us lost for words. They also did it with so much respect and understanding towards the animals which was beautiful to see. They made every single encounter feel like it was also the first time they were seeing it. Their passion shone through from the many species of trees, birds, the smallest of spiders and insects, to the wonderful big 5 and the added bonuses of Hyena cubs, warthogs and Giraffes plus so many more! Visiting Motswari is an absolute must. There are no amount of stars I wouldn't give this place and there is no doubt we will return here someday. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for providing us with this unforgettable experience and more than we can ever have wished for. Motswari you will always be special to us !

As soon as we entered Motswari camp we felt it was going to be magical and we were not wrong. The warm smiling welcome from all the staff made us feel at home in the bush.We stayed in Steenbuck lodge which was beautifully presented with 4 poster bed, lovely traditional furniture and Large bathroom fitted with a big bath with views into the bush, and also a walk in shower. The dining areas which we had meals served in different locations every night,Wednesdays are a surprise venue which they keep as a secret but it was very special. All the meals were absolutely lovely, all freshly cooked and very delicious, but the way in which they start the meals with all the waiting staff carrying the food and singing traditional songs was amazing.Sunrise the head chef was a star lovely voice and smile. As for the safari that was absolutely brilliant, stars of the show BYRON and HENDRY their interaction and knowledge with the guests made it a truly memorable experience,we saw the big 5 plus lots more. For our anniversary we stayed in the off site giraffes nest which was an unforgettable night, they drop you off and have everything prepared for you, with lovely food shower and a 4 poster bed with open views you can listen to lions and other animals calling through the night. We were both very sad to leave and as they say arrive as a guest leave as a friend is so true.I can’t recommend Motswari and staff enough. We hope to return one day.The Willoughby’s 🥰

The staff were lovely, the room was amazing, the service was excellent, the food was beyond expectation (best carrot cake we ever had). Within three game drives we saw the big 5 and more, although we were told we were very lucky. Lion and hyena cubs to boot. We had five game drives (due to our next leg of the journey we missed our last one) and two bush walks. Our guide Petros and our tracker Patrick were a great team. I cannot express how much we enjoyed our experience here.

I think most things have already been said but our 3 nights were excellent. I am perhaps a sinical veteran of many game drive but thanks to the excellent team work between Byron our guide and Henri our tracker I have never been so close to the wildlife as this time. The ordering and management of prime spots was excellent and you never felt rushed off a sight or crowded. The lodge itself maintain a traditional African feel even more excentuate by the wonderful team working to make your stay one to truly remember, My main criticism is a personal one in the fact I don't like buffet style meals and all meals are served this way but I could not fault the favour, choice or quantity. Perhaps another thing to bear in mind is the rooms are spread out in the Bush linked by sandy paths and perhaps not the easiest to move on if you are unsteady on your legs or have mobility issues. Our stay represented excellent value and left us with memories that will be with us for ever

We are really pleased to hear you had an excellent 3 night stay, and we do take extra care out on Safari to ensure we have minimal impact on the environment and animals, and thus create a much better viewing experience,. Although buffet isnt your preferred choice, it is great to hear the food was of good quality. Please do come back and visit us again

We loved our stay at Motswari. We enjoyed 3 nights with our two teens (age 11 and 15) and were then joined by extended family for 4 additional nights. The staff here are outstanding! Incredible, attentive and caring service. You truly do feel like family. We shed a tear saying goodbye to our new friends. The food is plentiful and excellent. Fresh, great quality with varied menus made every mealtime a great experience. My only complaint is that my pants were too tight from the delicious meals. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. They are simple but just exactly what you need while in the Bush. Game sighting was overwhelmingly good. We saw the Big 5 on several occasions. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and we learned so much about the African Bush. We will definitely return to Motswari!!! Much gratitude to all the incredible staff: Byron, Megan, Lot, David, Neil, Prince, Thandy, Themby, Masha, Sipho, Clifford, Timothy, Lilian and everyone at Motswari for being such lovely hosts.

Thank you for your wonderful review! We had a lot of fun hosting first yourselves (and Coco) and then the rest of the family. We are just so pleased that we could be a part of such a meaningful family get together, and that we managed to have you leave as friends. Please do come back, all of us would be delighted to host you again.

My wife and I went on our first safari, six years ago and we loved it so much we decided to go back and take our adult children so they too could sample the splendour of Kruger Park. Of course boyfriends and a wife have been added to total numbers now and so 11 of us arrived at Motswari with pretty big expectations. We weren’t disappointed. The lodge was fantastic, the safari’s were amazing and the food and service was first class. Our drivers were (as a big group, we were allowed to use two jeeps) Mbongeni and Eric and our trackers were Jan and Difference. All four couldn’t have been more helpful with Eric spearheading the humour and pranks. All of them were really knowledgeable when it came to the detail behind the plants and animals which made for a more educational theme during the Safari drives. Back at the lodge the staff were equally impressive, with their dedication to top quality service being their major objective for all guests. Particularly Prince and Trust who were not only good at their job but also worked extremely hard in engaging with the guests. I couldn’t recommend this holiday experience more

After staying in a couple of bush camps in the weeks before, it was very pleasant to sleep in a warm room (with heater). The rooms are very spacious and have a nice view of the dry river bed where animals roams. The food was really amazing and there are three very cozy areas to have your food. We particularly like the large main area where you can see a lot of elephants, giraffes etc. walking through the river bed. Thanks a lot to Byron and Qolani for the excellent driving, guiding and spotting. The game viewing is very 'easy' here because the Motswari jeeps and jeeps from other camps communicate well about the whereabouts of the desired animals like lions, leopard, rhino, wild dogs etc. One element one has to bear in mind is that there are a maximum of two jeeps per sighting and with several camps in the Timbavati reserve, that means after some time you have to make way for other guests meaning you may not be able to wait until a leopard comes down from the tree.

We appreciate the great review, thank you. We do limit the vehicles in the sighting as a Reserve, and this is to ensure that the animals don't get unduly pressured by us, allowing them to behave naturally. This also helps to make sure that everyone viewing our animals gets the best possible experience when in the sighting.
