Amazing lodge with the best patio in the whole world. At lunch we watched giraffes and an elephants pass buy. They have a tree house at a watering hole that you can choose to visit during the day or spend the night. We choose to go during the day and we fortunate to have several herds of elephants visit (we counted 70 at a e time). The owners were on site and joined us for dinner with some of the staff. There is no true electricity, but there is solar panels that provide electricity to the huts. Wonderful experience.
Me with my 6 year old daughter for my birthday. It was wonderful. 11 Lion cubs! Amazing. Excellent service, food, rooms and guides. I will be there again. P.S. It was amazing how many of the guests there at the time were returning guests, some for the 6th time! Recommendations do not get much better than that.
My wife and I visited this as part of a trip for our honeymoon this year. The staff were so friendly it was lovely to meet them all. The camp feels safe and relaxed even when some of the animals wander through. Game Drives: The Rangers and Trackers were amazing at finding the animals. They work closely with the staff from nearby camps as well to help visitors see as much as they can on their trip. We were incredibly lucky on our trip as we saw all of the big 5 on our first day and then we enjoyed seeing many other animals throughout the rest of our trip too. We even got to see 11 beautiful lion cubs! The locations of the snack stops were also amazing and one day we managed to drink hot chocolate at sunrise whilst watching a whole family of elephants drinking at a watering hole. The game drives are obviously the reason you would go here but be aware that it is worth taking a coat to wrap up as it can be as cold as 5 degrees celsius in the morning before sunrise. They do provide blankets and hot water bottles but it is worth wrapping up for the morning drives. We went in the winter but it was still about 23 degrees in the middle of the day so it is also worth wearing sun lotion to protect your skin. Going in the months as we did, you get to see the animals very clearly as they can't hide as easily behind the plant life. Food: The food was home-cooked meals. There was always a vegetarian option as well as meat dishes. It wasn't fancy food but it was delicious. There is also plenty of food available. You get a morning snack before the first game drive (6 am), a snack and a drink on the first drive (7:30 am), breakfast on return (10 am), lunch (2 pm) evening snacks (5 pm) dinner (6 pm). There was also a variety of drinks to choose from. All of these are included in your inclusive package when you stay. Room: The rooms are very comfortable but can get cold in the winter. There are open windows covered by mesh. They do lower wooden coverings in the evening but these don't stop the cold from getting in. We had an incredibly comfortable king-size bed with sheets that kept you very warm all night. The staff also prepared a hot water bottle per person to take to bed at night too. In the rooms, we were also given a walkie-talkie for emergencies as you are not allowed out of your room after dark without an escort for safety. The room was fitted with a gas-geyser boiler, shower, toilet and sink. The water was warm in our outdoor shower and we had access to everything we needed during our stay. Atmosphere: Although you clearly go here to see the animals, the atmosphere of Umlani Bush Camp and the whole experience of living in the bush is so much more than just the animals. They do have wifi in one area of the camp, although it is very slow. I didn't use it at all on my visit and the digital detox was welcomed by most. This meant the communal areas were full of conversation between the guests and the staff. We ate together, drove together and drank around the campfire together. The relaxed atmosphere clearly made everyone feel comfortable and we all enjoyed eating, drinking and chatting into the night. Even knowing we had to be up at 5:30 am for the game drive the next morning. All in all. I would recommend going to Umlani Bush Camp. I hope to go back one day to enjoy the experience all over again.…
We recently enjoyed 5 wonderful days at Umlani Bushcamp and wish we had been able to stay longer! Mikayla and her staff were warm and welcoming and the property rustic and immaculate. The lodging in the reed huts were so comfortable and relaxing. We loved the outdoor showers! The food was family style and very delicious and the dining experience exceptional. As great at the property is it is truly overshadowed by the beauty of the African Bush. Our ranger, Big A and our tracker, Lucky were relentless in pursuit of the wildlife and shared amazing knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area. It was truly awe-inspiring to spend time with these incredible gentlemen in an area that they know so well. Our game sightings were spectacular including a leopard in broad daylight. Overall, if you are considering a stay at Umlani, book it and add a couple extra days, You won't want to leave.…
We travelled as a family to umlani. We were welcomed by michaela , Joanne and Elvis and others and absolutely treated as family from the first minute. The place is rustic and classy. That it is only rated three stars is a factor of South Africa’s idiotic rating system. It doesn’t have a spa and massage and the frills. The bungalows are very , very comfortable, the food is outstanding. The staff and drivers/trackers are extremely focused on catering to your needs. I would rather go here again than any of the fru fru 5 star lodges for the authentic African experience
This was our second visit and well worth it. The team could not have been nicer and accommodating. Elvis and Ephraim were a brilliant ranger team who just made every game drive special. I could not recommend Umlani highly enough. We are already discussing our next visit.
We fell in love with Umlani and the incredible SA bush during our 7 night stay. Our ranger Murray and tracker Clarence gave us the most magical experience we could hope for and Marco the owner has created something truly special. Marco and Murray joined us for most meals and their obvious passion for the bush and the wildlife within it added greatly to our experience. The food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for the whole team. We saw the big 5 within our first 24 hours and had time between game drives to just relax and absorb our incredible surroundings.
This was our first safari experience and we had the most amazing time!! From the moment we arrived the umlani bushcamp staff were warm and welcoming! We loved the early morning and evening fires, getting to know the staff, and of course, the efforts that our guides made to point out animals and share interesting facts. The camp is homey, the food is delicious, and it made for the perfect way to get an authentic safari experience. My family and I would highly highly recommend Umlani to anyone!
This was our 4th safari in Kruger/Greater Kruger and by far Umlani was our most enjoyable authentic bush experience ever. The staff was so welcoming, the accommodations very authentic and comfortable, we loved the outside shower. We loved the campfire in the morning with coffee/tea prior to game drive, game drives were so enjoyable with the vehicles, small groups, and we really appreciated how few jeeps that would be at one big kill or pride of lions not 20 jeeps!!! Everything was a touch of class, from "bush babies" and blankets to delicious meals with all the lovely touches. We will now make Umlani our return safari destination, best ever!!!!
This was my second visit to Umlani Bush Camp, if you are looking to breakaway from the stresses of everyday life then Umlani is the place to be. A complete immersive and off the grid experience, your senses will be heightened as the sun sets. Well done to Marco and family for creating such a special place for us to enjoy.
