2022 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort. Ten luxury build canvas en-suite tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night making Kapama Buffalo Camp a truly authentic way to experience the African bush.

Our stay at the Kapama Buffalo Camp was absolutly perfect. The Highlight was the Game Drive (2x per day) with our Rangers Jeffrey and Temba. Our tent, the food and all the people are great at Buffalo Camp!

Hotel's Favourite
Professional managed small safari camp (no children). Very good safari guide Jeffrey and tracker Foster. Creative excellent food (for us always too much). Noble, modern tents with large balcony. Beautiful swimming pool to relax.

The staff at Kapama Buffalo Camp were attentive, helpful, & extremely kind. Clare, Langu, & Thandeka made sure we had the best stay. Our game drives with Joas & Thamba were amazing! Saw all Big 5 & more! Our meals were superb with more food then we could possibly eat in a day. The wait staff was friendly and worked to ensure our meals were fabulous. Highly recommend the Kapama Private Game Reserve Buffalo Camp. A perfect place to relax and experience nature at its best! Hope to return!

We all loved Kapama Buffalo Camp, a small lodge with a very personal sense of attention. The tents are incredible, other than the wind blowing on the canvas you would not believe you were in a tent. Huge, king-size bed, bath, shower, double sinks, balcony overlooking the trees. The restaurant and lounge areas are beautiful and comfortable. The food is very good. The staff are very attentive and helpful. Our game ranger Joas was outstanding; his knowledge, humour, driving skills incredible. Our spotter Temba was delightful and very skillful. Kapama as a reserve is excellent. We had superb sightings: huge herds of elephant and plains animals, lions galore, leopard, hyena and cubs, superb Birdlife - almost 200 species seen. Highly recommend this camp. Do take hat, gloves and layers as early morning drives and last bit at night are very chilly!

My husband and I had the most INCREDIBLE experience at Kapama Buffalo Camp. From start to finish every detail is perfectly planned. The food is absolutely out of this world. The treehouse / tent room was beautiful. The safari drives were once in a lifetime ! Have to shout out our guide Ben who gave us the best experience we could have asked for. Every staff member was so friendly and kind and the service was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about this place and if I could rate it higher I would!

Getting to enjoy the Kapama experience is a privilege. It completely surpassed our expectations, especially the game drives and game viewing, and we are already looking forward to our next visit there!

This was our first trip to Africa and first time going on game rides and everything about this place exceeded our expectations. The entire staff make you feel so welcome. We stayed in the Buffalo camp which was nice and quiet. The staff oriented us on our arrival and we got settled in our “tent”. The tent was better than some hotels I stay in. Fabulous shower, tub, comfortable bed and a balcony where we sat out and watched Impala and monkeys play. Our guide and tracker, Jeffery and Themba, we’re amazing. They were fun, informative, and got us to see all of the big 5 and then some! They were truly the best! There is so much attention to detail. Every meal is a 5 star meal, the staff is accommodating to food preferences. Game drives offered a stop for drinks and stretching legs. They had bankers and hot water bottles for the chilly morning drives. Our beds were turned down each night with a hot water bottle at our feet! (It was winter months when we went—48 F at night) i cannot say enough good things about this place and staff.

If you're going to invest in a safari experience, this is the place to do it. The food, the service, the setting, the facilities and the game drives were all incredible. The camp is small and has an intimate feel, with super luxurious tents, and there's no detail they haven't thought of!

Amazing Safari and outstanding service can both be found at Kapama. The staff are attentive and proactive. I loved the hot water bottle they prepared for each person for the cold morning game drive. I would suggest packing a beanie or some type of ear covering as your ears get cold on safari.
