Set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River is one of Kapama's most secluded and prestigious safari camps named Karula. Karula means "place of peace" in the native tongue, and soon after your arrival, you will know exactly why this name is just so perfect for this magnificent luxury safari camp. Kapama Karula has twelve superior luxury villas, each exquisitely decorated with generous private space, each with a private outside deck and a large swimming pool, which is heated in the chillier months for year-round swimming. Two of the superior luxury villas are purpose-built for families. The open plan lounge and bar area, with floor to ceiling glass doors, illustrates the perfect balance with elegant light colours. The award-winning on-site Karula Spa & Wellness Centre offers a range of fitness equipment as well as health and beauty treatments in four deluxe treatment rooms. Head out on an exciting game drive where this Private Big Five Reserve offers the finest game viewing safari experience the Greater Kruger area has to offer.

This Safari Camp is exquisite. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The lodges are superb...private, spacious, well laid out, all the 'creature' comforts/facilities, fabulous wildlife literally on your doorstep/deck, in the heart of the bush, 5 star all the way. The staff are equally fabulous - they cannot do enough for you and are so generous with their time on safari, so humble and so well mannered - they go out of their way to make your stay an amazing and memorable experience. The food is 5 star! We ate like kings for our entire stay...every dish was presented so well and the variety of food to choose from was amazing, even the fish selections were divine. The safari experience, although our first, has ensured we will return as soon as we can to this amazing place. We were so lucky with our guides and the once in a life-time opportunities we had - especially an amazing up close encounter with a young bull elephant (a little terrifying but exhilarating). The guides were knowledgeable, enthusiastic about the animals and equally about the customer experience. Special shout out to Bongani and Wonder who made this so special. What we saw and experienced on this trip was like no other experience we have had..EVER (and this was also the feedback we received from other travellers at the lodge who have gone on safari many times)! We cannot recommend it more highly and would absolutely compel you to treat yourselves and book your safari here. You will never regret it. We will remember our trip forever and a huge thanks to the staff at Kapama Karula for all they did for us. (We stayed October 21 - unfortunately life got in the way and i never sat down to write this review however, am currently doing a photobook off our trip and felt the need to share our experience with future travellers to this destination). Book it...and savour every divine moment!

Hotel's Favourite
Our vacation at Kapama Karula far exceeded our expectations. The level of service and attention to detail was incredible. Every meal we had was amazing and it felt like we were eating at a 5-star restaurant for every meal. Also, Abrie and Elvis made our game drives memorable by answering all of our questions and teaching us about the wildlife. By the end of our stay, we had seen all of the Big 5 and had multiple leopard sightings. This was truly a 5 star experience and we will definitely be staying at Kapama Karula in the future!

Kapama Karula is one of 5 lodges on the privately owned Kapama Reserve adjoining Kruger National Park. Everything about the resort is amazing but they continue to work on it to make it more amazing. The "rooms" are really houses like you might see in Architectural Digest with king size beds, huge tubs and shower, sitting area and your own lap pool. Outside are trees with monkeys, a stream with antelope and an outdoor shower. The pictures you see online don't even show how nice these are. The staff are gracious and always listening for any indication of what you need. When we first came on property, we missed lunch. One of our mentioned how we thought "high tea" might include sandwiches, not just cookies, and next we knew we had warm chicken wraps! The food was really incredible. Gourmet and creative. We all gained weight. Wine and other spirits are available liberally. The spa was very good--nice massage. There is a spa pool open to all where you can have lunch in the midday break if you want a more social experience than your own room pool. The guides and trackers are just as excited as you are to find the animals which makes the drive experiences that much more memorable. The only negative is WiFi availability if you HAVE to communicate with the outside world. Because you are very remote, it was off on occasion. My advice...Don't plan on working! I booked this in a package so don't know exactly what it cost us but based on the resort's website, it is pretty expensive, so I rated Value only 4 stars. Don't let that keep you away!!

Our dream was to go on a safari in Africa and our stay at Kapama Karula Private Game Reserve met and exceeded our expectations. My wife and I were pampered from arrival to departure. Our villa was spectacular, delicious meals, and impeccable friendly service-constantly making sure we had everything we needed. Of course, the highlight were the safaris. With two safaris a day for 3 hours each (a total of 6 safaris), I actually didn’t care what I saw on the last one. We ended up in the middle of a herd of elephants, watching a baby breast feeding. We got to see all the “big five”-elephants, lions, rinos, buffalo, and leopards, plus giraffes, zebras, and many others. It could not have been more beautiful and exciting to be amongst these large wild animals in their own environment. Our ranger (Justice) and tracker (Elvis) made the safaris extraordinary-going out of their way to show us everything up close and personal, but never feeling unsafe at any point. This is an experience we will never forget.

Fantastic lodge, fantastic team, fantastic game drives. We stayed 4 nights at Kapama Karula Lodge and we are 100% satisfied! Everything is well organized, you are very well taken care of. Very professional and sustainable approach to host excellent game drives. You will not regret going to Kapama Karula Lodge. We can also recommend the flights with Kapama Air, perfect service upon arrival at JNB Airport even though our international flight arrived 1 hour late. Smooth and quick flight, special thanks to Keith, our pilot! Also thanks to everyone at Kapama Karula Lodge: Amos & Nandi from Reception, Abrie and Elvis as our ranger and tracker, to Erik from the restaurant and to all the other staff, everyone was very welcoming! Game drives: Our ranger Abrie and tracker Elvis are a fantastic team: We learned a lot from the all the comments of our observations, not just encountering the different animals, but getting information on why these animals show their different behavior. Thank you! We will be back....

Beautiful lodge but lacks some attention to detail which is unfortunate given the price tag associated with this reserve. In addition the reviews are great so we really were expecting 5* service and food. The positives- the room is beautiful including the bathroom and lounging area. One of the nicest we have seen and been to. Comes with a pool but that’s where the beauty ends. The pool in the room which should be heated was not we asked twice and were told someone would be sent, nothing. Not sure what purpose a cold pool serves in winter. When the room is cleaned the drinks are not restocked, again little details we had to ask. Food is just poor quality. Unfortunately the quality and food served leaves one feeling you in a 3 star establishment. We arrived relatively late (3.30om) & was offered lunch. I ordered kingklip served chips and peas, my husband ordered steak and chips requested medium rare . When the food was served, the steak was dry & cold and it was clear that it was not prepared when ordered. The kingklip was served with no sides and was forgotten. We returned the steak : chips & asked where was the sides for the fish. 5 minutes later the chips that was sent back with the steak was being served to me cold and sloppy. We returned it. Dinner was at the Boma. Chicken, beef boerewors, and kingklip. A variety of salads and dessert. We have been to other game parks and the food offered especially a barbecue comes with variety. Chicken & boerewors feels like you in a low end establishment and is not what you expecting. Overcooked chicken, veggies overcooked that we sent everything back and just had dessert. Presenting food that looks nice is one thing , ensuring it’s edible is another… Breakfast was great with really no complaints. The game drive was magnificent and the team very accommodating. Bongani and Mike were most pleasant and informative. Loveness who was assigned to us was kind, patient and very polite. Unfortunately I can’t say we bowled over. I chose this lodge for our 10th anniversary and sadly can’t say I’m very impressed. The value associated with what one gets is not worth the price unfortunately.

The Kapama Karula is fantastic. If I could give this lodge more than 5 stars, I would. Everything about our stay from the moment we arrived to the time we left was just perfect. Staff, facilities, rooms, cuisine, game drives and spa!! - all was more than 5 star. We saw the big five in our first day! I would highly recommend this hotel. This oasis cannot be faulted !!! Thank you to the entire team at Karula Kamp
