Wow, Honeyguide delivered more than we imagined! The accommodations were so comfortable, the food terrific and the staff so hospitable! The Game Drives were unbelievable and we saw the Big 5 a few times over. Our guide, Brilliance, was so knowledgeable and even was able to take us to a cheetah and leopards, which are sometimes tricky to find. The elephants at the pool really stole the show! The experience was magical from start to finish!

I spent hours and hours (probably 20 in total) deciding where I wanted to go on Safari in SA and all my research led me to this camp and let me tell you: This camp delivered!!!!!! My wife and I have traveled the world and have done some amazing things but this was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. The staff was phenomenal, the food was amazing, and our guide, Brilliant, was an absolute game changer. He is not only one of the most amazing people that I have ever met but He was an exceptional guide. It's almost as if he enjoyed seeing the animals as much as we do and that is much made it so enjoyable! There were a number of us in our group who REALLY wanted to see a leopard and Brilliant worked magic to make it happen by racing from one side of the reserve to the other. I cannot put into words how pleasant of an experience this was. It honestly changed my life and I cannot wait to come back. - Jacob and Olivia Johnson

Our most recent 7 night stay at Mantobeni was magnificent and suited our safari sensibilities perfectly. This was our 2nd visit having loved our 1st experience here back in 2019. With it being an unfenced camp this place is not for the faint of heart or for those seeking a sanitised overly luxurious 'hotel in the bush' type experience. However if you want an authentic, wild thrill ride in a world class game reserve and to be looked after diligently by some of the loveliest people you could ever wish to meet, then you will fall in love with Mantobeni like we have. Our Meru style tented accommodation was comfortable and in keeping with the ethos of the camp. As Mantobeni is completely unfenced from the surrounding Manyeleti reserve, wild animals can and will pass by at times. We had Impala, Elephant, Giraffe, monkeys and even a cheeky Hyena visit camp throughout our stay and tracks found in camp of many more beside including Leopard and Lion. The common area at Mantobeni has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. It was a vast and welcome improvement on what was previously in place as it afforded much more space for guests to congregate without ever feeling crammed in during meal times or at the pool/bar area. Their are numerous valid selling points for Mantobeni but the USP is surely the near daily occurrence of Elephants arriving to drink from the swimming pool. An absolutely mesmerising and magical guest experience. It was also amusing to see other guests stranded in Mantobeni's excellent elevated hide which sits between the water hole and the swimming pool. If you find yourself up there when the Ellies arrive then you may be running the risk of missing lunch or even a game drive depending on how long these magnificent creatures decide to hang around. The meals and food in general was excellent particularly breakfast and dinner. The serving staff were amazing with a special thanks to Pat for keeping us watered throughout with G&Ts and to Mumsie, an absolute gem of a woman who treated us to an extra special surprise private dinner back at out tent on our final night. A lovelier woman you could not hope to meet and an absolute asset to Honeyguide and Mantobeni no doubt. Mumsie aside, the star of the show was our Guide Michael, who was both our guide and tracker for 7 nights/14 game drives. I do hope Honeyguide revisit their current policy not to staff trackers at the lodge, as I feel having both does elevate the overall guest experience. However, Michael flew solo absolutely brilliantly and worked tirelessly for us, very often going above and beyond by extending our time out on drive in order to get us to those special sightings as we explored the magnificent Manyeleti reserve. We loved his passion, enthusiasm, dry sense of humour and willingness to do all he could to make our trip special. He like Mumsie and Pat, are an absolute asset to the lodge. The game viewing was unbelievably good. We have done a number of safaris over the years and this was our 3rd time staying in the Manyeleti overall and each time the viewing experience has been spectacular. The reserve is world class and for those in the know, it remains excellent value compared to neighbouring surrounding reserves. Furthermore, it is also steeped in a history and ethos which you as a guest learn and are able to in some small way help to support the local community. Over 14 drives we witnessed so many memorable sightings including 3 separate sightings of African Wild Dog. We also had multiple White Rhino, Leopard and every animal imaginable minus cheetah, which eluded us on this occasion. This really is Lion country with 4 prides and up to 60 lions traversing the reserve at any given time. If Sabi is the go to reserve to observe Leopard then for me Manyeleti is its equivalent for observing and being privy to varying lion behaviour. We saw various members of the Mbiri pride on over 10 separate occasions, including numerous sightings of the dominant male who was and is the most impressive male lion I've ever spent time with. We saw lions on nearly ever game drive, sometimes multiple prides on the same game drive. We got to see them hunt buffalo, eat numerous Zebra kills, trying to climb a tree to steal a Leopard kill or fabled 'sleeping' Impala. We had them at close quarters, within arms length of the vehicle and even had our sundowner stop interrupted on not onw but two occasions by... yes you guessed it, lions from the Mbiri pride. The Manyeleti has is become my favourite reserve in the Greater Kruger area and thankfully has thus far managed to avoid the internal politics which blight some of the neighbouring reserves, Currently nearly each Manyeleti lodge can traverse almost the full 23 000 hectares which really shows not only in the diversity of landscape you are able to witness but also to the wildlife dynamics and consistency of high quality game viewing throughout almost every game drive experience. Overall, we would and will return to Mantobeni in a heartbeat. We love that the reserve is firmly rooted in the community and largely staffed by local people which has a positive impact on the lives of those working there and their families. In terms of an authentic safari experience and value for money game viewing experience then it is difficult to beat.

Checked out early because of an incident with money being taken out of my wallet. The management first tried to blame the monkeys. When I told them I was not convinced that the monkeys only were interested in taking my south African Rand and not any of the paper receipts or American dollars I had in my wallet, then Johan, the GM tried to make say I was making it up. Which would have been tolerable if he hadn't such a sarcastic and dismissive attitude. I don't know if he is lacking experience or lacking capability or he's just racist but I knew he was not professional when he told me he could teach me how to use the in room safe as if it were too difficult for me to use on my own. He acted like he was doing me some type of favor by not charging me for the day that I was not staying there because I was checking out early. Johan has the courtesy of a DMV worker and with him in charge mantobeni will only continue to get people booking because of their south african promo that they're running not because they truly offer an exceptional experience. If you are considering this place I would strongly urge you research other places first. Johan WILL ruin the experience.

Dear JaeJae642, Thank you for your feedback. At check-in, all guests are informed of the importance of closing the tents and encouraged to use our safes in the tents for their valuables including any cash they may have at hand. The safe was confirmed to have been working during the time you reported the alleged theft. We are situated in an unfenced park and after a review of the incident, there were clear signs of wildlife that had entered the tent. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused. From past reviews & guest feedback, it is clear that we do strive to ensure that all our guests are well taken care of and have a great experience with us. It is our deepest regret that your experience with us missed the mark, and we will learn from this so that we can improve our service. Thank you. Kind regards,

My husband and I stayed at the Mantobeni camp as part of our honeymoon trip. This was our first time in South Africa and our first safari, and it more than exceeded our expectations. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, and the food was incredible! We loved the group dining experience as it allowed us to meet others from all over the world and fully enjoyed our glamping experience in the luxury tents. Michael was our safari guide and he truly made the trip. He was so knowledgeable about the area and the animals, and went out of his way to make sure we saw everything. He even drove us from one end of the reserve to the other once he heard a cheetah had made a kill so that we could get in on the action! We couldn't have asked for a better first safari experience and we hope to be back at Mantobeni one day!

Amazing sightings on game drives with brilliant guide, Brilliant!! When I think of our stay at Khoka Moya, it is these sightings that first come to my mind. Just brilliant!! Hunting wild dogs, leopards, one of them Saseka, the most beautiful leopard I have seen, hoisting her kill up a tree, stunning male lion in the early morning light, a pride of lions feeding on a zebra kill, while a lioness sat next to our car, with her two cubs alternating beteen constantly moaning and complaining and suckling. And all this on 4 game drive only ! Add to the above, the constant visits by elephants to the waterhole infront of the Lodge dining room and outside the tents! The couple that was sharing the car with us had just arrived in Africa for the first time and they got to see all the above on their first 2 days of safari! The tent was comfortable and clean, the food was good and so was the service . The only thing I did not understand is that although they knew the electricity was off at 5am, when we were supposed to get ready for the morning game drive, there was no torch or other form of light in the tent. Not very thoughtful. Also, as the camp is children friendly, it could be that you find yourselves on a game drive with noisier passengers than you would like. I understand that Mantobeni Camp is maybe a better option in this case. Our game drives were so special that, after leaving, we immediately booked again for next year. A BIG thank you goes to Brilliant for all the wonderful sightings he gave us.

We were unfortunate that there was a large storm on our first night that changed the weather from hot and sunny on arrival to just plain wet for the next 4 days. Despite this we experienced some wonderful sightings, met some friendly fellow travellers, and were looked after by a lovely group of people. Being a tented camp, with almost continuous rain it was impossible to avoid feeling damp as there was no way to get away from it. The tents are spacious, but without any form of heating apart from electric blankets. April is meant to be in the dry season, but not this year. However, there is plenty to recommend Mantobeni. Top of the list has to be the staff. They are hard working and work long hours, but always have a smile and are happy to chat whenever you see them. We enjoyed all of the meals – a bit too much at times as you don’t want to stop when things are so good. Certainly no trouble spotting the big 5, and some wonderful close sightings. We saw some diverse scenery and habitats as well as a wide range of birds and animals. Our guide, Brilliant, often lived up to his name by being in the right place at the right time (2 leopards in one night!), as well as being the go-to man for getting people out of tricky situations when getting vehicles stuck in mud. I’m sure that this review would be even more positive if we had enjoyed different weather, but even in the wet it was an enjoyable and memorable experience.

We were lucky enough to stay in the Mantobeni camp and it was wonderful from start to finish. We had a three night stay which was the perfect amount of time to get settled and see all the animals. The elephants also pay a visit to the pool and water stop every day which is amazing. The food was great and all of the staff are so so lovely and friendly. Most importantly our guide Michael was just the best!! Super friendly, knowledgeable about all the different animals and funny, and made sure we saw all the animals (the big 5 and more), whilst still respecting them and giving them the space they deserve. Would definitely recommend, worth every penny. Would love to go again

I just completed my ninth visit to Honeyguide and I cannot put into words how amazing this place is. My most recent stay was a seven-night getaway. I was lucky to secure a tent at the Mantobeni camp. Upon arrival, I immediately fell in love with the comfort and surroundings of my tent (No. 5). It was spacious and was fully equipped with all the comforts of home. After an amazing lunch, we headed out for our first night game drive which delivered some of the best game viewing I had ever experienced. Every day/night continued with amazing sightings from leopard to cheetah to lion to rhino to elephant to cape buffalo to wild dog to bird life galore. I do have to stress, that this is not a zoo and nature will not deliver you a leopard kill on demand. So, with this being said, temper your expectations and let the bush come to you. Our guide on this trip was Lyton, whom I have before and is an expert at tracking down some of Africa's finest animals. But if he is not available do not worry as all their rangers are experts in the field and you will be in good hands. As I mentioned earlier, the food is out of this world. You will not starve, but instead be treated to five-star cuisine every single day. The staff here put a lot of effort to ensure a five-star experience. From the littlest detail to the cuisine, food, accommodations and exceptional safari there are simply no weak links. On a side note, I am in the process of booking another stay here in September!

The service, the accommodations, the food and drink, but mostly Michael! We did 8 game drives and every single one was absolutely fantastic. Our second day we saw all of the big five. He selected the best coffee/drink spots - we felt sorry for all of those that were stopped randomly on the side of the road. Each drive was planned inasmuch as one can plan for safari. He also led the “finds” almost every time for the other guides. To top it off he has the best sense of humor so we had fun on top of fun. The camp itself was clean and comfortable and beautiful. We enjoyed our meals and they accommodated my picky eating. The massages were amazing as well. The elephants and other animals visiting us on camp made for an even more exciting experience. Highly recommend visiting and requesting Michael for your guide!
