Everything was perfect from the time we were picked up at the airport by our prearranged driver to the final drop off. We Were greeted by friendly staff who took us to our unit (Wild Dogs). The suite had a bath with a tub and indoor and outdoor shower. The bed was comfortable and looked out to a large deck overlooking the savannah It was all very clean and spacious.Meals in the dining room were handled well with pre arranged seating and the food was plentiful and well prepared. "Cook" went out of her way to personally check with everyone to see if they had any special needs or dietary preferences. The game drives were exceptional and our tracker Cris was good at finding the animals. Our Ranger: Gabe, was the best. He was totally into the environment, was personable and professional with his explanations. We saw so many animals, close up that we did not anticipate. All The staff work together well and make guests seem like they are almost family. Leaving at the end, saying goodby to Gabe and the rest of the staff was a bit emotional. This was one of the best experiences we have had in a long time. The lodge, the animal sightings, the people..all made for a wonderful experience! We would never consider staying anywhere else.

We are staying at a nearby resort and Elephant Plains generator is running all the time and we can hear it EVERYWHERE in the Sabi Sands. Can’t imagine being a guest close to this. Eating on our deck now and we’ve needed to up our music volume to try and drown out the noise. How this is allowed in Sabi Sands for the money everyone is spending to stay here is unfortunate and I hope they change this soon for the animals and future guests.

This was our second visit to Elephant Plains and again we were spoiled by excellent and friendly service from the Lodge staff team, with particular compliments to 'Remember' for his warm and enthusiastic welcome; 'Ishmael' the friendly barman who went the extra mile to procure some sherry and champagne; to our ranger/driver 'Doctor' and our expert leopard tracker 'Colbert' who together gave us many hours of memorable game spotting - the big five of course and many more. Great place to revisit - smart and fitting in with the African bush surrounds.

This was our first safari experience and we are thrilled with our decision to stay at Elephant Plains. We were greeted warmly and enthusiastically by Remember, who checked us in and escorted us to our room. Ishmael made sure we were well taken care of and somehow manages to remember every guest (and their drink preferences!) The food was delicious, plentiful, and varied, and the chef makes sure to speak to every guest after every meal to ensure you are satisfied. Many of the guides stick around to chat and we enjoyed chatting with Gabe and Kayleigh, even though they weren't "our" guides! We stayed in the Zebra room (its own cabin, really) and enjoyed a huge deck and wide-open view of the grounds. The room was huge for two people and so comfortable. We're not birdwatchers but still found ourselves mesmerized by the bird life visible from our deck. During the "down time" between game drives, we were visited by a family of vervet monkeys and watched as elephants and many different species of antelope made their way across the field. Wifi is limited to the lounge/bar area, which is either a blessing or a nuisance depending on your attitude. We didn't mind for the most part- except maybe at night, when every rustle of the bushes/noise in the dark quickens your pace back to your room! Drinks (other than water/coffee/tea) are not included- again, we didn't mind as they are very reasonably priced, and helps to keep the overall price down compared to other lodges in the reserve. Now, the reason to visit Sabi Sands is the game viewing... and EP did not disappoint. While they can't control the wildlife (it is wild, after all!), the guides do their best to make sure every guest gets to see as much of their wish list as possible while still being respectful of the surrounding environment. We got closer than I dared hope to lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, zebras, giraffes, wild dogs, and so much more. We saw lionesses cuddling with their cubs, and the same lion family eating a fresh buffalo kill on our last day. We followed a leopardess through the bush at sunset as she looked for a mate. We watched the wild dogs begin their hunt, play-fighting with each other to get themselves energized. We saw a family of hyenas eating and playing in the comfort of their den. We were even privileged enough to see a family of rhinos (and appreciate the many anti-poaching efforts of the reserve to protect these beautiful animals). There were never more than two other vehicles at a sighting at any given time, and the guides do not drive over sensitive (burned) areas for better sightings. We were amazed by the skills and abilities of our tracker, Colbert, and our guide, Doctor. I mean, Colbert was able to locate a chameleon, in a tree, at night, from a moving vehicle! It's clear that they share a deep connection to this land and their knowledge of the reserve and its inhabitants is unparalleled. The vehicle itself was way more comfortable than I expected- a pleasant surprise given you spend 6-7 hours in it each day! They do tend to be quite full, which can be a challenge for photographers- I almost booked a different lodge hoping to have more open seats for the drives, but I needn't have worried. Even with 8 of the 9 seats occupied, I still got the amazing shots I was hoping for. Windy weather prevented us from doing the bush walk most days, but we were able to do one with Gabe and Doctor and we learned so much in a short hour. We flew in and out of Nelspruit airport, which was a bit of a drive- we booked a roundtrip transfer through EP and while the cost seemed high when booking, after experiencing the drive firsthand it was well worth it. I'm not sure I could have navigated it myself, and the service strike on the main road that occurred on our departure day would have certainly caused us to miss our return flight if we were self-driving. Thankfully we had an expert who knew the "back way"! Three nights was just about right- we wish we could have spent longer. I'm already dreaming about the day we can return to observe more of South Africa's incredible wildlife from the comfort of Elephant Plains!

As part of our South Africa trip, we visited Sabi Sands and stayed at the Elephant Lodge. Lorien was very helpful and responsive to our initial online enquiry. We arranged flights to the airstrip with Federal Airways, which was very convenient, as the lodge was only 20 mins away after a 1 hour flight in the light aircraft. We were collected at the airstrip and drove to the lodge, spotting some Impalas, Warthogs and Eagles before we even reached the lodge. The lodge itself is well appointed and tastefully decorated in ‘safari’ style with an amazing view over an area of the bush where elephants and antelope were already grazing. A warm welcome from the ever smiling Remember, who seems to be the center point of the lodge. Our ranger guide, Gabe, took us on two daily game drives along with Dumi the tracker. It was an amazing experience and we saw all of the big 5 up close, as well os giraffe, hippos, hyenas, wild dogs, jackals and even a honey badger. Gabe was a fantastic host and delivered the perfect mix of humour, bush craft information and enthusiasm to make even the coldest morning game drive fun. The food at the lodge was plentiful and very hearty and tasty, adding more than a few pounds to the flight back! Ishmael running the bar was ever on hand to offer a refreshment or two in the homely lounge bar. The lodge accommodation was fantastic and offered everything we needed for a few days of bush Luxury. This was something of a bucket list trip and certainly did not disappoint. The three nights we had at elephants lodge allowed us to get 6 game drives under our belt and this was the perfect amount of time, as each one delivered a different experience. Thoroughly recommended and wouldn’t hesitate to return again and spend more time with Gabe and his team.

Our stay at Elephant Plains Game Lodge was my second safari and my husband's first, so I really wanted his first experience to be awesome....and it WAS! This place is beautifully situated and appointed. Each lodge is probably larger than many homes. The food and service were top notch. The views unbeatable. And the safaris (thanks to our fabulous guide Tiaan and amazing tracker Dion) were unforgettable highlights of each day. We didn't just passively see things, we learned a great deal. We were never without something to keep us involved and interested, or to find a place of complete peaceful rest. Looking out our back doors to the open plains was like watching an every-changing screen saver...except it was real! I can't recommend this place enough.

We grandparents took our granddaughter and her parents along on this trip, and could not have been happier with our choice of Elephant Plains. Everyone who looked after us was so friendly and kind, especially Remember, and Gabe was a pleasure as our tracker. This lodge takes children, which was mainly why we stayed there, but next time we go back to Sabi Sands we will not bother with the other pricey places and just stay here. Our room was gorgeous and comfortable, the food was excellent, the lodge decks and pools were lovely and comfortable, the game drives were everything they should have been. Thank you Elephant Plains for making our stay feel like a family visit to a relative with a very cool place!

Stayed in the rondavel. Nice cool rooms with good views of the water holes. Food was good and the service was prompt. Our guide tiann and tracker Dion made our trip memorable with the incredible sightings. The lodge has 3 vehicles. Suggest to use all 3 even if all rooms are not full as 8 persons can be a little cramped and not ideal for photographers.
