Friendly owners. Check-in was a little slow, but ok. Motel has been in business for over 40 years, but pretty well maintained. Room was large & clean. A/C was good. Nice big flat-screen TV. Wi-Fi available, but slow from time-to-time. Beds were firm, but that's how I like mine. $70 for room with 2 queen beds. All-in-all, a decent place...

This is a hidden value motel. The price was less than $50, the room was adequate size with a Queen size bed. The bed was comfortable and clean smelling. The bathroom was older and needing some upkeep but was very adequate for the price and a one night stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

I had called ahead to make ask when the office closed. She told me to check in anytime and when I arrived I found she had stayed open late for us to check in. Very nice! The room was clean...although it was a little dated. The beds were hard and there was only 2 pillows per bed. It would have...

I was happy to arrive at Smokey Bear Motel in Capitan after getting stuck from the road block near Hondo. The check-in was a friendly and comforting experience. The room was nice too! Thank you! The family who owns this place was sweet the next morning as well, very helpful with advice on road conditions. Life savers!

In the past two months we have stayed at this hotel a couple of times, each time in a different room. The style in each room varies, the beds are a bit hard but after a day hunting a bed is a bed and you won't find any complaints from me on that. Wifi worked great for us. My biggest...

We checked in on the 21st late (about 7pm). Although busy, they had a room #125. Room was outstanding and clean, (beds a tad hard) but the carpet and tile and toilet were very very CLEAN. Flat Screen TV was good. Only complaint, WiFi was WEAK in this room. Smokey Bear Cafe 'next' door, different owners. GREAT place to eat...

The owners of this motel have really done a great job by adding charming details to the rooms! I like their "western furniture", the dark wood of the bed, the desk and the rocking chair, all made with wooden joints - haven't ever seen this in a motel! Far from average! One wall painted brownish to match the furniture. And...

Okay, as has been noted in other reviews, this place isn't fancy. If you're wanting the Hyatt or the Hilton, you won't be staying in Capitan, NM. That said, we have stayed multiple times here at the Smokey Bear, and occasionally for extended periods depending on how long we are in the area to hunt. The motel is ALWAYS clean,...

I had stayed at the Smokey Bear Motel 17 years ago, and, at that time, it was considered kind of old. So, do the math, it's an older motel. But it is clean, roomy, and comfortable. Upon checking in, the owners made us feel welcome and were genuinely happy that we were giving them business. We had reserved a room...

We stayed here by default after our b&b in Lincoln cratered on us. One of those happy accidents of the road. It's basically an old school no frills motel. The sleeping area and bathroom were both roomy. Good bed in the first, good shower with curved shower rod in the other. Wi-Fi connection was immediate. There was a coffee maker...
