We chose this hotel based on the good reviews but got very disappointed. We visited end of feb. 2020. We had to leave early, after one out of 3 nights because the hotel was too cold and a health risk. We could only move inside the hotel common rooms with outdoor coats and jackets We required another heater in the bathroom and to light the ovens in the hallways but there were only 2 ladies working in the hotel who could not speak English and the manager was absent from evening checkin until 2 pm next day. Only later in the day the in-house manger Sonam came to the hotel. We explained to her that we have to check out due to the freezing cold . She had no solution but would not reimburse the money for the 2 remaining nights or even try to find a middle ground. She refused us the right to talk to the manager who “makes the decisions . “ when I asked for the phone number and name. She was very rude and did not care at all about guests well-being. Even our suggestion to put a heater into the bathroom and to use an extension cord was right out rejected. We were the only guests and the entire hotel was Arctic cold. The rooms have no WiFi , it’s only in the lobby, PowerOutlets don’t work and we could not even make a tea, breakfast was fried rice with eggs. The manager did not apologize for the terrible service , kept the entire money for 2 more nights and we left in very bad terms. Worst hotel service experience ever Even our guide was very embarrassed about the manager Sonam’s attitude towards guests. We moved to the mountain lodge and it cost less than the village lodge Bumthang and it is as luxurious as a 5star Hotel with bathtub , modern spacious rooms, spa , great views and amnesties. Why it has a lower rating on google is not to understand. Maybe those are paid reviews . It clearly is two stars better. If you want value for money and a good and friendly service stay away from the village lodge Bumthang !…
Wonderful experience Food and service were awesome! Room and bathroom had heaters and the quilt was warm and cosy Expensive crockery was most unusual. It's these little touches that make village lodge a stand out !
Village lodge in Bhumthang , Bhutan is one of the top homely resorts in Bhutan . Therefore, travelers visiting Bhumthang should not miss their stay. Manger is friendly and staffs are polite with best services.
Wonderful staff and great food. We loved the wood burners on every floor and beautiful scenery. These people cannot do enough for you. Great walks around and a great base from which to explore Bumthang.
We stayed at the Village Lodge for 6 nights during two separate stays and enjoyed a wonderful time and an especially fond and memorable experience. The room is clean, spacious, simple, but tastefully decorated. It offers modern comfort with unparalleled warm hospitality. What makes the Village Lodge in Bumthang exceptional is its manager Sonam Dekey and her well trained staff who are attentive, helpful, and, always making sure that our needs and wishes are met with speed and satisfaction. Sonam manages the lodge with professionalism, high standards, and remarkable competency. We stayed on a full board basis. Cooking during our stay was done personally by Sonam because her chef was on a sick leave. Sonam took wonderful cares of us— she paid special attentions to our preference for food; meticulously created a menu for each meal that tailored to our taste and took full advantage of fresh vegetables grown in her organic garden. We had 12 meals in additions to breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed every dish she cooked for us. In fact, we had the most delicious home cooked food at the Village Lodge during our two-week trip in Bhutan. The Village Lodge in Bumthang is your home away from home to any independent travelers who are interested in unspoiled traditional village culture, delicious and authentic local food, unparalleled hospitality and warm friendship. My enthusiastic recommendation!…
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our tour of Bhutan. The room was very comfortable, extremely clean and firm, good for sleep beds. The hotel has different spaces. the lounge area is where we were greeted with tea and biscuits as we were given our rooms and told about the facility. This was also a comfortable space to wait for friends, use Skype and just have a rest. There were views of the mountains, sunrise and the surrounding country. It was also very convenient for all of our touring in this area. The staff were extremely helpful, especially with my dietary requirements. Sonam, the manager was most gracious, helpful and friendly. Our stay was another example of the calm, generous hospitality of the Bhutanese.
Don't get misguided by the name "The Village Lodge", this property will beat any upscale hotel property easily. We stayed there for two nights from June 6th and 7th. The staff is warm and friendly, kudos to James's Mom for managing the show very well, haven't come across a hotel professional like her. Room service is good and chef cooks super food. Undoubtedly the location is good close to a river front and Bumthang town.
Very cosy lodge, with different hide-away corners. Very friendly and helpfull team. Great food, super chef. Comfortable room, nice bathroom, rather hard matress. Only missing the possibility for a good espresso, cappuccino or latte...
We stayed here 2 nights in April. The first room we were given didn't have hot water (boiler problem), however we were moved to another room that did and the manageress made a point of coming and talking to us about it and apologising for the inconvenience, which was a nice touch. Food was wonderful - again the manageress came to see us at dinner and noted what we did and didn't like for the next night. Lovely rooms and the wonderful underfloor heating in the bathroom. Very comfortable bed! Outside space on each floor with cushions as a communal area. Lovely dining room with a very warming wood burner at one end. The only thing that could make this place better is wifi in the rooms - the last thing you need after a long day is to have to sit in the lobby (albeit a very nice lobby) to read your emails etc. Another nice touch would be a fridge in the room.…
Village Lodge Bumthang was a jewel to experience. The interior of the lodge is spacious and decorated in a very cozy, albeit sparse manner--a wonderful combination. The dining room offers space to spread out comfortably with companions with a log stove/hot stones to warm the space during cold temperatures. There is a common area on each floor with a nook that contains large floor pillows and a log stove for relaxing alone or with others. The bedrooms are simple and very comfortable, and the bathrooms have newly renovated features, like modern showers and heated floors. What also made the lodge 5 stars was the service of the staff: everyone was very friendly, gracious, attentive, and helpful. This included the manager, who was present on site each day and who checked in on us to ensure that our needs were met. One member of our small group needed vegan food, and the manager and chef made sure there were delicious options at every meal. In fact the food at The Village Lodge Bumthang was 10 stars out of 5. Every dish was so delicious (served "family style") that we wished we had 5 stomachs so that we could keep eating! If I were ever in that part of Bhutan again, I would definitely return to The Village Lodge Bumthang--and recommend it highly.…
