We spent 3 nights at this hotel during our two-week tour around Bhutan, and this was the worst hotel we stayed at. We were not expecting luxury but at least a friendly and cosy family run hotel, however, it was very cold and soulless. Perhaps it comes alive when its conference facilities are being used or when there are more than 6 guests staying here. We acknowledge that we stayed here when tourists were limited due to coronavirus but some of our experiences were due to the physical nature of the hotel that would exist anyway. There was no welcome on arrival, there was no heating in the communal areas, and the main toilets had no locks on the doors. When we came down to dinner we thought it odd that guests had their coats on or had brought blankets from the room. However, this was because there was no heating in the bar, the reception fire was not lit, and the restaurant wood burner was only on for short periods. There were not many guests staying here and so we though that the meals would be a bit more elaborate or cooked to order. On two nights we had rice, potatoes, noodles and vegetable soup, which was all very bland. On the third night ferns and cheese were added for variety. We were accommodated in the new building. The rooms are very spacious and the bed was large and comfortable. We found that there was only enough hot water for one shower and the next person had to wait 15 minutes for it to heat up again. Seemingly, some rooms have a bath so I do not know if they have better water supply. The rooms have a simple open clothes-hanging space, no drawers, no safe, and no heating except for a small electric fire. Everything is timber clad and a relative commented on FaceTime that it looked like we were staying in a shed. One safety point is that the timber floors in the large bathrooms are varnished, which makes them very slippery when wet. The best point was its proximity to the airport, which meant we could leave easily.…
All is super good here, bedrooms are very large , confortable with sitting area They have extended the hotel so all the rooms are new Large bathroom with shower and bath Nice settings outside Nice decoration Nice food Super kind staff
Came here for dinner in preference to Ugyen Ling and so pleased we did . Lovely warm room ; good ambiance and good service . Meal ( the usual tourist menu) was served hot to our table in little bowls , but all dishes seemed better than we’ve had elsewhere on this trip. Better quality of beef cut for the main . Hotel looks a good place to stay with a ski chalet look and feel . Would opt over Ugyen Ling next time .
The hotel is slightly off the Bumthang city center. We stayed in the new wing of the hotel which should be nice, the wall was decorated with rocks giving it a more rustic feel. The room was big but because of its size and the dark rock, it really needs better lighting. Not sure if it was our room, some of the work seemed unfinished with some wire exposed. If the management could attend to the minor details, it would be a very nice hotel.
This hotel has a beautiful new building with stone walls, wood trim and walls thick enough to not hear the dogs barking! Our room was very spacious and clean and the food was a cut above the standard Bhutan buffet - spring rolls, wild mushrooms and beef. We had some wifi in the room and the location in the Bumthang valley is very central.
We arrived by bike from Trongsa and were expecting the quality of Hotels to reduce as we headed East. After a short descent and riding along the massive river to Jakar we were amazed by the size of the new building of this Hotel. Rooms were massive and beautifully decorated, our second floor room had great views, a seating area and a separate bathroom. Service as with everywhere in Bhutan was great and so was the restaurant. Food was buffet style and very tasty. Shame we could only stay for one night.
I have been to Bumthang many times and always stay at mountain lodge. It has large spacious and warm rooms, a lovely fire in reception, great bar and beautiful dining room with marvellous food. The staff at so friendly and helpful. It really is wonderful to come home there after a day trekking in the valley
Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our 18 day tour. Came at the end of 5 days on the hop and after a Homestay at Ura village so a bit of luxury was appreciated . The roads in Eastern Bhutan are really horrible and each journey a bumpy, frightening nightmare. Grateful we are flying from here to Paro. The hotel reminds me of a large ski chalet with lots of wood and stone walls and a lovely open fire in the lobby. The rooms are huge with a sitting area with a nice view. Other rooms had a kettle but not ours (216 ) Large bathroom with loads of hot water but sadly only 2 small soaps and 2 small sachets if cheap shampoo - for a hotel of this quality I would expect some much nicer complimentary toiletries. WiFi in the rooms was poor but good in reception and restaurant Food for breakfast was lacking in variety - just eggs, porridge, yoghurt and toast although the local cheese was a nice addition. We did ask for some fruit and they bought some bananas and apple. Dinner was the same as it is in every single hotel and restaurant in Bhutan - rice, oily mixed vegetables and bits of dry, bony chicken and chilies. Being at the end of our trip and unable to face another meal of this staple we headed to a cafe in town! Highly recommend the spa - had a wonderful hot stone massage and others in group also enjoyed other varieties of massage Staff are extremely friendly and helpful …
I stayed here for 2 nights on april 2018 with some friends. The building is new and rooms are clean and spacious. Landscape around (Bumthang Valley) is really awesome and atmosphere in the lodge is very relaxing. The restaurant is also very good with tasty local dishes. Highly recommended.
I stayed at Mountain Lodge again during my 2nd visit to Bumthang and I did not regretted. Mountain Lodge is a modern hotel and is still well maintained. This time I had a corner room on the 2nd floor instead of the 4th floor. This time my room had a better view of the mountain as I requested a room with a good view. The tourist season was still slow in mid March so the hotel was not busy. The room was large and clean. The bathroom was also large and clean. The restaurant was very cozy with an old fashioned fireplace. The lobby has a nice modern fireplace which was nice for gatherings after dinner time. This time I also tried the hot stone bath which was very nice. An iced cold bottle water was provided to quench the thirst and to cool off. The service was always impeccable. The same manager was present both times I stayed at Mountain Lodge (once in Oct 2016 and this time in March 2018). One nice feature of the Mountain Lodge is stairs with very low steps. The walk around the hotel was pleasant and beautiful.…
