Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Dekyil Guest House for 3 nights -- it was a wonderful experience. The rooms are large and well appointed, including modern bathrooms with heated floors, big bathtubs, great showers. Wifi was very fast as well (not always the case in Bhutan). But what makes the Dekyil really special is the incredible customer service. The owner and staff do an amazing job making you feel welcome and taken care of and the breakfasts and dinners are excellent, including traditional Bhutanese food and other cuisines as well. Location is also very convenient to the town of Bumthang.

We chose Dekyil Guesthouse for our stay after reading numerous positive reviews, and it turned out to be an excellent decision! Our 3-night stay was truly enjoyable and memorable.
We stayed in a second-floor corner room, which offered a view of the neighboring houses and the majestic Dzong in a distance. The room itself was simple, of reasonable size, and well-kept with pinewood touches and furniture. A standout feature was the heated bathroom floor—it added so much comfort during showers, especially compared to other larger and more elaborately furnished guesthouses we visited.
Mdm Karma and her daughter were incredibly warm and attentive hosts, always ensuring we felt at home and being take care of. Their staff was equally impressive—well-trained and always helpful to meet our needs. We must also highlight Mdm Karma’s cooking, which was the best we had during our entire 10-day trip to Bhutan. Every meal she prepared was flavorful and lovingly made, adding to the charm of our stay.
If you're looking for a guesthouse with thoughtful hospitality, cozy accommodations, and delicious home-cooked meals, Dekyil Guesthouse is a fantastic choice. We highly recommend it!

So far the best accommodations I've had in Bhutan. The guesthouse itself is small, simple but has a lovely, authentic looking design made of wood and sits on a small hill overlooking the valley. Inside the rooms are fully equipped with clean, comfortable amenities such as heaters, hot shower and even their own brand of toiletries.
The staff demonstrated typical Bhutanese hospitality- showing extreme attentiveness and service especially during meal times. The owners also make it a point to chat to you during breakfast and when I was shown my room, the owner herself gave me a simple briefing of how things worked. Such personal attention cannot be taken for granted and it really enhances the guest experience.
I highly recommend this place and will stay here again when I come back to Bumthang and assuming they have space... cuz apparently they're very popular!

A home away from home. Karma and her family make you feel so welcome! The guest house is located atop a short dirt path from town so you can easily walk in and explore. And when you arrive the stove is heating the main room and you are offered hot butter tea. Prepping and eating food is a centerpiece of the experience. Both nights we were invited into the kitchen to watch and learn. On the second night we help make Mo Mo ( dumplings). Karma was a very patient teacher. The other guests were very friendly and as is common in Bhutan many are following a similar itinerary so it’s easy to have conversation and feel like you are part of a community. The food is delicious , the service great.

This is a family owned and run business that really makes you feel welcome. Rooms are good spacious and very clean, all made of wood and with adequate furnitures for a pleasant stay. The WC is modern and large with hot water and good water pressure. The internet is of good quality, available in both floors and in the restaurant as well. Breakfast is top knotch with corn flakes, buckwheat pancakes (a local product) , jam, local butter, juices, local milk, fresh bread toasts, fruit and also omelets, fried rice and Indian breakfast options are also available. Food is excellent being lunch or dinner, very good quality food, large quantity, cooking is excellent being it veg or non veg and they cater also to spicy challenged people like myself.
It is located not far from the town on a hill and very easy to find and has a generous parking lot. Spent 4 nights there and would recommend it without a doubt.

Located within footsteps of the Chamkhar downtown where you can shop for souvenirs or play a game of snooker with the locals, this family owned and managed guesthouse has scenic views of the Bumthang valley as well as the Jakar Dzong. The rooms are basic, clean, spacious, and offer modern amenities, including a heated bathroom floor. Karma, the mom, invited me into her kitchen to help prepare the local foods served at dinnertime. She patiently helped me as I struggled to fold properly the Bhutanese MoMo dumplings. Kinley, the daughter, helps in the kitchen as well as manages the day to day operations of the guesthouse. They went out of their way to make a Bhutanese child who I sponsor feel right at home by moving a large TV into the dining room, situating it near the pot belly stove so we could stay warm during the chilly, rainy day. While watching a movie, they served snacks, noodles, as well as drinks. They really made our day together even more special. Paying in cash with newer bills is appreciated. The guesthouse has ample parking. This visit to Bumthang was my second one in less than 1 year and, this time, I opted to not stay at the local five star luxury hotel and instead stayed at the Dekyil Guest House. Indeed, I would stay with Karma and Kinley again because they provide a home away from home style environment.

We had a wonderful stay at Dekyil Guest House. The room, while basic, was spacious and very clean. What made our stay here special was the owner and her daughter. They were incredibly warm and charming. They even welcomed me into the kitchen to help prepare some local dishes as well as allowing me to make one of my favorite dishes (albeit a modified version given available items) for them to try. The family is hard working, concerned for our comfort and simply a pleasure to interact with. If you are looking for a more local experience, I highly recommend staying here.

Heartfelt appreciation to Karma, her daughter, and Sonam, 1 of the staff, for their warmth and welcoming hospitality to our group.
During our stay, we had an impromptu idea and a craving for hot, warm soup for the cold day. With the help of our guide, he asked Karma for permission for us to get into the kitchen for our cooking, and she gladly said YES. After marketing, back to the guesthouse, we casually explored the idea of having a hotpot instead, and to our surprise, Karma said YES too!Â
A big thank you to Karma, the hotpot dinner was the best dinner of our trip! Karma and her team are not hesitant to go all the way out to make their guests feel at home.

We came just after COVID restrictions ended. We were staying mostly at luxury 5 star properties in Bhutan but really wanted to have at least one stay in a more intimate guest house. Dekyil guest house had a great location in Bumthang and the hospitality and meals were fantastic. Would recommend it as a change-up over a more generic place like the Aman resort (also you'll save a pile and can splurge in other places).

On your trip to Bhutan, don't miss this wonderful guest house in Bumthang. The room was very cozy and well-appointed. The hostess Kinley Gyem was absolutely wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent and authentic; it was some of the best food we had during our 12 days touring throughout Bhutan.
