This is a charming B&B. We received a lovely welcome form the four massive dogs who were very gentle and friendly. The rooms are very spacious and well thought-out. There are beautiful, quaint mosaics on the walls which are delightful. The breakfast was great and the beds were comfortable. A very central but peaceful location. We had a lovely stay.

We traveled by car from George to Stellenbosch and made a 1-night stop at Old Thatch Lodge to break the journey. This B&B was an excellent choice. The breakfast was amazing: a good selection of fruits, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, toast with tasty marmalade (and jam), fruit juice, tea/coffee and champagne. I liked the little touches i.e. small flowers on the...

During our two week holiday going from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth along the Garden Route, my boyfriend and I stayed at Old Thatch Lodge for one night. Location: Located in the centre of Swellendam and directly en route to the Klein Karoo, Old Thatch Lodge is the perfect place to stop. Rooms: It wouldn’t do the place justice to...

We happened upon this guest house as we were meandering along the Garden Route. A must stay and we had an amazing experience. The owner, Karin, was extremely kind to us and provided helpful advice to help us out as we made our way. While there was a bit of a mix up with our reservation, Karin settled it quickly...

We stayed at the Old Thatch Lodge for 3 nights. It was a wonderful, relaxing stay. Karin went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We stayed in 2 different rooms - both were lovely. Breakfast on the porch was a great experience, the garden fantastic. However, too many dogs are roaming the property. The dogs are all...

Beautiful old building. Great African decor. Host welcoming and provided a lot of local information. Delicious breakfast. A log fire in the living area. Being winter it was a little cold in the bedrooms.

Very nice old-style lodge. A little cold for winter, which is not surprising given its age, but I am sure it would be lovely to stay there in summer. The location is good. The service was decent and Karin was a very gracious and helpful host. Some better TV options for the evening would have been nice, though.

We stopped off in Swellendam on our way to Knysna. Karin was a lovely host. When we arrived she saw that we were traveling with our 3-year-old and upgraded us to a bigger room at no extra cost. The guest house is beautifully decorated and includes spacious living room and great kitchen. The room was comfortable and we had no...
