Unpretentious, good value for money meals to be had on the stoep of the Swartberg Hotel. Look out for specials on the black board. They also stock some nice craft beers from Mossel Bay. Only one negative - Service can be slow when waiters prefer to chat with one another rather than seeing to tables.

This is a charming place for lunch on the way to Swartberg Pass, and we ate inside because it was over 90 degrees F, but still plenty of people were enjoying dining on the porch. The food was excellent, the service a little slow, but who cares when it is an overall good experience.

Shabby chic in this hotel, though I've only lunched there (not stayed) several times. Excellent steaks and lamb, charming service and fair value. A perfect wind-down after the excitement of the Swartberg Pass!

Stayed here with friends for two nights. The hotel is characterful and well maintained with a very attractive swimming pool area in the garden at the rear. Also immaculately kept and adequately equipped gym room with shower facilities; an unexpected find in this type of period hotel. Comfortable lounge and bar area is available for late afternoon tea, when the...

We did not stay in the Hotel, but we dined in the Victoria Room. Like many other old buildings in town, the Swartberg Hotel has its own resident ghosts. However, only this hotel boasts haunted paintings too. When dining in the Victoria Room, if you have a good look at the two large oil paintings (by Frank Hider, 1861 –...

The hotel is a lovely period building which gives you a feeling of yesterday, the staff were happy for us the had a look around the hotel lordy bar and grounds. The cafe is part of the same building to the left of the hotel. We had a light lunch of...

A meal enjoyed on the stoep of the hotel, was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and well trained. It is clearly a well known restaurant for visitors. We took a walk through the hotel lounge and outside to the swimming pool which was all very clean and well maintained. We did find the rates per night a bit expensive...

This is a lovely restaurant in this gorgeous town. It is part of a hotel but you can book the dinner separately if you stay in another guest house. The food is excellent and the staff is kind and helpful. The Victorian dinning room is beautiful. A great place to dine.

I was touring the area by motorcycle and needed an affordable place to stay. The rate was really good and included breakfast. I took a single bed room and did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised by the room, and cleanliness. The breakfast was really good, with good variety and cooked options and I ate dinner at the hotel...

If you're looking for a lovely meal, I'd suggest you keep looking. By all means the hotel interiors etc is lovely and certainly worth a visit. Hell have a drink even. But I'd skip the food. Grossly underwhelming and definitely not worth it unfortunately.
