Chapter House Boutique Hotel is one of the most exciting destinations in the Franschhoek town center, located just a few minutes’ walk from the very many wonderful and award-winning restaurants that Franschhoek has to offer. This hotel is soaked in history and is a very significant building in the history of this charming town. Originally built as a Mission House in 1888, and later serving as the village school right up until 1974, this house has chapters filled with stories to tell. Recent renovations have captured many of the original features and restored them to their former glory, and the décor is simply captivating, impressively combining heritage design with local creativity, charm, and color. All rooms have an impressive range of facilities including a king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, in-room safe, LED TV, free Wi-fi, and air conditioning. Included in the services offered are a 24-hour concierge, an in-room spa service, a day room, breakfast served until 11 am, an all-day dining menu, and a full-service bar. Chapter House Boutique Hotel is part of The Living Journey Collection and beautifully compliments The Tree House Boutique Hotel in Cape Town, Zest Boutique Hotel in Cape Town, One Marine Drive Boutique Hotel in Hermanus, and River Manor Boutique Hotel in Stellenbosch.

From the moment we arrived the host was wonderful he took us to our room where I had my surprise waiting for me flowers balloons and a cake. (it was my birthday)
They assisted with making dinner reservations for us at a nearby restaurant and also made recommendations of places to see and places where we can have lunch. On our way back from dinner we found little candles in the passage leading to our room as well as inside our room, sweet good night notes on each of our pillows, they had even closed the blinds and curtains for us which I thought was sweet.
The room was very pretty and clean with all the necessities needed. The bathroom also the same a nice big shower as well as a free-standing bath tub.
Breakfast was amazing, the complimentary juice, cake and tea during the day was also a nice touch.
The staff was amazing and friendly went the extra mile for all of our small requests up until the day we checked out when we had to leave super early before breakfast but Jevon made sure that breakfast was ready by 6:30am for us.

Special thanks to Henry, Jevon, Andria, Somi and Sheila.

Will definitely be coming back.

We had such an amazing winter weekend at Chapter House. Everyone who worked there was a pleasure to meet and did a great job making us feel at home (starting and tending to the fire in our room, cooking breakfast, making dinner reservations)! The location makes it easy to walk in to town or drive a short distance to the wineries. We will 100% come back to stay again!

Chapter House has been recommended by good friends from South Africa to us. Looking at the beautiful setting and the excellent reviews we inmediately booked for Easter-vacation.
Unfortunately due to Corona-virus we had to cancel our trip, since SA introduced severe travel-restrictions for European guests in this period. We reached out to manager Lucy to cancel our reservation, which she refused although Force Majeure applies in such cases and offered a credit for a future booking instead. We‘re travelling to South Africa for more than 10 years now and every property we booked this year immediately offered free cancelation besides Chapter House. After 1,5 hours with booking.com I finally received a free cancelation by booking.com.
All in all the behaviour ofChapter House was unfriendly and not at all showing the hospitality wrknow from private properties in South Africa. Although the hotel looks very nice I definitely won‘t book again and can‘t recommend this place.

Thank you for your feedback. Although this platform is generally reserved for guest who actually stay in the hotel, I would nevertheless like to take the time to respond as we both find ourselves in a difficult situation through no fault of our own. I understand that the reservations team has had several discussions with you prior to your review. I have checked your booking and see that you contacted us to amend your booking which was done at our discretion and at no cost to you, despite your having chosen to make a non-refundable reservation. We pride ourselves in having contented and happy guests so deeply regret the frustration and upset that this has caused you. Thank you and we hope that you and your loved ones stay well during these difficult times. Warm regards Lorraine

In times where Covid 19 rules the life, it is so seldom to brake away and rest. We went to the Chapter House in Franschhoek for the first time, but for sure not for the last time. The location, one road behind Main Street, invites to lock the car at arrival and walk for the rest of the time. With a warm welcome from the Team we got into our room. All standards in place, clean, with attention to detail. You can feel how proud the Team of Chapter House is to take care of us. The pool area with a lovely view towards the mountain, the breakfast room with the view into the lavender Garden, there is this wonderful flow in this building. The selection at the breakfast buffet has been well balanced and yes there is warm breakfast served too! We would have loved to stay for longer, but will be back soon. Thanks to the Team of the Chapter House for sharing their home with us.

Dear Rolf Thank you for your review and your strong endorsement. It was so lovely to have you at Chapter House and we are thrilled to read that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated all of the special little touches. We get a lot of great comments about our location, but you summed it up perfectly saying that car can be locked and forgotten - which is a real bonus. I am so pleased to read that you would like to return. Please do stay in touch and let us know when you are planning your next trip to the area, and whether we can help with restaurant bookings or other attractions. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Warm regards Lorraine

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this charming, well-run gem in Franschhoek. It was pure joy from the moment we arrived with the very well-trained staff attending to our every need. The room was excellent and breakfast superb. The location of the hotel makes it ideal for exploring the many attractions of Franschhoek. We will certainly be back.

The location is excellent and near the center of the village. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we went to Franschhoek. For us there was one minor drawback. The room was on the first floor and it was quite difficult to get the suitcases up without damaging the walls. You can spend the night here very well, but if you are older I would ask for a room on the ground floor. Back to NL is a night flight. The facilities for staying in a hotel and taking a shower before leaving are good.

Thank you for posting such a wonderful review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Franschhoek and at Chapter House. The addition of a day-room and luggage storage was part of our recent renovations and it has been very popular. The flight back to Holland is very late so I am very pleased that you had a chance to take advantage of these facilities. I apologise that you struggled with the stairs. We would be more that happy to place you in a ground floor room on your return stay should you return to Franschhoek. Warm regards Lorraine

We knew the previous version on the same site but my goodness what a great transformation the new owners managed to do! I like the mix of tradition and a more modern feel. The two work well together at Chapter house and do not clash at all. The service is attentive and caring without being overbearing, as it sometimes can be in smaller places. We slept well and were ready for a day of exploration of the area, which also made the location great as it is very close yet not in the main centre of this charming village.

Dear Nils Many thanks for your review and wonderful endorsement. I am so pleased that you liked the balance of maintaining the heritage of the house, which dates back to 1882, whilst also modernizing the facilities and services available. This was our goal so it is very re-assuring to hear from those who knew the pre-renovation product that we got this just right. I have shared your kind words about great service and attentiveness with the team who always appreciate getting such positive feedback. Please do stay in touch, we would love to welcome you back to Chapter House on your next trip to Franschhoek. Warm regards Lorraine

Chapter House is an incredibly quaint hotel located in central Franscchoek. The hotel is gorgeous with amazing swimming pools, rooms, and more - but what truly makes the place worth wild is the service. Maxwell, Andrea, Henry, Michael, and the countless other staff members were incredible. Every day and night they were there to take care of all our needs. Each was incredibly friendly and helpful. We needed breakfast one morning very early and the kitchen staff came in early just for us. It was so kind. But that is just one example. Every day was like this. Maxwell was there each night to give us our turn down service and to make sure everything was in order.
I can not tell you how amazing it was.

I am so pleased we chose 'The Chapter House Boutique Hotel' for our visit to Franschhoek. It is located just a few minutes walk from the main street which is a hub for restaurants, bars and shops. We booked a superior room in the new Annexe and were given room 17 on the top floor with small balcony having wonderful mountain views The room was spacious with a large bathroom and walk in shower. The toiletries were quality but the provision of a box of tissues in the bathroom would be a good addition! The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning effective (outside of the load shedding times) and there was plenty of storage, The rooms in the new wing are large enough to take small drinks fridge and this would have been helpful in keeping the water provided daily nice and cool. The hotel itself is very inviting with attractive public rooms and a nice sitting area around the small plunge pool. Drinks are very reasonably priced and can be added to the room account. The staff, without exception, were very attentive and helpful and they are a strong asset of the hotel. Breakfasts, included in the price, are of exceptionally good quality. The cold buffet consists of delicious croissants and other pastries, cold meats and cheeses, jams, yogurts, fruit etc. There is a range of fruit juices and coffee available. The hotel also. provides a hot selection included in the prices, cooked to order. We tried the full English; the Scrambled egg with Ham and the Omelette and all were very tasty but there is a fair choice to cover most people's requirement. We ordered our transfers from CapeTown and back to the airport via the hotel and whereas this is more expensive that a Uber or local taxi firm, the quality of the cars was high end. We were transferred in both a BMW SUV and then a Range Rover. The drivers were excellent and happy to talk about the local area. All in all, we felt we couldn't have made a better choice than the Chapter House Hotel for its central location, being a quality product and adding to our Franschhoek experience. Thank you.

Daer Bob Thank you for your wonderfully detailed review, and for choosing Chapter House Boutique Hotel for your recent trip to Franschhoek. Your feedback is really excellent, thank you. I am pleased you enjoyed the toiletries; they are a locally made brand, fully organic and biodegradable and locally farmed. This is one of the differences we have chosen to make in order to be environmentally aware, and optimize our sustainability footprint, which is one of key philosophies. Linked to this is the decision not to have bar fridges in the room. With 24 hour butler service, and ice buckets available, we feel that the addition of bar fridges would not be in-keeping with our efforts in sustainable tourism. The kitchen team will be delighted with your description of the breakfast, they work very hard to ensure that the quality is really great, so they will really appreciate your compliments. I will also share your comments on the service with the whole team who will also appreciate the feedback. Thanks again for your strong endorsement, we really do appreciate it. Please stay in touch and let us know when you are planning your next trip to the area. We would love to welcome you back to Chapter House Boutique Hotel, or to another one of The Living Journey Collection in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Hermanus and Robertson. Thanks again, and warm regards. Lorraine
