Enjoyed a nice visit to Star Island Rye NH. Stayed in the 100 year old rustic Oceanic Hotel. It was a small rocky island surrounded by amazing views...sunsets, the lighthouse, a peace filled few days. Enjoyed kayaking and just relaxing on the rocking chairs on the front porch.

We just were out for a couple hours on a boat trip. It is lovely, isolated, serene and genuine. I envied the families I saw vacationing there, playing ball on the grounds, board games, and reading books in rocking chairs. I did not want to leave this place that time forgot.

We had a wonderful day on Star Island, but would not like to stay here overnight. For us it would be step above camping, and not at all enticing. The rooms are very basic with no frills. You can only take a shower on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The showers, as well as the bathroom facilities, are all shared among...

I am taking a 1 week conference on Star Island; weather is gorgeous and am enjoying ample basic meals, cold Atlantic swimming, "Pell" talent shows, and watching baby barn swallows fledge from their little nests they build over the light fixtures. How brave they are!! A great week with no pressure from the outside world.

What a little gem we found in Star island (N.H.) It's ONLY inhabitant is a curiously funky conference center, housed in a formerly glorious Victorian Era hotel (think a somewhat shopworn Downton Abby but the staff has pink hair). The family friendly conference center offers a refreshing array of weekend and weeklong retreats, all held on a rocky island- itself...

My family has attended conferences on Star Island for 20 years. We love the community and the opportunity to live simply and intentionally during our time on island. The amenities are few, but we learn that it isn't what we have that is important. It's who we are with. Some of my dearest friends are Star Island friends. Come for...

Spectacularly beautiful island with a Victorian era hotel and cottages is a truly unique vacation. Low tech, simple facilities, and unparalleled scenery makes for a relaxing stay on a 40 acre island located ten miles off of Portsmouth, NH.

This is not a luxurious holiday, but rather a delightfully relaxing retreat in a gorgeous island setting. Amenities are very limited- many accommodations share bathrooms and you need to go to the main hotel for a shower room, but the surroundings more than make up for all that. All around the Island you see spectacular views and hiking around the...

Like others have written, if you expect a high-end hotel, this is not for you. This is all about getting down to the basic necessities. The ferry gets you there in about an hour or so. The hotel is like going back in time. There's so much history on Star Island and in this hotel. Hang out in wooden rocking...

If you expect 5-star comfort, luxury rooms, and private baths, read no further, this is not the place for you. If you long for the days when friends were made in a matter of minutes, nature was all around you, and children play for long lazy summer days with all the children together, then this may be what you've been...

“Inquire when booking due to rocky nature of the island; all the buildings have access constraints..”

“There are about 4 or 5 housing choices; I like the original, Victorian hotel (called Oceanic!!) .”

“Most rooms have trade-offs. You need to look at the site and decide what is important to you.”

“The island is self-sustaining so do not bring lots of electronics and showers are limited to 3 per week. Believe me, you won't care and you'll swim enough to make up for it! Perhaps the only place on earth that is so close to nature with a rapidly shrinking carbon footprint. The "luxuries" you will find are nature-made sounds, historic rooms, home cooked meals, and the best raspberry-lime rickies around.”

“It really doesn't work that way. You sign up for a conference on a topic that intrigues you and they assign the room. There is no A/C, food is in the communal dining hall and there are showers twice a week (provided the water supply holds up).”
