How fortunate that this charming old inn has a beautiful ground floor room, completely outfitted for the comfort of a wheel-chair-bound guest. With direct access from the parking lot, this cozy Drovers Room has many historic touches--beamed ceiling, four poster (king size) bed, rustic stone (gas) fireplace--as well as a modern, spacious bathroom with shower seat and grab bars. We...

We can't tell you how gratifying it is to hear that the Drover's room worked well for you. We have tried to make it cozy and functional, but did not go so far as to use a wheelchair ourselves, so it's wonderful to hear first hand! Thank you so much for bringing your family (of course we feel dogs are...

Stayed here for two weeks over the holidays and it truly felt like home. I think my husband left claw marks in the snow as I almost had to drag him away. The owners are exceptionally hospitable and do a first\-class job of running the inn, which includes a great restaurant. The housekeeping was spot on, the kitchen did a...

It's not often that we are treated to having house guests for an extended two week stay. People come and go around here so quickly. There's barely time to learn everyone's name. You were excellent company and, we must say, a real addition to the warm, welcoming, atmosphere we try and engender here at the inn. Thank you. We will...

Charming common areas in lobby and authentic historic rooms. Hotel room was extremely well-organized and super-comfortable. Inn owners are delightful, but respectful of guests' privacy. Inn location on the main square in the beautiful town of Hancock is the best !!! Restaurant is cozy and has very good food.

Thank you! It's so nice to hear, "well-organized." It doesn't feel like it sometimes, but we'll take it! It was a pleasure having you. Please come back soon. Jarvis.

This is our third trip to the Hancock Inn to help us recover from the post Christmas rush. We come to relax, unwind and enjoy the Inn's New England charm. This trip has been extremely lovely because of the snow that arrived during our stay. The Inn Keepers Marcia and Jarvis go out of their way to make their guests...

Thank you so much for the nice review, which touches on almost every theme we could conjure for ourselves this time of year. Winter is the slow season here and yet we have always been struck by the connections that get made with our guests this time of year vs. the busy summer and fall seasons. For the most part,...

Our first stay at the Inn was close to five years ago. We keep going back because it feels like home (but much neater and the service is better). I grew up in the White Mountains and visited a lot of the old country Inns. After living elsewhere for 40 years, I returned to New England several years ago and...

To be placed alongside such distinguished innkeeping company is a wonderful Christmas present. Thank you very much. We have a policy of not using guest names in this space if we happen to recognize the poster unless they have revealed it themselves in some manner. In this instance, of course, we know who you are. So, thank you. One of...

Decided to visit because the Fox Tavern inside is listed as the oldest bar in New Hampshire. Arrived a little earlier than expected and didn't realize they didn't open for a few more hours. However the owner was nice enough to open up the bar and let us have a beer. I would highly recommend a visit if you are...

The Hancock Inn is our #1 "go to place" to get away, slow down, and totally relax. We have been coming here for many years and expect to continue this tradition for many more. The Inn is beautifully decorated, especially at this time of year. The food is fantastic--some very traditional choices and always a number of new and different...

The Hancock Inn was a very pleasant surprise as was the quaint NH town of Hancock. This was our first visit to the town and the inn. We look forward to our next visit and would highly recommend this inn.

Thank you, Paul, for your very nice review! Pleasant surprises are always the best are they not? It is true about the Monadnock Region as a whole we have to say. It tends to pleasantly surprise people that may have been driving past to the mountains or lakes regions for years who now discover something that is closer and, yet,...

Thank you so much for your kind review and the "shout out" to our staff who work so hard to keep this old building ship-shape! Nothing means more than hearing we'll see you again. Enjoy the holidays.

We have stayed at this historic inn a number of times and it has always been excellent. The owners and staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and clean. Our only regret is that the restaurant no longer caries the traditional cranberry roast beef dinner. The alternate choices are great however.

Thank you for the nice review and, especially, for continuing to make The Hancock Inn part of your travel routine! We are trying to figure out, however, how you came away with the impression that the Shaker Cranberry Pot Roast is not on the menu anymore. It is most definitely on the menu. We asked our chef if he had...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hancock Inn is a historic property in Hancock, New Hampshire. Built in 1789, it is New Hampshire's oldest continuously operating inn. The inn has 14 rooms for overnight accommodations that are exceptionally well-appointed with period antiques and inclusive of modern amenities, such as in-room chargers, waffle-weave spa robes, flat screen televisions with built-in DVD and wifi throughout the building. Many rooms have gas or electric fireplaces. There are numerous common areas around the inn for the enjoyment of our guests, upstairs and down. The two sitting rooms on the first floor, one with with a Rumford fireplace, are hallmarks of the inn's warmth and hospitality, separating it from the usual of being away, making it feel closer to home. Outside, the inn's 1.5 acres of gardens and field (which includes a professionally maintained croquet pitch in the summer) connect visitors to the Monandock region's preserved landscape and scenery. In the winter, join countless avid snowshoers and cross country skiers and, other times, experience the lakes, rivers and trails that crisscross our corner of the world. The inn's fine dining restaurant, The Fox Tavern, is open seven nights a week. The farm-to-table menu features New England favorites relying on locally raised beef, pork and poultry, plus cheese, fruits and vegetables from area growers, including vegetables from our own gardens. The Tavern's reknowned, cooked-to-order breakfast is served complimentary to house guests. Come to the Hancock Inn and learn why it has been characterized as "the near perfect expression of the New England village inn." ... more   less
