Amazing period hotel and cafe! Decorated and maintained beautifully, it is like stepping back in time. Lobby is quite spectacular. Courtyard relaxing and inviting. Very reasonably priced. Everything was clean. You can tell the owners take pride in their establishment and care deeply about the community and history of this place. Hotel service very friendly and accommodating. Food at the...

This place is frozen in time! What a surprise! For a small town this is a truly surprising find. We did not stay, but will plan to on a future visit. We stopped for breakfast and loved it. The sausage gravy and biscuits were the best I have ever had!

New owners took over in January and they are very nice! The hotel has been remodeled so that every room has a private bath and is decorated to the original time period. Reasonably priced. If you're in the area, it's worth the stop!

The Bassett Lodge a perfectly intact Mid-Century hotel located in the heart of cattle country. All of the original details have somehow survived and everything is in excellent condition. Our room was very clean. With such a wonderfully preserved hotel of this era, there's several things that are different from your conventional hotel experience. Firstly, the rooms are small. Back...

My best friend and I stayed one night here in May. Of course I was bit nervous about booking because the place is obviously old. I was cautiously optimistic based on the photos online but we rolled the dice and were not only pleasantly surprised we were thrilled with the place. Holy cow! It's like a twist on a metro...

I trusted Trip Advisor travelers who gave favorable ratings, but found the place pretty discusting. Everything including decor appeared to be original from when this old hotel was built in the 40's or 50's. The odor in the stairway to the second floor will almost turn you around and make you leave. Make reservations somewhere else ahead of time when...

Me and my friends were on a road-trip and stopped in Bassett on our way to Mt Rushmore. The rooms were great (loved the wallpaper!) and we had a lovely chat with the owner and another guest about the area, where to go for dinner, etc. We had our breakfast in the Range cafe (part of the lodge) and it...

I saw the small billboard aloang Hwy 20 as it started getting dark and decided to take a chance. What a find - on the national historical registry! Small but well appointed rooms. Very comfortable beds and tops of the line bedding. Great public spaces and helpful service from the front desk. Had an excellent breakfast at the adjoining cafe

Ok, so some of the tiles were loose in the bathroom, etc. But this place is total true Americana that deserves travelers. It's true west, and they're not fancying it up too much--just right. The lobby is marvelous. One of the best things was the cafe. We traveled all around NE, and you can't find that much fresh, solidly good,...

I stopped at the lodge with my dad and my aunt as part of the 2014 Nebraska Passport tour. As we pulled into the street parking out front, I could see the doubt in their eyes; from the outside, the Lodge looks old and rundown. Once we stepped inside, their faces lit up. My aunt recognized the switchboard behind the...

“Could have used another trash can in our room, definitely not a deal breaker since we ended up sitting out in the courtyard most of the evening but would have been nice.”
