Detailed Reviews
You can’t beat the location, and the inn is charming. We prefer boutique hotels to traditional bed & breakfasts, and the Farmhouse Inn is a nice combo of both. All of the following work well for us, yet you should know and be prepared for the these things, which aren’t for everyone: there is no lobby or staff onsite; you’ll get a code to access exterior and interior doors; there is no daily housekeeping. There are a few hooks on the wall but no closet (in Room 2), so pack so you can live out of your suitcase or use the bench in the room to store your clothes on.
Parking is free and right out back. The food at the restaurant is really good! However, the restaurant is not open on Sundays or Mondays, so plan ahead. There are plenty of good breakfast options in Whitefish.

+1
We stayed for 2 nights at FHI. They have 2 guest rooms (book early); not big, but very nice, and have a lot of charm. The breakfast and lunch restaurant (downstairs) is open to everyone. For guests the breakfast is included. All the choices are freshly made, and a lot of healthy options; ... just incredible tasty and good looking. It's 5 minutes from the Main Street, but much better then the other places there.

We stayed at this Inn the last week in July. This place is no longer as described on their website. No TP and dirty/smelly bath tub upon our arrival. Kitchen was closed on the first morning...and so we had to go offsite for breakfast. Caught and released 14 bees in our room...and got stung by one. Delayed responses in addressing several other room issues. Owner promised partial refund for all of the inconveniences but never followed up. The only redeeming thing about this place was that when opened, the kitchen made fabulous breakfasts and baked goods.

Very poor experience. While the location is close to everything, its also close to the train tracks so I awakened throughout the night EVEN with a white noise machine. The mattress compresses down to a pack of cards and the bed is VERY short. The room is right out a NYC hotel room as in tiny...there is no way it could accommodate more than one person. There is not comfortable place to sit. The owners were unresponsive to questions and they did not event serve breakfast. After booking they mentioned I had to eat elsewhere. The wifi directions were incorrect. The walls are thin, I could hear the couple across the hall. And finally the only parking spaces are under a tree that drops sap on your vehicle. Wonderful!

This place is on my must go list from now on. Being from CA and moving to Bozeman my food expectations are high. This place makes the best sandwiches in Montana. The BLTA was perfection. Absolutely have to return.

The Inn part of the Farmhouse Inn & kitchen was newly renovated/built in July 2019 at the time of our visit. Everything was new, clean, and beautifully decorated. The Inn itself is set in back of the cafe, and is run like an Airbnb, with pin pad entry and no front desk. The owners are super friendly and always available via phone if not on site. The outdoor space at the back of the Inn is a wonderful little oasis, with small tables, seating areas, flowers, trees, and games. Situated right downtown in Whitefish,
There are 3 rooms total, and we stayed in the smallest room on the first floor - Room #1. We may have missed the small print in the booking info for this room specifically, but on the website, #1 is advertised as fit for 2 people, with a full bed. We did indeed fit two people, however we had to move furniture around and keep one suitcase in the bathroom both days in order to move around. With one window and the bed pushed against the wall, we felt a bit cramped during our stay. In addition to the size, room #1 is situated right near the entryway, where laundry is located and in the hallway leading to the cafe/kitchen, which can be noisy for anyone trying to sleep in. All that being said, we still recommend the FI&K for its location, cleanliness, hosts, and backyard space.. not to mention the overall cuteness!
We’d recommend booking either of the other rooms #2 or #3 for a bit more money, so that you get the aforementioned benefits of the Inn, while having more space and quiet. Or, if you’re comfortable with small spaces and want a big upgrade from camping or staying at a motel, by all means - stay in #1!
