A Charming and stunning place. Each room is an experience in itself. Isabelle is the kindest host with the complete history of this jewel of a home. Ideal for everyone that loves to travel back to the Victorian times. She also organizes special events. A very highly recommend place for everyone.

My wife and I needed a quick get away before she was to have double knee replacement surgery. My friend at work recommended this Victorian B&B mansion in St. Joe, MO. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite and it was wonderful. The home is exquisite and features incredible woodwork, stained glass, and an amazing foyer that you just...

My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary in this wonderful mansion in St. Joseph. The craftsmanship in this well preserved mansion is truly impressive. The detailed woodwork, stained glass and other features are very rare in any part of the U.S. and especially so in the midwest. Isabel, our Innkeeper made us feel at home. She is a...

The chateau is exquisite- lovingly restored and very comfortable. It is also very quiet- often not the case in a B&B. The breakfasts are abundant and excellent- the best my family has ever had. Isobel, the innkeeper, is a delightful woman with a great depth of knowledge about historical preservation. We will definitely stay here any time we return to...

We stayed at the Sheakespeare Chateau before Christmas. The historic home was beautifully decorated with Christmas trees and fresh flowers. The bedroom was spacious and comfortably furnished. A soak in the spa tub was very relaxing. The owner graciously shared the history and restoration process of this home with us. The antique art and furnishing make you feel as if...

So much to see, so little time! The Shakespeare Chateau is so flush with original features - woodwork, stained glass, tile floor, chandeliers - it is hard to take it all in at once! I hope your next visit will allow you more leisure to enjoy everything this wonderful and historic mansion has to offer! Thanks for your review Christine!

Went here for our first anniversary and it was an absolute pleasure. The minute you step into the house your jaw won't leave the floor. The personal tour is a really nice touch and very interesting. The room (Romeo & Juliet) was top notch - clean, spacious and an experience in itself. Breakfast was very tastey and nothing was rushed....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The majestic Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden when St. Joseph Missouri was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row." You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 (yes, 47!) Original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood, mahogany, and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer. But most of all, you'll enjoy our comfortable sleeping rooms, each one beautifully appointed with fabulous art and antiques and luxurious linens. ... more   less
