This was an absolute gem to find in St. Joseph, MO. A gorgeous home decorated for the Christmas season with a gracious host who was warm and welcoming; providing a history lesson not only on the home, but also many other interesting facts about St. Joseph. The night we arrived, we were welcomed to a musical presentation reflecting the time...

This was one of the finest B & B's we have had the pleasure of staying in. The home is stunning and the attention to detail and cleanliness are visible throughout the property. Isobel is a delightful hostess and a fine Innkeeper, not to mention she serves a beautiful breakfast. We enjoyed our private tour of this amazing home, Isobel's...

Built in 1885 at a cost of $75,000, the home is an expression of European elegance found in few homes. The owner and hostess, Isabelle, has lovingly restored the place and had the perfect mix of being helpful and giving us privacy. Breakfast was excellent.

We cannot adequately describe the amazing experience at Shakespeare Chateau! From the moment we pulled up under the stone portico, we knew we were about to experience something very special. Isobel, our gracious hostess, met us in the entry and gave us a quick tour upon arrival. We were blown away by the beautiful stained glass, mosaic tile floors, and...

It was truly my pleasure to meet you on your recent visit to St. Joseph and the Shakespeare Chateau. Words cant express how absolutely blown away we were by this place! It is utterly gorgeous and we felt so privileged to be able to stay in this incredible mansion. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite which was spacious, immaculate, and beautifully appointed. There is a jacuzzi bath right in the room made elegant by the addition of...

Isobel was a delightful hostess. The B and B was restored to perfection. Great breakfast. My friend and I felt we had stepped back in time. I sober gave us recommendations for dinner. We loved it. Room was spacious, two queen beds, and had special touches. I highly recommend.

My wife and I stayed at the Shakespeare Chateau last Halloween when we came to St. Joseph to visit the Pony Express Museum (a bucket list item from my boyhood days) and avoid the trick-or-treaters at home. The Chateau is a marvelous old mansion (circa 1880's, I think), not to far from downtown, that the hostess has largely restored to...

My guests might be celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or just visiting friends or family here in St. Joseph, but whatever their reason for traveling, the Shakespeare Chateau provides a welcome destination and opportunity to relax in elegance and luxury.

When my nephew told me he was getting married in St. Joseph on New Year's Eve, I immediately went to TripAdvisor to find a B&B -- St. Joe is not known for its hotels. We found a wonderfully restored mansion and a proprietor who was an astute preservationist. The "Twelfth Night" room was very comfortable and the en suite bathroom...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The majestic Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden when St. Joseph Missouri was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row." You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 (yes, 47!) Original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood, mahogany, and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer. But most of all, you'll enjoy our comfortable sleeping rooms, each one beautifully appointed with fabulous art and antiques and luxurious linens. ... more   less
