This was a great experience! We stayed in a loft room that was very nice. A little out dated but very clean and spacious. We especially liked the deck overlooking the lake. The lodge itself was very nice and with rustic decor. The meals were filling and had variety. The quality of the food was ok - nothing special but it met our needs. There is so much to do at Trout Lodge and most is included with your rate. The lake is extremely clean and refreshing. All of the staff (lodge, servers, program staff) were super friendly. They took time to learn my kid’s names and remembered them throughout the week. We were there and, of course, COVID was a concern. Staff did a good job of taking precautions. Food was served to us instead of the usual buffet. Staff were constantly wiping down surfaces. All staff were masks. Equipment was sprayed down and disinfected between uses. We can’t wait to go to Trout Lodge again!

Here's a picture of out first and LAST visit. We checked into our "cabin" which was a prefabricated house, split in half. It seemed ok at first glance. It was in need of a severe update, the grout was crumbling in the bathroom. It was muggy. The deck was filled with spider webs. We love insects, but it's like this place did not even try. But that was ok, we were gonna make the best of it. Then we opened the mini fridge to find several roaches, still not the end of the world but gross. We decided to go to the tiny beach, but soon left as it had more goose poop then sand, and life guards who screamed at kids for splashing. We decided to go eat. The food itself is extremely bland, more concerning is the food handling practices. As the day went on, we witnessed unsafe acts (putting hands in a trash can then serving food right after, not keeping food covered from flies) . It's was nerve wracking. We went back to our room, to find it at 80 degrees despite being preset to 56. The office told us to turn it off for the night, mind you, this is late June. We were extremely disappointed. Finally at 11 pm they moved us to a tiny hotel room, no mini fridge, coffee maker, TV, was two beds and a book shelf. They brought us a filthy mini fridge to put our babies milk in. We decided to check out that next morning, as almost 300 a night (hotel) or 600 (cabin) was not worth this. They give no soap, shampoo, razors etc and site COVID. We had ours items, but food for thought. You will drive 10 miles if the Nick knack country store does not have it, much like the milk we had to drive 10 miles for. No coffee until your designated time. Not in the hotels. Also, no TV. Nothing was offered to us as far as compensation but to be brutally honest my biggest concern was getting out of there. All of the staff was incredibly kind, polite, easygoing. This is 100 a leadership issue. The place could be really fun and cute.

Our family just spent Thanksgiving at Trout Lodge. While we always love getting together as a group, the food quality continues to decline. The scrambled eggs and omelet casserole are made from tasteless powdered eggs, the bacon tasted like grease, fried fish is over cooked and beef was inedible. The only positive is the salad bar, but it gets old eating salad 2 meals a day. We've been attending Trout Lodge for Thanksgiving for over 15 years and are usually the largest family there. I found it's hopeless to complain (I tried twice) as there's no one at the front desk that accepts responsibility or is able to do anything.

Stayed five nights, clean, comfortable. Beautiful view of the lake from large balcony deck. Food is included and was OK. Lots of choices. The lodge had many activity choices, bicycling, horseback riding, ropes, zip lines, crafts. Summer includes swimming. The fall colors were great.

We recently stayed here during our transition of moving back to STL, my husband was also working close by, so this was the perfect location! It was during their slow time, so they accommodated us. First of all, the people that work here make it what it is! They were so friendly, helpful and gotta say, so much fun to be around! It's nice to stay at a place where everyone, especially the young activities staff, loves their jobs! We even noticed the management would often eat their meals with the younger staff members and their tables were always full of laughter...the rapport between employees and upper management was something pretty special, to say the least. I must comment on the food. I read some of these reviews and wondered to myself if we all were eating in the same buffet line! We absolutely loved the food! They had something for everyone! They offered such a variety, from healthy, even gluten free, to delicious full on meals, along with many desserts...even a children's food bar with things such as chicken nuggets and mac and cheese! Our favorites were the meatloaf, fried fish, fried chicken, the chili, Mexican night....we truly loved it all! Not only was the food good, but the people that work in the kitchen and on the floor worked so very hard..always picking up our plates as soon as we were done, and always quick to say, "Hello!" with their sweet smiles! We stayed in a cabin which also had a screened in porch...even a fireplace! Very comfy and clean! I will always remember staying here with such fond memories, as this transitional time could have been full of stress, but it was the complete opposite! Very family oriented, but also perfect for a couples get away...just love it here. Thank you YMCA Trout Lodge for making our stay feel like a home away from home...we will see you again for sure!! Steve, Lisa and Sarge :-)
