We were two, semi-retired couples traveling Portugal for two weeks. We wanted a variety of experiences and found a great, rustic retreat in Monte Saraz! Swimming pool, high terrace for star watching, scrumptious breakfast, and comfortable bed. What else does one need? Oh yes, we ate dinner at the local, non-tourist restaurant and were serenaded by some local young men....

We loved Monte Saraz...a green and leafy, cool oasis with the constant soundscape of frogs gently croaking, birds twittering and water running. Beautiful views framed by old stone arches and trees, vestiges of Roman habitation and a surprise round every corner.

We absolutely fell in love with Monte Saraz, it is the most beautiful country house one can imagine, the garden is magical, it smells of sweet flowers, and the setting and scenery is absolutely gorgeous. It's perfect for everyone, a romantic getaway, paired with some wine tasting in the region, I could imagine visiting by myself and reading and writing...

We stayed here for 3 nights. It was a pleasant and peacefull stay. The accomodation was very clean and cozy. Marc and Rosette were very kind as well, It felt like coming home. The view is amazing, as well the sounds of the frogs and crickets. Monsaraz is just 10 minutes driving away. Spain is just one hour driving away,...

It's a very nice place close to the village but you need a car for lunch and dinner. Water follows the visitor in every corner, better if you go in summer to enjoy the beautiful pools, roman style. Not nice to go with children, even when the owner knew we were with a baby and a three years old boy...

Thank you for your initial complements about our establishment, the very same reasons our clients (with or without children) until now, have been very happy with the accommodation & services. They find the nature, fresh country air, tranquillity, gardens & pools ideal for children, considering today's stressed & polluted lifestyle. As you say, as on any holiday with children who...

Monte Saraz stands out as the most special place where we have been during our tour in Portugal. We have vivid memories of the beauty and the uniqueness of the suites and the gardens. Smells of herbs and gentle sounds of water like in an Arabic garden in the old days. Above all, we enjoyed the privacy of our appartment...

We had a suite rather than a house. It was beautiful...but a bit chilly. Marc was the perfect host and provided an extra heater and bedding...rendering the chilly comment redundant within moments. He also pointed us in the direction of a local restaurant to eat late on the evening we arrived. He called ahead and we were greeted with a...

A visitor might find it strange to find a property like this in Portugal owned by a Dutchman, but for those of us who live here, it is not so unusual. Mark is a great host and knows all there is to know about the area. We opted for this place instead of a B & B inside the town...

This is a very special place, designed with lots of love from the owner which can be experienced in all the details. Excellent breakfast. The owner gave us a tour of the estate with many interesting details about its history, dating back all the way to the Romans. No restaurants in the vicinity, a car is recommended.
