Step away from romanticizing about the olden days that never actually happened, and you are being charged a modern price for a clean room with minimum / spartan facilities. The furniture is the low end of 'shabby chic' - open the drawers and the stain goes no further than the front of the drawer. The table had peeling veneer and...

Oh, gosh! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we COULD charge just the $2.50 that Arthur Boots charged in the 1940s? In the 1940s, that was an exorbitant rate, but he charged it to "keep the riff-raff out," according to his son. But, unfortunately, we couldn't pay the rent if we did that, much as we would like to do so....

What an iconic Route 66 motel. This place sure was a gem. We got adjoining rooms in the back of the place. There is no TV, which didn't go over well with my 2 boys, but they have old fashioned radios in every room. We had to play cards instead. The rooms were very nice and clean and newly renovated....

Thank you so much for your review. Sorry your boys didn't appreciate having to play cards instead of watch television. In the front office, we do have some old-fashioned board games (checkers, Pit, UNO, Monopoly,) available to take back to your room in case someone is bored with no television to watch. Our adult guests don't care, but kids are...

We hadn't planned to stay here on our Route 66 trip but we're both very glad we found this gem! We luckily rocked up and nabbed one of the last two rooms available. The whole motel is being restored to it's original route 66 glory, the rooms are very clean and spacious and even come complete with an old working...

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Boots Court, and thank you for the nice review. We love to talk to our guests who arrive from far away places. Minding the motel makes it hard for us to travel, so we really appreciate that you bring the world to us! Hope you can make it to Carthage again sometime,...

Spent the night here on a trip along old Route 66. The owners have taken great pains to restore the rooms to their 1940's glory and they have done an excellent job. Clean and comfortable and walking distance to a pancake house and a "fancy" fast food restaurant (Braum's). It is important for those of us who care about Americana...

I'm late in writing this. As a retirement "gift" my wife and I decided to take a Route 66 trip this past spring (mid-April). Our intent was to stay at as many "original" Route 66 establishments as possible, and Boots Court was our second stop after spending the first night in Cuba, MO. Carthage is a great little town, full...

Many people have stayed here in its long history, including Clark Gable. The newest owners have done an admirable job of restoration. The A/C was awesome with 80% humidity. This is a perfect stopover during a Route 66 drive, Debbie Dee the manager is a wealth of historical information.

We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the "time capsule" effect of staying at the Boots Court. Although we have updated the mattresses and added WiFi for the convenience and comfort of our guests, we do try to make it as close as possible to its 1940s appearance based on what we can learn from older people...

Real icon from the old route, the place is going on renewal and getting back all its history. Owners ready to help and talk about the place. We stayed in two communicated rooms, in one of them stayed Clark Gable and he even gave an autograph to a girl in town. If you happen to be in Carthage on the...

Stayed at the Boots Court as part of our cross- USA trip - I'm so glad we did! Called on-spec from Spencer after lunch and reserved a room. Arrived and was checked in by the delightful Debbie on reception. This was a lengthy process as Debbie is wonderfully chatty and just dying to tell you all about the place and Carthage itself. The room was exactly as billed (free radio!) and was a gorgeous 40's/50's era style, with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Boots Motel is an iconic historic motel on Route 66, at the junction of historic U.S. Route 66 and U.S. Route 71. It features two buildings, one built in 1939 and one in 1946, in the Streamlined Moderne style. Neglected for years, it is currently being restored to its 1949 appearance. Five rooms in the 1946 building are now completed and ready for occupancy. They feature spacious rooms with the original hardwood floors and built-in vanity dressing tables, and ceramic tile bathrooms with shower stalls They are individually decorated and furnished with period furnishings such as chenille bedspreads and 1940s-style furniture. Some still have the original round mirrors installed over the dressing tables. There are no televisions since television was not available in the Carthage area until the mid-1950s, but, as originally advertised, there is "a radio in every room," and the motel does offer free WiFi. Each room is individually heated and air conditioned, just as advertised in the 1940s. Experience a time when room service delivered your ice to your room and your room key was a real key that fit into an actual lock! We also have 5 double-carports to protect guest's vehicles from weather. Welcome back to the 1940s at the Boots Court! ... more   less
