I have to be honest. I have been all over the world in stayed in various types of accommodations, but while everything worked in this hotel, it is past its prime. According to the placard in the elevator the last renovation was 1985 and it shows. The bath needed to be re-caulked, the shower curtain hadn't been changed since I...

We arrived after midnight on a busy weekend in the area. This hotel was the only local option. Based on the most recent reviews, we thought we give it a chance. After check in, we parked our car around the back of the hotel. The area had an industrial feel with several "odd" individuals walking around aimlessly. As we entered...

This a 3-story (about 100 rooms) hotel on the main street of Virginia,, on the Minnesota Iron Range. Built ca. 1951, it shows it age (iron sink stains, dripping faucet), but rooms have been modernized and are quiet and comfortable. Neither soap nor glasses were in room when I arrived--had to ask. Architecture is peculiar: a 3-story atrium in the...

We are from out of state, a long way, and had to make last-minute hotel arrangements to attend my sister's funeral. Management was extremely accommodating under the circumstances and we were very impressed with the beauty and history of our room. Staff was delightful, even offering to make us coffee late in the evening when we needed it to keep...

This hotel is kind of creepy. I was in a suite on the 5th floor in the old section of the hotel. It is a very old place, so it kind of looked like a scene from a 1920s murder mystery. If you think that's charming, then go for it! But, I did find a beetle in my bed. And...

The hotel is nice and clean. We stayed in a room next to the pool. The room was decent and kept very clean and it felt like they maintain things well. The pool area feels nice and open since the ceiling is 3 stories above the pool. There's a nice big parking lot for the hotel on the side which...

The hotel manager upgraded our room to one in the pool area. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, and at $68 per night it was a great value. They also have a nice pool, hot tub, and sauna. Stay here for a great value. Also there is a Mexican restaurant across the street with great food. I'd recommend...

Some of the reviews had us concerned about staying at the hotel, but there are not many other options in the town, so we took a chance. At first glance the hotel looks like an old, outdated building. Once we entered it was very different. The lobby is very nicely decorated and the rooms around and above the pool area...

We travel through Minnesota on our way up our yearly Canadian fishing trip. We have stayed at the Coates 4 or 5 times. The location is great, in that you are within walking distance to the downtown bars and restaurants. The price is great, at about $60 per night. They have an indoor pool, and sauna. The hotel is "dated",...
