Nestled by Lake Superior, Larsmont Cottages offers a tranquil retreat with amenities that include a full kitchen, sauna, and live music, all highly regarded by guests. Its location garners consistent praise for easy access to Duluth and Two Harbors, along with picturesque lakeside views. While the service and atmosphere are generally celebrated for their warmth and professionalism, there have been occasional mentions of service lapses. Room experiences vary with some concerns about cleanliness and maintenance, yet the coziness and views often compensate. Opinions on value are mixed, with some guests feeling the premium rates do not always meet expectations.

The property had a vacation home vibe to it. I really liked that. We had a room that was at the very end (I think) and it was still only a few minutes walk to the main building where there is a bar, restaurant with indoor dining as well as a patio overlooking the beautiful lake. There is also a store, pool, and a lounge area. I also like the Adirondack chairs that are situated facing the lake by the shore and all around the property + fire pits. It was so nice to just sit and relax looking at the vast Lake Superior. The service from the front desk, bar, and restaurant was all good. The property has an indoor pool and a hot tub outside so bring your swim wear. But if you forgot to bring a pair head over to their store and they have a few that you can choose from. I didn't notice this until we were checking out but had I known we would have definitely spent some time in the hot tub after a whole day of walking/hiking. If you get a small room, expect a small room. My husband and I travel more often than others and we were both shocked at how small the space was. Everything was within reach (like literally) because as you open the door, the end of the bed is there as you step in. Then turn 90 degrees and there's the door to the bathroom. There was barely any room for our luggage. The water pressure was really good though. It wasn't "rough/hard" so they must have some softener in their water system which was nice. No frizzy hair, yay! So overall it was a 4 out of 5 kind of stay. The room could have been bigger. Other than that, it was a nice stay. We would definitely come back and getting a suite next time!

Took advantage of a buy 2 nights get one free special during February 2020. This was our second trip to Larsmont, which is just a few miles from the city we live in. We arrived early, hoping for an early check-in (which we ALWAYS do). We were disappointed to find that was not an option and ended up driving up to the next town for a bit. When we came back, we were told we could use the facility but our room was still not ready. Again, we were disappointed as it was a Sunday in February and it just didn't seem like all the rooms would have been booked the previous night. Still, we decided to change to our suits and had a great time waiting in the outdoor hot tub, eventually getting into our room an hour early. The room was perfect - we could hear the waves at night and the fireplace was so relaxing. We went skiing up the shore both days and had a nice light meal at the bar on returning. Sad there was no bonfire due to too much melting snow but the sauna was always hot and the fireplace in the lobby was very nice. We managed to find plenty to do during the days hiking or skiing. A much-needed escape from reality for a few days. We will definitely return!

We stayed in a Lakeside suite, room was well cared for and maintained. Gorgeous view with balcony. Though certain restrictions were in place as well as some activities closed down, we enjoyed the free bikes, which were also well maintained and they provided a lock, helmets if needed.
Ledge rock grill offered a flavorful, tasty walleye dinner over yummy rice that was amazing!
The staff was accommodating, attentive, Hats off to Karen our waitress and one more young guy who worked the patio, and generously helped us find the perfect table with lake view. Delicious!

We recognize the resort is under new restrictions and training, during this cov19 and managing safety with maintaining a welcoming atmosphere is challenging.

Feedback, the front desk manager who was diligent in answering phone calls, could use assistance. No doubt they are working diligently to meet needs, the connecting piece gets a bit lost, encourage the gentleman working to look up and make eye contact, and give margin to answering questions. The check in and check out felt like an assembly line. When checking in, another customer was complaining, and unhappy, the exchange was unpleasant for all.

We were not aware until the end of our visit you could ask for “kits” popcorn, deck of cards,” kits “to make s’mores, and fire starting kits . The resort gave out letters and pamphlets with information, and the number front desk, which we called and often received no answer at times. . However, most likely they were busy.
Enjoyed our visit, encourage more connecting and help up front, to making guests feel welcomed rather than a duty. Observation, too much for one person to manage with the added guidelines.
Beautiful grounds, fire pits and “kits” to make fires available. Thank you to all the staff that works hard behind the scenes to maintain a beautiful setting like Larsmont.
We would definitely return, encourage more help up front during check in and check out times.
The grill was awesome!

We had decided it would be important to try and get away while maintaining social distance. We wanted to be in a place that had a kitchen so we could prepare our meals, and a view and a space to reflect on the greatness of the North Shore. We selected two places for two weekends away-spaces 14 days apart. We started small and less expensive and planned to end up larger and more expensive because of amenities and location. In a different review you can find out about our first experience, which was lovely. We have always loved Larsmont. Its footprint along Lake Superior is stunning and the units were always splendid. Imagine our disappointment with a grill that was unusable, a unit filled with bugs, linen that had spiders on them, and a sink that had a wet rag underneath in the cabinet. There can be no blame assigned for the fact that there were flies outside. There has to be some responsibility taken for the fact that unit itself was filled with flies in every space-evident from the moment we walked in. We are appreciative of Dane and his response on the first morning, but by then the situation was evident and the ensuing two days brought little change. We recognize how daunting it must be to get units ready for re-use. Sadly, at least in this was particular unit, the crew didn’t quite make it happen. It is unfortunate because the beauty and serenity of Larsmont is deeply appreciated. But in order to maintain that, standards of care must also be sustained. I hope, if we ever decide to venture back, we find the old Larsmont standard of care and not the pandemic induced standardwe experienced

We booked a stay at these cottages for a week in anticipation of a fun spot to explore the north woods, enjoy the indoor pool, and take in Lake Superior. Everything about the booking experience indicates that the cottages are pet free. The online information says pets are not allowed. We booked a reservation here because it is getting increasingly hard to find a cottage/cabin with a full kitchen that also does not allow pets. We thought Larsmont fit the bill. The first day into our stay, our asthmatic family member went into a full asthma attack and we had to leave before we had even been there for 24 hours.

It is not advertised, but Larsmont Cottages are all owned either fully or in part by a large number of private families. Those private families can bring their pets on the premises at any time. This is a big problem for asthmatics and allergy sufferers. If this information were more clearly communicated to the public, then these situations could be avoided ahead of time. Thankfully the family member is going to make a full recovery, however, this was a very scary experience for our family.

The property and location is stunning, so there isn't a bad thing to say about any of that, but not communicating this critical information to the many asthma and allergy sufferers is very shortsighted on behalf of this organization.

We spent two nights in one of the 1st floor guest rooms while on a recent trip along the north shore. We booked at short notice and this accommodation was all that was offered as being available.
We had two negative experiences.
The bedroom was rather cramped, as was the bathroom. The first morning we called to see whether we could upgrade to something more spacious for our second night, especially as we had noticed that not all of the accommodation was occupied. Of course we would pay any difference. We were told that we could not be moved as there was no-one to clean the room! I checked to make sure that I understood correctly, rooms are free but cannot be booked because they can't be cleaned. This was confirmed. I asked whether they could not employ more cleaners and was told rather curtly that they have been trying to recuit for months and are struggling to find staff. That was that, no flexibility, no apology. Zero customer care.
After a day out we returned at 16h30 to find that our room had not been touched. We enquired and were told that no "in room service" is provided. Nowhere was this communicated, not at check-in, nor on the website or posted in the room. When we asked why not, we were told because of Covid. The previous night we cooked a ready made meal in the microwave and therefore had a few dishes, and coffee mugs. There is no basin, just a cloth and diswashing liquid. Upon asking where guests are supposed to clean their dishes, we were told in the bathroom basin.
We were then informed that if we asked, someone could come and do what we needed to have done. Quite promptly a young lady arrived, she removed the dishes, emptied the bin and replenished the coffee upon our request.
(If you're only spending one night, this is irrelevant.)
We travel a lot and have never had an experience such as this.
On a positive note, the setting is beautiful, the bon fires were a cosy touch and the dinner we had in the restaurant was delicious.
Would we visit again, no.

We stayed for only one night at Larsmont, but I wish it could have been longer:) The cottages are so nice, and feel more like you are at home, than in a hotel. The bed was really comfy, everything was clean, and the windows are huge, and open super wide, so you can get some really nice air inside. There was a thunderstorm the night we stayed, and it was so relaxing to fall asleep to. The staff here is also very friendly and accommodating. Larsmont has an indoor, heated pool, and also a jacuzzi outside. The cottages are a short drive from Tettegouche State park, which is a lovely place to hike for the day, and check out some waterfalls.

We love this place! We’ve stayed about 5 times since they opened and it’s worth every penny. They are doing a marvelous job navigating this pandemic. They have very c,ear guidelines in place in terms of masks, spacing etc. We felt very comfortable in all out interactions with staff. Treat yourself to a Lakeside accommodation. You will not regret it. Lake Superior has a healing and peaceful energy. This place gets it right for sure. We’ll be back.

This property seems to be struggling with Expedia and Bookming.com as I was only able to book 2 (out of 4 requested) night on their own website to find out later that I was able to book 4 nights on Expedia and Bookings. After calling direct with the property to ask them if they could extend my reservation from 2 to 4 nights and a lot of patience from my end I managed to secure the booking. The stay was great although we had some issues with the key-cards that weren't working properly.

The accommodations are modern, well laid out, and very comfortable. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open during the week, butI didn’t care for the dinner menu anyway with Limited non-fish options. Great, quiet location and love the fire pit areas with Adirondack chairs.

You should be fine. Our two-bedroom had a gorgeous lake view though set back about 30 yards from the lake. As long as it say "lake-side", I think you're good. The office is very friendly about answering questions and I do believe they have a map they can send you.

Hi! We loved this resort and told friends and family about it. To answer your questions: 1) We did not get a chance to use their fitness facility. But you can definitely call the place and ask them about it. Very nice indoor pool. They have a jacuzzi outdoor too! 2) There are a lot to do if you enjoy walking and hiking. See Agape Bay, Black Sand Beach, Tettagouche, Temperance River, and many many other things. 3) As mentioned by another person here, the resort has generous outside space. They also have fire pits all around the resort, many just outside your room in the backyard facing the lake. 4) Grass for soccer - yes, not sure if they have a basketball court though. 5) There is a grocery store just a few miles from there. It's huge and would probably have everything you need. 6) You have to visit Mocha Moose Cafe! Cute outdoor seating area and very good coffee, at perfect temperature too! Hope you enjoy your vacation there. If you get a chance, eat at their restaurant. Food is delicious! And don't forget to ask for complimentary s'mores. Yummm.
