After much research for 'family places to stay in Hunder' on the internet I booked Olgok. It seemed to check all the boxes. But it is not what it appears online. First thing that you notice is, the location is on the far end of Hunder. Ok, at least they can mention that for first timers. Second, the rooms we checked in to did not have a decent window to look out inspite of the fact I had booked a Mountain View Room. Mr Ahmed's argument, when I enquired, was if you open the so called window and peer out, ignoring the wall in front, you can see the mountains. In response I said if you allow me I could show you Taj Mahal from Hunder. He banged the phone down. It does seemed that Olgok had made enough for the season to even extend 'let me see what can I do'. On the contrary he blamed it on #MakeMyTrip for the situation. anyways, food next; the menu is expensive and the food terrible. We ordered a plate of chicken masala along with other items. How wrong could chicken masala go. The cook as I learnt later, works with a catering outfit in Jalandhar. Despite this, the chicken was undercooked and tasteless. After my initial interaction with Mr Ahmed the owner, we didn't think he would even listen to this. Thereafter I only wanted to bide our time and leave that place as soon as possible. On second evening we ventured out for dinner. There is a small new place on the corner - Siachen Restaurant. I recommend that for food. Moderately priced. Overall the experience wasn't nice. I will not recommend this based on may experience.…
Olgok Guest House, has two categories of room as follows 1. View Room: Rooms are at 1st floor. These rooms are spacious with balcony. Amenities are better. Hot water is available 2. Standard room: Rooms are at ground floor. These rooms are small, no view, dirty linen, carpet. We booked our room through one of the travel site where only option for Standard room was available. We booked the same and quite disappointed with the facility. Rooms were shabby, water is licking from the commode at toilet We reached the hotel around 18:00 and asked for hot water. At that time, they informed hot water is available only from 6:00~10:00 a.m. Next day morning when we went to take shower, at that time we found that hot water is not coming. Staffs told us to take shower in one of the available view room. Without much option, we had to go for that one. Staffs are energetic but not trained enough. Overall it seems overpriced with respect to quality. Next day we find much better room in nearby hotel with almost same cost. If you can book view room, you can go for it. Otherwise, avoid this hotel if you are travelling with family…
Don't expect it to be a typical hotel. It's more like a homestay and was pretty comfortable. Staff was also good and food served was also reasonably good and economical. Not much choices is anyway available at hunder but some good properties are coming up. So you may look for better options.
This place is really very beautiful and peaceful. The apple trees and beautiful flowers makes this place even more beautiful. Rooms were very spacious and clean. All basic amenities were provided. There was 24hrs hot water supply. Food was very tasty. Place was also easy to find. The owner and hotel staff were really helpful and welcoming in nature. Also the mountain view from was mesmerising.
Olgok Guest House is a beautiful home stay property in Hunder, Nubra Valley. We really had an amazing time as our stay was really comfortable and relaxing. Mr Zahoor Ahmed & the whole staff were really cooperative and helpful during our entire stay. Also they were kind enough to offer apples to us every morning from their garden. We loved the food. It was really a bliss to get homely cooked fresh dinner after the long tiring days. Kudos to the chef! The rooms were big and spacious. Thank you Olgok Gues House for hosting us. Would love to come visit again on next trip to Ladakh :)
The staff was least interested in getting us checked in. The rooms were below average and hot water in the bathrooms was at a premium (only in the mornings). The food was below average and the linen in the beds didnt seem to have been changed in a long time and smelled. Another guest requested that his sheets be changed since he'd been staying since 5 days....but the staff told him he could stay for another 2-3 before a wash was needed. Avoid this place if you can.
I stayed for a couple of nights at Olgok Guest House. I can vouch that it is the best value for money stay in Hunder. In fact the ambience is much better than many other expensive resorts. One can actually blend with the local life and culture. There is a lovely kitchen garden from where fresh vegetables and spices are made available to the restaurant. The food is great and very reasonably priced. The owner resides within the compound and is very cheerful and eager to help. The lush greenery all around, soothing sound of fresh water streams and chirping of birds make the stay blissful. Opt for the first floor rooms for a better view.
Very very friendly and extremely nice and comfortable place.owner is a gem of a person.must stay here.Made our stay a blessing during covid extremity situation.Such a homely and safety environment is commendable.
Excellent place. Staff and Owners are very much hospitable. Had a great time there. I was with family with a 3 year old kid and found the place safe n sound. Highly recommended. Moreover the place is situated in the heart of the Hunder Valley which adds to it charisma.
Very friendly and hospitable hosts and staff. Very clean room. They offered two double beds in a room which was good as we were a family of three. Excellent location. The ability to be able to do star gazing from their balcony was a surprise and bonus. The room is big and the common area outside the room gives a feeling of openness. The vegetable and fruit garden was beautiful. Was a bit overpriced perhaps, but we pretty much enjoyed everything at the guest house. Zaheer's hospitality and warmth makes up for any shortcomings one may experience, if at all.
