Located on the quiet side of the Brainerd Lakes area, this family-run resort is the oldest continually owned family resort in the state of Minnesota. The Ruttger family has been welcoming guests to the shores of Bay Lake for 120 years. The property is open between April and November.
We had many family members descend on Ruttger’s for a reunion. Being able to stay on cabins as a family allowed each of us to do things at our own pace. With ages from 5 to 92 everyone found the location perfect. Some swam, some skied, some relaxed, and others played shuffleboard.. but we all played bingo! To be honest, we went to Ruttger’s every summer since I was born. But we had not been back for nearly 45 years. It was so fun to share it with my family now. I am hoping we can do this every year and start a new tradition! Thank you Ruttger’s!
Friendly staff = check Clean, cozy accommodations = check Good, hearty meals = check Tempting desserts = check Beautiful setting with fall colors = check Consistent, reliable value = check This is Ruttgers' 120 anniversary. Still a great place for a getaway. Too cold and rainy to do much outdoors (some early snow on the ground) and the golf course was closed because of the 6" of rain lately, but we managed to have a nice relaxing time anyhow. We took the coldest pontoon ride of our lives - our guide was cheerful and informative. (He found a direct route back to lessen wind burn.) Lots of places to sit, read our books and chat, and of course the fire was blazing in the fireplace in the lodge. We will be back.
I come here for a 3 day conference every year and I have never stayed at a place where all of the employees are nice and a lot of them are the same ones every year, which tells me they love to work here. They are so friendly a so so nice. I love coming here and every room I have had over the years have been great with wonderful views. The Ruttger family knows what hospitality is all about and knows what true customer service is as well.

Your kind words warm our hearts. We are truly blessed to have a team that loves to go above and beyond for our guests. Having a group of great people like you makes it pretty easy to be friendly. See you next time.
Played golf on the championship golf course. New name is Jack's 18. We have played there on and off for the last 20 years. We always enjoy the course and it was in good shape at the end of Sept. the staff in the pro shop are always helpful and pleasant. Had a good round and enjoyed our time.
My wife and I stayed in the Bay Lake Villas with a golf and meal package. The Villa was an amazing one bedroom condo type villa with a Jacuzzi bath (did not use), large shower, complete kitchen, living room with large flat screen TV and a fireplace. Our stay was 2 nights which we golfed Jacks 18 both days. Golf was very challenging especially when I played the blue tees but I would recommend the blues just because of the view from some of the tee boxes was breathtaking. The food was top notch with steaks or seafood for dinner and a large breakfast buffet. The wait-staff were mostly from Poland and very enjoyable to talk to. The fall golf package was a great deal and since it was after labor day there was not a lot of activity so it is very relaxing. Hopefully we will be able to make it back in the near future.
