This hotel is so nicely situated, the staff is so friendly, the surroundings are superb, and it’s an absolute must to visit. Just to relax for a few days, swim, do some walks and enjoy the spectacular views. I would always recommend this place for anyone who needs good Experience.

We are frequent travelers and we travel all year around to new places in Sri Lanka. We were stunned by the images of Windloft Retreat and decided to visit there, hoping for a relaxing getaway. First off, the property is out of nowhere, more than 20kms from Kandy. We decided to keep that obvious fact aside and visit, hoping that...

Perched on a hilltop at an elevation of about 1000 metres, the property offers a superb view of the surrounding hills and valleys. The approach road is admittedly rather rough, but in reality no worse than the average upcountry estate road.. The December weather was cool and (very) windy. But great for hiking up into the tea and pine plantations.It...

The road uphill is a disaster. It was a risk and very dangerous, with a bumpy road with rocks and stones, and so narrow. Specially terrible road to drive at night. However we went there after a pathetic ride, but staff did not welcome us. And they said they have no food. At least no welcome drink. No apologize for...

To begin with the contact number on the Web is useless. Do not go by the information provided there. They do not answer calls. The road (if you can call it that) that you have to take up to the place is in an extremely horrible condition. Going by car would be a huge mistake. Secondly the staff was not...

I was booked this place as a gift for my best friend. Me and few friends escort them to the windloft and we were very excited from the beginning since road is too narrow. When I reached there, its remind me the quote that saying "difficult roads often lead to beautiful destination". Stunning location with amazing views from all over...

My husband and I visit Windloft about twice a year since 2 years ago and in one year we went thrice! We sincerely love the place and its location, view and large clean rooms. The air is so crisp and they grow their own veggies, you can have a glass of fresh cows milk in the morning and a walk...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Windloft. Imagine a tranquil valley with stunning panoramic mountain views clad in mist, overlooking the bustling market town of Deltota, with the mesmerizing effect of mountains marching in on you, a place 1,000 meters above sea level, on a mountain side with 3600 degrees of unobstructed view, set high up in the Great Valley right opposite to where the intrepid Scottish planter James Taylor founded the first tea plantation estate of the then colonial Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in 1867. Windloft is a great location to relax with the wind whispering across the valley to a tune of its own while being in close proximity to Kandy, the last Royal capital of Sri Lanka where a myriad of cultural activities of Sri Lanka are centered. The most important is the "Asela Perehara" held in July-August each year in reverence of the Sacred Tooth relic of Lord Buddha. One of the world's greatest festivals, it offers ten nights of dancers, drummers, elephants and clowns in traditional costumes parading along the streets of Kandy just a few feet away from the spectators in their seats. Deltota town today is a lively commercial centre by day. By night fall, the clean crisp highland air makes it a great vantage point to observe the jeweled necklace of the road snaking its way along the valley and the "Milky Way" up in the heavens visible as you have never seen before. deltota town is still a sleepy hamlet where one can retreat to and relax with the wind whispering across the valley to a tune of its own. The mountain ranges in every direction you look, by night fall, the clean crisp air of high altitude makes it a great vantage point to observe the jeweled necklace of the road snaking its way along the mountain and the deltota Hamlet along with the "Milkyway" upon the heavens visible like you have never seen before. ... more   less
